my only afterthoughts of this game is if this one is better or worse than that prime time gem against the Matt Ryan colts a few years back.

This one was definitely one of the top turd games in recent history. Every time I think “wow this game was terrible to watch”, the Broncos come at me with a new level of low.
Yep was there live and the first half especially was very hard to watch.
One thing I will say Pat Surtain is a treat to watch. Just focusing on him vs his opponent and how he shuts it down is amazing. Best corner in the league right now.

Are people crazy? The Broncos are in a full rebuild. They have a 50 million dollar dead cap hit while missing a ton of 1st round picks the past few seasons. Most had them finishing bottom 3. We're starting 1 first round pick on D with a rookie QB that has zero weapons.

It was ugly as shit but given how tough the schedule was to start the season the fact that were 2-2 is better than even the most optimistic Bronco fan would have hoped for.
Yes, yes, I know.

I still have very little faith that there’s a plan in place here. And even if I were to buy into that, I don’t have to like that game. Nor do I have to like the fact that Payton has made at least one mind-numbingly dumb decision every single game.

The Mutombo news is sad... way too young.
Geez I had no idea he was even sick.

Insanely brilliant man, knew something like 7 languages or something like that. Primarily responsible (yes, IMO more so than LaPhonso) for the greatest moment in Nuggets franchise history up until they won the whole thing in 2023. At the time I did not agree with them putting his number in the rafters but now I'm glad they did.

Indeed. That was simply garbage.

I believe there were as many penalties as points in that game. Just a crap product put out by the NFL.

Actor Jon Amos died. He played RB at Colorado State and was at training camp with the Broncos.
Oh man!

I remember watching him on Good Times until they killed his character off. That actually shocked the heck out of me when they did it. He was excellent as the baddie in Die Hard 2 as well.

My old man was only at CSU for a year but he was a freshman when Amos was a senior. He's never given me details of their interactions but has always spoken glowingly of the man.

How far off are the Rockies from a Detroit Tigers style run?

I'd say by more than a fair bit. Starting pitching isn't good enough or durable enough, bullpen is still an absolute shambles, and while there are emerging stars in the lineup I still don't think it's anywhere near good enough. And I don't believe for a second Monfort will front the resources needed to get the team over the top. It'll just be another cycle where stars leave and there's no core, no identity, and no direction.

I am kinda curious as to what happens to Bud Black now. I don't think this mess is his fault though.

Even the f***ing Pittsburgh Pirates somehow stumbled into the best young pitcher in baseball, a guy who pitched in college right in the Rockies backyard.

While they still have a long way to go, I'll say this is the best farm system they have had in a long time. Dollander is the best pitching prospect they have had since Ubaldo. And they have the nucleus of a young position player core with Tovar, Doyle and Condon. The few times the team has been good, it's beause they have multiple star bats with just enough pitching. I think they will have that in a couple years.

I still think the Man In Charge will find a way to trip it up. They might end up being "Rocktober" worthy here and there but that'll be it.

Better hope would be the Royals who went from 100+ losses to the playoffs.

Just need Tovar to turn into Bobby Witt Jr. and need a team in the division to turn into the 2024 White Sox.

Might have the best outfield prospects in the league too.

Dollander, Sullivan and Palmquist will all be up starting games next year. Feltner is the best pitcher in the rotation. They finally have some young talent to look forward to, need the MLB to rig the lottery so we can get the youngest Holliday.

Von Miller has been suspended.

We all know he'll be brought back in front of the fans and his name will be placed in the Ring of Fame, and everyone will cheer, but I hope this never happens. We should not celebrate people like this, certainly not when repeated instances of violence and vulgar behavior toward women continue to dog him. Unfortunately it will happen and the fanbase as a whole will just...turn a blind eye to it.

It's a major thing for sports in general to ignore horrible treatment of women.

There are like 3 statues of Kobe outside the Lakers arena and he's a straight up rapist. And even other teams still deify the guy.

Wilt was accused of rape by Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (they had been close friends in the 70s) and the NBA named an award after him right after the accusation came out.

Karl Malone is a literal child molester and he was all over the place when the ASG was in SLC, being treated like everybody's favorite uncle.

MMA is the worst of them all, though. The worse of a human being you are the more you're pushed by the UFC (see: Jon Jones, Sean Strickland, Conor McNuggets).

All I got from this is that a statue of Nuke is going up.

I have no positive feelings about Nichushkin but so far his activities seem to be hookers and infidelity. Not good, but unless he was sleeping with that girl while she was too wasted to consent I'm not going to lump him in with full on rapists or woman beaters yet. Still won't forgive him for what he did to the team (twice) but there's a difference between being an asshole and being an irredeemable monster.

I’m clearly making a joke there.

How much people just don’t care what stars do, not matter how vile, is often baffling.

Mike Tyson has more sexual abuse accusations (including a rape conviction, multiple more rape accusers, and multiple sexual battery convictions and settlements) than he has fingers and he's still beloved. And that's not even mentioning his innumerable instances of domestic abuse and just beating up random dudes in public.
