Not sure how I feel on this trade. Santos was good in pen last year

Unless Sox dont think he will replicate it this move is ? though

Berroa seems like he has potential though

Why would Diamondbacks give up a what looks like solid and promising RF in Fletcher?

Safe to assume he will be starting RF for Sox this coming year

I actually like the Mariners deal more than the D-Backs one. They sold high on Santos and Santos had an elbow issue later in the season and was shut down so alot of risk there. Plus supposedly character concerns (although who knows how true those rumors are).

I liked Mena alot and giving up a promising 21 year old arm with great breaking stuff (although his fastball isn't fast and lacks good spin) for a 26 year old midget with average speed (although great instincts) and not much power isn't exactly an endorsement from me.

But I will say not seeing Gavin Sheets in RF ever again (or at least he shouldn't ever be) for a plus defensive OF is a massive win.

Same reason the Orioles gave up a promising SS in Joey Ortiz for Cobrin Burnes. Both Ortiz and Fletcher where blocked in their old organization. Fletcher was not going to displace Gurriel (who the DBacks just extended), Thomas or Carroll in the OF and the DBacks just sign Joc Pedersen to DH.

I like both deals. It's about time our GM is selling high on relievers instead of buying high, as they've done over the last several years.

You could probably be a pretty good GM just by doing the exact opposite of what the previous White Sox GM did. They have been that bad.

Royals sign Bobby Witt Jr to a 11 year $288 million dollar extension. Opt out after 7 years. Also 3 option years to bring the total to $377 million.

I know he's very good and very young, but that is a huge commitment for a guy with two MLB seasons under his belt

SS of his talent don't come along often, and Royals need a face of franchise, so it makes plenty of sense.

Sure, there is risk but locking up a player like that is important for a small market team

5 years $125 extension

Watching the Bulls for first time in a while again. Again, this is just a better team without Lavine. His injury sucks, but I think the Bulls need to move on from him.

Took my son to his first live hockey game, an SPHL neutral site game in Bloomington. Must be some bad blood between Peoria and the Quad Cities, as there was a fight three seconds into the first period, so my wife and I were rolling as my son was shocked.

It's both. They spend in waves, then get cheap in waves. But one thing they wont do is commit to a long-term deal - which only leaves the 'spend stupid' option in many cases. When they went through those shenanigans where they pretended to be interested in signing Manny Machado - they were never going to sign Manny. That's why they loaded their offer with incentives they knew he wouldn't agree to.

I think it goes back to Reinsdorf paying Julio Cruz forever and him being afraid of repeating that mistake. He wants to retain the ability to reset the payroll within a couple years at all times.

I don't disagree.

The manny pursuit really pissed me off. “We” deserve a place at the table and finish $50-$75 million away from the actual offer cash wise.
