Absolutely no way the Kings are tanking, not when Doughty has that giant contract and is still in his prime. Otherwise, he would be demanding a trade.

To respond to @SFKingshomer , so what you're saying is. NHL LA is the complete opposite of NBA LA when it comes to free agency? Why is that, though? It's not a black and white thing, is it?

I dont think it's THAT cut and dry, but history shows it to be true.

NBA single players have more impact on the game AND on marketing, and Lakers (and now Clippers) have been seen as a desirable destination for decades. You can basically quick rebuild in the NBA by throwing money and or picks at your problems. Not to mention most of the NBA is born in the USA, and thus LA is closer to home and a 'big city bit market' that people enjoy.

Contrast that with the NHL. One player doesn't make THAT much of an impact, hell the NBA is throwing four first round picks around like candy while guys around here are hanging onto even late 1sts like their souls. They definitely hardly affect the gate, which was the original argument (why would AEG be okay with not spending money to be competitive etc). The west coast as a whole has had a damn near impossible time straight signing UFAs--Sj was smart to an extent with Karlsson by trading for him first and letting him fall in love with the area first and also got the competitive advantage of an 8 year deal to make it work. Throwing money and or picks at your problems in the NHL has the effect of actually sabotaging you in various ways. And finally, in a cold-weather sport where a ton of the league is from cold weather climates or Europe, the East Coast and cold weather climates are both closer to home far east of here.

But the teams in another sport--that's always been more popular than hockey--are going to be good so the Kings need to match them!!!

Shit...The Lakers were more important than the Kings when the Cups were being won. This entire line of thinking is silly. As a matter of fact, the Cups grabbed fans that will stick though thick and thin just like the Kings had prior to the Cup wins. There are more Kings fans now than 2011. There are a lot that aren't going anywhere. Regardless, AEG enjoyed pretty good sales numbers for a team that missed the playoffs seven straight seasons.

The reason for the 2 year deal is Kawhi will be a 10 year player, so he will be eligible for the 35% max in that off-season.

Yes, I heard about the super max for Kawhi which is why he did the 2-year deal.

I was referring to the Lakers as it was mentioned by someone they had most of their roster up in 2-years time which happens to be the same time Giannis and a bunch of other top end guys are set to become FA's.

Ok, as someone who grew up in Arizona where baseball was practically a religion, this has to be the lamest thing I have ever seen.

Atlantic League batter steals first base for first time in pro baseball history

This along with starting a runner at 2nd base in extra innings are 2 of the dumbest ideas they are trying to implement. Do not change stuff that is not broken.

On a side note, 2 more bellibombs tonight, now leading the majors with 33. What a season for the kid.

He said he was humbled by the failures in his sophomore season, especially being benched against lefties in the World Series. His hard work is paying off.

Then Kenley gonna Kenley.

You want to know whats really funny...
Everyone praises Freidman as a genius but what exactly has he ever built that won the WS??
This team has failed to address the bullpen since the days of Gagne, Dreifort and Shuey all left.. Kenley is Broxton reincarnated and the FO has had plenty of oppportunities to rememdy this and has failed because they still have a small market mentality..

Also, Logan White was/is the reason we have Seager, Bellinger, Verdudo, Kershaw, Jansen, Ryu, Pederson..etc

Honestly his biggest mistake was keeping Roberts as manager. Most bullpens around the league suck, though with the emergence of beaty, smith etc the Dodgers have a ton of assets to get the arms they need.

I don't know what's going on with Jansen, though in his last outting he said he should have left the game after taking that ball off his foot which makes me wonder how bad it was or if he was just looking for an excuse for why he only threw cutters and couldn't put them anywhere effective.

BUT, I will say the Dodgers fielding has taken a turn for the worse. They were the best in baseball into June and now they're quickly sliding in the errors. This is not good. They can't be flubbing the ball going into October. Plenty of time to correct it, but it's worrying. The bats at least don't seem to have cooled off and I've had less instances of crying "RISP!"

Of course it's a lot to complain about for a team that's almost 30 games over .500. lol

Dodgers strike out at the trade deadline. So disappointing that they feel the need to keep the 500 prospects they have no room for.

As we've grown accustomed to over the past few years with the relief pitching, and Jansen, we always hope for the best and also prepare for the worst. I have an inkling if we look back at what failed the Dodgers in 2019, it'll be a repeat of exactly what we said about them in 2018 and 2017.

Dodgers only have one pitcher that can go long in a game right now and that's Ryu. Astros have 3. That's a problem in a playoff series.

Verlander : 6.57 innings per start
Greinke: 6.34 innings per start
Cole: 6.23 innings per start

Ryu: 6.7 innnings per start
Kershaw: 6.5 innings per start
Buehler: 6.1 innings per start

Note: in my calculation I removed the game in which Ryu pitched 1.2 innings and left with the groin strain as that is more relevant to a durability question than ability to go long in a game. With that game Ryu's average is 6.4.

People may forget, but the back of the bullpen was not a soft spot in 2017. Jansen was having one of his best years, Morrow was throwing 100 mph and was nearly unhittable, and Maeda was dominant too.

What cost them in 2017 was Yu Darvish twice blowing up in the World Series because he was tipping his pitches.

It’s hard to pin 2018 on any one thing. The Red Sox were flat out unstoppable.

Notably, making huge July trades in 2017 and 2018 didn’t guarantee anything.

While Jansen is fallible this year and Kelly got off to a terrible start (this isn’t talked about much, but he’s been pretty dominant the last 2 months), the depth of the bullpen should be solid talent-wise.
