the Cards are a #1,2 and 3 top end starters away from being really good. Can they sign a #2 and #3 and trade for a #1 in one off season?
Nope. Can get some nice 40yr old LHP tho

Waino got a puppy! Louie is absolutely adorable, and he fills a promise that he made that he'd buy his kids a puppy when he retired. I've actually never heard of Louie's breed when they explained; it was something new to me.

"mo as GM
15 out of 16 years above .500
5 NLCS appearances
6 division championships
regardless of whether it is time to make a change, he has been fabulous at his job in a way that very, very few other GM’s can make a claim to
the visceral hate the some have towards him is completely unwarranted"

This is my earlier post on the subject, notice how I specifically noted "regardless of whether it is time to make a change"
there is visceral hatred for Mo that belies his actual accomplishments and I was pointing that out
now, it may be time to change and put a fresh set of eyes on how things are done, the downside is that any change of direction could wind up significantly worse rather than better

he rode the coattails of walt jocketty's acquisitions and core. Almost all of the winning players were either brought here or drafted by Walt. sure he made some good moves here and there, especially in 2011 to resolve the bullpen woes and thats great. but he hasnt done anything meaningful since 2012-13 and the beltran signing. He gets hosed in almost any trade and only acquired Goldy/Nado because their teams didnt wanna pay them anymore and wanted to do rebuilds so he got them for crumbs too.

instead of going all in while arenado is in his prime and goldy is having MVP numbers, hes dumpster dived and signed an aging 42yo pitcher to a idiotic contract that tied up vast resources when hes already nickel and diming the roster as is, all so they could sell wainwright retirement cups and shirts.

baseball is a business, Waino was good business

if all he did was dumpster dive and make bad trades, Mo must be even more of a genius to have that many winning seasons against only one losing season

You know Arenado is pissed with the Cards being a last place team, and now Goldy has to watch Dbacks in the playoffs. They should both be demanding a trade. They are wasting their primes being on this shit team (Goldy is now past prime but still has 2-3 good years left).

There’s not a chance Mo is going to outbid other teams on FA pitchers like Nola, Snell and Grey.

Yea, that's why I'm a little eh about all the historical accolades we give Mo. Yes, he's been a better then average GM over his tenure, but the last ~6-8 years the Cardinals have really never pushed themselves to have a Championship roster, they've allowed themselves to shoot for a little better then a .500 win % cuz they knew that's the level needed to get to the playoffs in the putrid NL Central.

Didn't the Rangers DFA Adolis Garcia but then no one claimed him so they had to keep him?

Yes. Any team in the league could’ve taken him for basically nothing and every team decided not to. I can’t really fault the Cards for it when even the Rangers themselves didn’t think he was any good. Not like they had some scouting insight that the Cards missed.

Why would a top FA pitcher come to a last place team? I guarantee Arenado is pissed and regrets not opting out.
Both Marcus Semien and Corey Seager signed in Texas after the team hit over 100 losses. Now they're both WS champs only two years later.

The only thing that would prevent a player from signing is the Cardinals not paying the money needed, not the player looking at loss records.

That's still not enough to remake our entire rotation plus bullpen, unless someone decides they simply cannot live without Tyler O'Neill and trades us a cost-controlled front-line starter.
It depends, it would by enough for Nola at 25m, Gray at 18-20m, and a cheaper reliever. Hopefully there's a real shot that Carlson and/or Oneil are traded as well.

My hope is that one of them ends up in Tampa in a Glasnow deal, but he will have a lot of suitors if made available as rumored.
