I agree with you guys. You know that. My statement was more of an ancillary one.

New Van Halen live album out March 31. A few songs have leaked. They still sound amazing.

Nah. It's not really about intelligence. He belongs to a certain religion that does not accept a certain type of people. The dude is still smart as **** (memorization and logic), don't kid yourselves. The MCAT is ridiculously hard with so much questions regarding critical thinking. There's been so many stories of cheaters getting 4.0 GPAs and then totally flunking the test because from the beginning they did not have the intelligence to pass it. Surgery can be done with memory, but Docs are trained what to do during emergency or special situations. Can't really use memory to decide those things.

Just to add, I hate politics and I am not agreeing to anything Dr. Carson said. As long as he's not out there killing people, I don't give a **** and he can say whatever he wants to say to promote his religion. I agree with RP too, intelligence (if the Dr. does indeed have low intelligence) doesn't mean anything, it's your impact on others.

Did you end up taking it? They added an extra section this year, so it's 6 hours now. I have to start studying soon and have no idea how I'm going to approach it.

Yeah, everything is cool I am just incredulous on how such a talented and intelligent human being can think so backwards in other avenues of life.

It could be very well what BWH stated earlier; the guy spent his life in a bubble and may not have a whole lot of real world experience. (Although one would suspect the formative years in ghetto life would have taught him everything he needed to know about "real life.")

In any event, his public statements do not appear commensurate with future success in the political arena. I guess he is just one of these fringe doctor specialists whose foray into politics won't last very long. I seem to recall another specialist from the south in the not too distant past that hasn't done well in the political arena as well, even though he was elected to the HoR. Can anyone here help me out as to a name?

I took a couple mock ones, but never officially registered. I volunteered for four years throughout high school and college at a couple hospitals in So Cal. I actually wanted to get into surgery (was my goal for about 10 years). I thoroughly enjoyed working with the doctors, nurses, and patients. It was all grunt work, but I received a certain level of satisfaction from it. I sat in on a couple operations which was pretty awesome.

I just grew away from it toward the end. I wasn't a fan of the lifestyle and all the doctors, outside of the friendly chats with me, seemed to be real miserable. I guess the novelty of healing people wore off on them. It was really depressing because it seemed like they lost sight of the ultimate goal and impact they were making on society. I have a close friend that is an orthopedic surgeon and he hates it. He obviously takes a tremendous amount of pride in his work and how he can transform people's entire lives, but outside of the couple hours he's in the OR daily, it's all crap to him. It's tough to hear as an outsider. My biggest fear was going through that exhaustive process, both mentally and financially, and being miserable in my early 40s like they all were. I would probably pick up smoking along the way too. Every surgeon I know smokes. I simply didn't want to basically bankrupt my future over that.

The medical field has always fascinated me though. I took all the AP Chem/Biology/Anatomy classes I could get my hands on in High School and took a few comparable ones in college as electives. I audited a couple weekend classes at UCLA too.

The political climate is shifting in the US. He's already at a massive disadvantage. Both the women and youth vote will overwhelmingly disagree with those remarks. The women and youth vote is what basically won Obama both elections. He dominated them. The male vote was pretty even IIRC.

I'm not sure. There are quiet a few doctors in the US government though. Both Pauls immediately come to mind along with Tom Coburn.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...urned-by-fajitas-cant-sue-applebees/24403053/

WESTAMPTON, N.J. — A man who leaned over a plate of sizzling fajitas to pray can't sue a Westampton restaurant because the dish burned him, an appellate court ruled Wednesday.

Hiram Jimenez sought damages from Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar after a March 2010 incident at the chain's restaurant on Burlington-Mount Holly Road. But an appellate panel said Applebee's can't be held responsible because the hot food posed an "open and obvious" danger.

According to the ruling, Jimenez ordered fajitas that were placed in front of him in a "sizzling skillet." When he bowed his head "close to the table," the ruling says, Jimenez heard "a loud sizzling noise, followed by 'a pop noise' and then felt a burning sensation in his left eye and on his face."

In an incident report prepared for Appelebee's, Jimenez said he was burned on his face, neck and arms after "grease popped" on the fajitas.

Father sues Applebee's in son's choking death
His lawsuit said a waitress did not warn Jimenez that the dish was hot. It argued Jimenez suffered "serious and permanent" injuries "solely as a result of (Applebee's) negligence when he came in contact with a dangerous and hazardous condition, specifically, 'a plate of hot food'."

A trial judge dismissed the suit, finding Applebee's — a California-based chain with more than 1,900 restaurants — was not required to warn Jimenez "against a danger that is open and obvious."

I hope this is a turn in our ****ed up legal system. I am glad that the judges chose "open and obvious" danger, instead of choosing forseeable misuse or something outlandish like attractive nuisance.

W00t for sanity!!!

The man shouldn't be allowed to sue. Now if he had actually consumed the food at Applebees, there may be grounds for a law suit. But staring at your food that is piping hot on a red hot iron skillet is your own fault. The judge should've pointed out that he is a mexican and all mexicans now fajitas are served hot. Its like an old white person complaining about hot coffee.

But this is the same country that awarded June Miller $300k for getting her arm stuck in a vending machine not two months ago. "My Hershey bar were caught up in there and I had paid my money so I was getting my candy". "I didn't know my arm would get all stuck up in there, there weren't any signs or nothing".

I wouldn't go holding my breath about actual change going on. For every DUH YOU BURNT YOUR FACE ON A SIZZLING HOT PLATE OF FAJITAS there are dozens of Mrs June Millers out there.

I have all of these little theories and anecdotes about life. One of them is my belief that no one should ever pay for a gym membership. My theory on that was (prior to Ron's last post) that people weren't fat 100 years ago and there were no gyms back then. That picture flies in the face of that one. I still think gyms are a complete waste of money. You can get excellent exercise anywhere using your own body weight. If you must lift weights, a set of $300 dumbbells will allow you to do all kinds of exercises. I fully believe most people go to gyms to look at other people and to show off. It's a social thing. All of that elaborate machinery is just smoke and mirrors.

And as I was typing that some religious folks just dropped off some pamphlets. I'll give these zealots credit, they were very brief but the over done smiles were a bit creepy.

The gym is nothing more than a glorified meat market

Yeah, that photo kind of shocked me a bit...out went all the preconception that people were starving to death earlier in this century.

Then again, that was probably not a random photo; let's face it, how many fat women were in that tenement that just happen to go down to the courtyard to exercise that day? I imagine that was probably a bit staged...in any event, timely photos do tend to give you a better perspective of life then what your parents always told you when you were a kid.

Since we talked about how useless the USPS is and especially their tracking.

I got a new phone a few weeks back and Verizon gives you a ready to go shipping envelope to ship your old phone back in.

I started getting these threatening texts and emails from Verizon on Tuesday that they hadn't got my phone yet and I was going to incur this $300 charge blah..blah..blah. So Verizon have me a tracking number which only showed that the post office was alerted on the day that pre-shipment info was sent to USPS on 2/14. Not that they have it, not where it is, or where it's going
I got texts and emails from Verizon today that the phone was received but the USPS tracking is still showing the exact same **** as it was on Tuesday
