Who cares. I don't even sing this silly song any more anyways. Patriotism is dumb as shit.
Do yourself and all of us a favour and move somewhere else then please. Maybe one of those tribal African countries that are always at war with each other preferably.

Honestly they should take the anthems out of hockey. Drop the puck sooner.
And don't even have warmups. We could save so much more of our precious time. Make the intermissions 5 minutes. Eliminate post game interviews and the 3 stars.

I know you're being sarcastic but I actually agree with the bolded. "Well uh, we executed our game plan and obviously we won the game"

A country is its people, not the flag or the anthem.

Have any of you Edmontonians been paying attention to the new zoning bylaw renewal in the city?

Basically the city is proposing that most lots should be open to infill for multi family residential, small apartment buildings and mix use without having to get approval from the city. Another example of government creating a situation ripe for abuse. Will be so nice as a developer to be able to buy a run down bungalow for 300k , tear it down and build 4 houses and sell them for 350k or buy a couple adjoining lots and put a 3 storey apartment building with a dozen or so units at 200k each. All without having to get approval or worry about what the neighbors think.

Not to mention it’s totally cart before the horse. The city can already barely keep up with infrastructure but they want to just start piling more people on top of eachother… I’m sure it will be fine though.

If you want to increase density do it downtown where people have accepted denser living, build bigger, taller high rises to your hearts content. People move to the suburbs because they don’t want density. Even now when I’m back in Edmonton it blows my mind how close together they’re building houses. Basically prey your neighbor isn’t a moron because if he lights his house on fire yours is probably going with it.

Part of the northend of the town i live in is like this. Subdivisions full of 4plex and up/down duplexes and it's a complete nightmare for parking. Especially in the winter when the snow starts to accumulate.

Yes, a country is it's people but the flag and anthem are symbols and representations of that, which give us an identity and remind us of how fortunate we are to live where we do, and the sacrifices that were made to make that possible.

Our area was one of the first to be rezoned for the split lots, thanks to our former wonderful and talented councillor Michael Walters. I remember meeting with him when he was proposing this, and telling him and his 2 young staffers that our area has no back alleys and therefor, the vehicles out front will be stacked upon each other and both sides filled, making it dangerous for kids, etc. One of his minions responded that having a crowded street would make drivers more careful and would reduce the chance of an accident, while Mr. Walters nodded approvingly. At that point, I said goodbye, before I punched someone in the face.

The city has just been allowing developers to do whatever they want for a few years now. I am in a big infill area (Allendale) and almost every single infill project any where near me the last 4 or 5 years I get a notice from the city telling me they are waiving existing zoning laws to let the developer do what they want.

The good news about infill is that it does get rid of old run down houses.

The bad news is that tons of mature trees get cut down, damage is done to adjacent properties. (The one next door badly damaged my fence). Parking is at a huge premium as adding double wide houses with bike lanes means forget parking out front of your house.

Ah yes....Walters. I think in his first election I got hoodwinked into voting for him and totally regretted it within about 6 months.

I agree with the first half of the sentence but the flag and anthem are symbols that the people gather around to demonstrate their common commitment and passion for shared ideals. I personally dislike the anthem for the start of NHL games because it’s international in its player make up, but the whole idea of communities battling is tied to nationalism so I understand why it’s a part of the game experience in North America. I simply choose to go to the bathroom and grab a snack when that part is occurring and I dont let it bother me.

Edit - @Stoneman89 ,apologies, I didn’t see your earlier post that says the same damn thing!

No problem. One thing about the bolded though. The anthem at the NHL games is really for those in attendance (assuming most of them- the fans - are from that country), as well as honouring the country of the opposing team (U.S.)

Islands in the stream.
Buddy next door spent 2K getting new shiny eaves and downspouts just last fall. They look real nice. He has a water fall all over the one side of the house. Its not draining a thing. Indication of a solid obstruction in drain. Nothing is draining. Waterfall. I doubt he even had the installers look at the drain.

My original eaves are fine, not leaking, and because I constantly remove debris, clean eaves, redo Eaves nails, replace with eaves screws where needed and not a problem. He's got basement flooding again and swearing. It takes 5mins to check your downspouts a couple times a year and clean all debris. Takes an hour to remove all debris from eaves. Do a minimum of work and you don't have problems. Do none and the problems multiply.

Awesome father's day I had. 6.5 year old hot water tank had the liner fail from the top of the tank. Let loose somewhere between 4 pm and 10 am yesterday...surrounding area carpet soaked, about 1/4" to 1/2" water in a nearby bathroom and storage room. Nothing damaged belongings wise, just a wicked pain the ass. My insurance company told me to submit a claim so got the ball rolling on that.

The best part, the plumber who installed it doesn't think the manufacturer will cover a new one under warranty even though it just expired by 4.5 months. Way to stand behind your product!

I could see if it was a full year past or beyond but to not cover a warranty claim 4.5 months over warranty on something that is expected to last at least 10 years would be pretty poor customer care.

I love this response. "Everyone will pull together for the good of the neighborhood". Sometimes its hard to tell if these people are just insanely naïve or if they know that what they are saying is BS but say it anyway.

My local city councilman says this sort of thing all the time. In his case, I am pretty sure that it is simply total ignorance.

Raptors disappoint once again.

Oh we may trade up....we may trade down! We may trade players?

Do nothing but pick where they were assigned to pick and as usual have one measly pick in the draft.

They guy they picked in the draft is a big Dick.
