49ers fans stayed 49ers fans. Raiders fans are still Raiders fans. No one accepts the Chargers.
Having no team here for a generation meant younger fans just gravitated to other teams, probably ones that were frequently winning. I had no issues that there wasn’t a team in LA (or OC). Given the draconian TV blackout rules, we usually didn’t get to see home games anyway when there were teams here.
But the league got what they wanted, using LA as a bargaining chip for any team across the league that wanted a city to pay for their stadiums. And then have the Lambs leave SL for greener pastures in LA.
The Chargers’ situation was a joke. Never should have left SD and their fans. At the least, shouldn’t have moved any farther north that Orange County, but they weren’t going to give the team a stadium either.

The Chargers actually have a pretty large fanbase in Orange County (atleast South OC where I am from). I would say that it is about on par with the Rams fanbase, although divided more on age, under-40 more Chargers, over-40 more Rams. But the reality is (and not that I agree), but a lot of people from that area just don't like to go to LA. The Chargers unfortunately made the same mistake the Clippers made two decades before, had the Chargers been able to get a stadium (they would have had to bend a bit) they could have really built an identity as OC's NFL team, but instead chose to chase the $$ in LA in exchange for being irrelevant in their own market. OC has 3m people and they still would have been able to draw from atleast the SD fans in North County. Moving the team from SD to LA not only made the drive much longer, but it was kind of a kick in the balls it was to a geographic rival in LA.

Other than the large amounts of money they all make I feel sorry for the Clippers and Chargers players.

BTW, slightly off topic, but if the Kings ever moved, would people still support the team? I was a Rams fan growing up and when they left when I was 13 they immediately became my most hated team for about 2-3 years then they were indifferent to me. I think now as an adult it wouldn't matter if the Kings moved, they'd still be my #1 pro sports team, even if they played in Timbuktu. I've also been away from SoCal most of my adult life so maybe my view is different than people who regularly go to games. Curious to know though.

Tough question my friend. I did the same thing with the Rams. I became a 49er fan, because f*** them.
I really don't know how I would react. I don't see myself ever becoming a Ducks fan though.

Agree about Chargers and the OC. I think many in San Diego, while still mad, would embrace the Chargers somewhat (or fully) if they were in South OC like Irvine/Tustin area. But them going to LA -- that's blasphemy for many SD fans. With both Chargers/Rams in Sofi, OC is open and thus the split. IF the Chargers came to OC, they would own that market.

Personally, i was a HUGE Ram fan as a kid growing up in the 70s/80s. When they left for StL, my Ram fandom and NFL fandom ended right then & there. Was easy to do because of the lady whose name we do not speak in my household. I was the rare super sports fan who could not care less about the NFL for like 20+ years. But once Kroenke bought that land, i knew it was on. I was back in the NFL and the Rams 100%. Got all my Rams gear out of storage about 7-8 years ago.

Interesting question. I'm honestly not sure - my inclination would be 'No,' but I guess it kinda' depends on how invested in the team I would be at the time they'd move and where they'd move to (i.e., could I go see them play once or twice a year, or is their theoretical new location "inaccessible" to me?). Like a lot of us, I can't see myself volitionally switching allegiances to the Ducks (and I really did have a "great" chance to switch back in the late-90s when I lived in Colorado for a spell; ironically, that experience made me despise the Avs even more), but if my young son got really into the Ducks for some strange reason, I suppose I might "tag along" with him. More likely, I'd probably become a casual, general NHL fan at that point...

I stopped supporting the Rams after they left. Hell, I didn't even want them to come back as I preferred an expansion team. Although I root for them to win now, it's not nearly as important as it is to me for the other local teams I root for. I was hardcore Rams fan prior to dumbass Georgia Frontiere taking the money and running when she was a penny pincher here, but I'm not sure when or if I'll ever get to that point again as a fan.

as a san diego guy, my beef isn't with the team as it's entirely with dean spanos. won't cheer for that team for another day until he's relieved of duty, no matter where they're located. same story though, NFL is dead to me til then

The Rams are in trouble.

It's a real shame, he was looking really good out there.

I thought there was this big rivalry between LA and the Bay Area. It boggles the mind to me how a person who likes LA sports otherwise could be a Niners fan.

That being said, because of the suckiness of the Bears since the 90s, there is a large contingent of under 40 year old fans in Chicago who like the Packers but are otherwise Chicago fans. I guess it's kind of like that.

I went to HS with the Giambi bros. Jeremy was my classmate and a cool guy. I'll never forget the time I intercepted a pass from him at football practice our freshman year. He was pissed at me, heh.
A mutual friend, I spoke with last night, said he was struck in the head with a baseball a few months ago. He had surgery that didn't go well. It was shocking and sad to hear the news, RIP Jeremy.

This is not news. The LADA doesn't charge anyone of a crime these days.
There wasn't enough evidence and a ton of testimony was coming out against the accuser. I'm not surprised this ended up being a complete nothing burger. I hope Trevor sues the league.
