Verlander : 6.57 innings per start
Greinke: 6.34 innings per start
Cole: 6.23 innings per start

Ryu: 6.7 innnings per start
Kershaw: 6.5 innings per start
Buehler: 6.1 innings per start

Note: in my calculation I removed the game in which Ryu pitched 1.2 innings and left with the groin strain as that is more relevant to a durability question than ability to go long in a game. With that game Ryu's average is 6.4.

Kershaw literally has the longest active streak right now of pitching 6+ innings.

That's good to know. Not sure why it felt like they couldn't stay in long.

Innings per start are down league wide, just the way the game is trending. Teams really don't want their guys out there for the 3rd time through the lineup (also a reason for the whole opener strategy). We're used to seeing Kershaw try and get through 8 every night, couple seasons ago he'd be noticeably annoyed at not being sent out to pitch the 7th but not so much any more. Because of that it makes it easy not to realize how impressive it is that he's gone 6+ in every start.

Probably because we’re so used to his career where it was pretty common to look up and see him pitch into the 7th and 8th.

As KF said, he’s merely very good now instead of a superstar. We’ve been pretty spoiled with him over the years that even him being #2 starter at the worst can seem disappointing sometimes.

People may forget, but the back of the bullpen was not a soft spot in 2017. Jansen was having one of his best years, Morrow was throwing 100 mph and was nearly unhittable, and Maeda was dominant too.

What cost them in 2017 was Yu Darvish twice blowing up in the World Series because he was tipping his pitches.

It’s hard to pin 2018 on any one thing. The Red Sox were flat out unstoppable.
Re: 2017, the problem was they couldn't really rely on anybody else in the bullpen. Or I guess the real problem was that Roberts was going to the pen too early/often.
By the end of October Morrow/Jansen were pitching just about every game and were pretty bad in the world series.

It stand behind the Dodgers FO this TDL.. they could afford to trade a Lux or May for a one inning guy..
Lux is next in line with Belly, Seager and Verdugo.. he's that good.. and May is looking like Gerrit Cole..
did we need a bullpen arm, well not really.. the FO finally got their heads outta their asses and realized they could call up flame throwers..
Jansen
Gonsolin
Urias
May
Kelly
Baez
Kolarek
Mitchell could help as could Santana or Ferguson.. There are option.. oh and Maeda

True enough. haha Kershaw has been doing really well lately which is a good sign and he hasn't been on and off the DL. *knock on wood*

Exciting MLB season...one pennant race out of six divisions.

No one is talking about the Twins. They seem like they are plowing through the competition in the AL.

Yeah that’s true. Morrow pitched almost every game that playoffs I believe.

He was good. Problem is they have yet to replace him and unless May is able to step up or another prospect it's the same problem yet again. Friedman just refuses to to pony up for a star reliever.

At least every positions backup has a backup now though.

I'm old enough to remember watching guys like Don Sutton and others throw 9 innings on a regular basis. Most of the top guys now are pulled at 7. Maybe that's why games seem longer, so many pitching changes over the final 3 innings.

I went to an A's vs Angels doubleheader a long time ago. I saw Tommy John go 12 innings for the Angels and allow only 1 run. The next game I think the A's scored 5 in the first and the Angels came up and scored I think it was 6 runs in the bottom of the first. That game ended up something like 16-13. We were at Angel Stadium for around 8 hours. Today, a doubleheader like that probably would last 12 hours.

It's going to take a few years for Chip Kelly to get things turned around. Glad to see Oregon playing well against Auburn thus far. Pac-12 needs this game.
Yeah, it’s going to be a 3 year turnaround so any positives from the youngster is what really matter..

Well, Auburn has Bo. Bo Nix true freshman QB, ice water in his veins, throws the winning TD pass with 9 seconds remaining in the game.

Then Lee Corso comes in and says, "Not so fast!", but Hebert throws the Hail Mary about 5 yards beyond the end line of the end zone. Oregon chokes away an important win for the Pac-12.

The Astros are too good for the AL West. It's like everyone else is playing their AAA team against them. The Angels look like a double A team most nights.

There are some games that feel 12 hours long with all the mound visits and pitching changes.

As we've grown accustomed to over the past few years with the relief pitching, and Jansen, we always hope for the best and also prepare for the worst. I have an inkling if we look back at what failed the Dodgers in 2019, it'll be a repeat of exactly what we said about them in 2018 and 2017.
That Roberts, for reasons no one can explain, started putting Jansen in before the 9th in the playoffs when he had never done so at any point in his career?

I disagree, I think Chip will prove to be a colossal failure for the Bruins. I expect his time at UCLA to go alot like Rich Rod's at Arizona.

For one he left the college game because he supposedly hated recruiting, and judging with UCLA's first two recruiting classes it doesn't seem like there was much of an effort into recruiting. With the state of the USC program and the amount of talent in southern CA it's almost unbelievable how bad their recruiting has been.

And on the field, many teams are running the same offense or running major elements of it. Chip and Rich Rodriguez used to have an advantage because teams weren't built to stop that offense, now everyone is more prepared for it.
