Sox have signed their top 11 picks plus their 20th pick from the MLB 2022 Draft....Sox spent $250,400 more than their allotted signing pool amount so have to pay $187,800 in a tax ....Since they used up only 3.8% in excess of their allotment and the first level of penalty tax at75% of the excess amount is upto 5% excess ,they could I think still use up the remaining 1.02% of their original pool allotment which is a bit over $69,000 to sign another couple of picks (from the unsigned pick#12 through #19) abd still only pay tge 1st level of penalty taxation 75% of tgat.
Whether they do go right to tge limit of this 1st level and sign a couple more or are finished sign pucks,I do not know...The signing deadline fron draft ends at 3pm EDT today I believe so still just over an hour to go,with the exception that
thisechigh school or junior college draftees who still have college eligibility have until just beforecthec20233 draft to sign with their draftingvteam..I am notcsurevifvthatvincurrs more penalties if used or is taken off next draft pool allotment if they do sign such draftees with college eligibility later.
