Most runs in baseball, 50 more than Detroit....

The A's also traded OF who drove in 67 of those runs , Led team in hits , 2nd in doubles and 3rd in HR's

A's are weaker team offensively now without him and the move to get Lester was responded to by Tigers

I would take Tigers over A's in 7 game series at this point without hesitation

Tigers have great 1-4 and a better lineup

The Cubs were intrigued with a switch-hitting catcher doing well at Class A that they were able to get. They liked him enough go kick in a little cash, too.

When playoffs comes around they have a 1-4 that can go deep and Porcello can move into bullpen to help in that regard

A's have a good staff but that lineup just isn't that good

It's better than the Tigers' lineup.

Kinsler, Cabrera, Martinez, and whatever JD Martinez turns out to do through the season.

The A's traded, honestly, one of their middling hitters. Cespedes is a good player, but nothing that's exceptional. Moss, the Norris/Vogt platoon, Jaso and Donaldson are more important to that lineup.

And it's not necessarily true that the A's are done. They could still make some moves in August.

A's have a great staff and a great lineup. So do the Tigers. Baseball is a game of consistency. Every team wins a third of its games, and every team loses a third. Winning a seven game series doesn't make a team "better". It just makes them better that week.

Billy Beane says as much if you read Money Ball and don't just judge what it is off of the movie.

Edit: I think they're the two best teams in baseball, with Baltimore and St. Louis right behind them.

Yeah, Beane took minimal credit for the pitching staff in the book. He's obviously learned from it though. 3 big game pitchers on that staff IMO; Lester, Gray, and Samardzija.

I've watched more soccer this summer than I think my entire life before combined. Seems like there is always a game on this summer, and at night when I am sitting back, relaxing, and watching some TV.

Keep it going. The real thing is less than 3 weeks away, and the games are on right when you get up on the weekend so they never interfere with anything :)

Since when is Samardzija a big game pitcher?

When he wanted to get traded this season. Yeah, it's pending on the playoffs, but I feel really good about it; and I love the trade, you see that throw Russell made from the outfield grass??? Shark is a really ****ing good pitcher with the ability to dominate with his power. I usually watch maybe 3-4 games and the last half of the series. This time I wanna watch all of the Oakland games. They have a squad now.

Samardzija is a pretty good pitcher. That's about it

What do you guys think about Arrieta and Castro for Stanton. I can't decide who it is better for. It feels like an unbeatable offer for a player everyone will be after. The cost control of Jake and Starlin's team friendly contract make a lot of sense for Miami.

As a Cubs fan I'd be all over it. I think Arrieta comes back down to earth and settles as a solid #3-4 guy at best, and Castro while a top ten SS is a far cry from Stanton who is a top 5 OF.

I think Arrieta will keep it up as long as he is healthy. That's my question with him.
