That is true, he didn't. Three times. Keep having everyone swing for the fences. Don't try to do anything different like manufacture a run.

I actually hate Marmol more than I did Matheny. So I am biased.
Don't think Marmol is telling the guys to swing for the fences. I don't think he is a great Manager but he gets blamed for way too much when it's just as much of the players failing to show up.

Absolutely on the players too. I guess I'd like to see some 'shorten-up' and take more of a Tony Gwynn, Don Mattingly approach with the bases loaded.

I think that's less on the coach and more on the players. I don't see Marmol going up to Goldschimdt and giving him advice on how to hit.

Neither do I. When did Goldy come up with the bases loaded? He didn't.
It was Burleson, Gorman, Walker & Edman. Gorman gets a pass, because he's been our most consistent RBI guy. It would be nice for any of the other 3 to take a simplified approach.

My whole thing is I don't think Marmol is telling these guys to go for a homerun or hit a single. He's probably telling them just to get a run in however they can. It's on the players to get a hit, and I don't see a coach being any hinderance to that process. The most Marmol does is probably call for a bunt but the hitting is left up to the players.

I’d seriously look to move Flaherty, Monty and Goldy at the TDL.
Close to 0 percent chance they move Goldy, and they shouldn’t. This isn’t hockey where teams can get first rounders and can’t miss prospects for star players. In baseball, it ends up being an array of risky talent.

Teams don’t trade a player like Goldy unless they can’t afford to keep him, which is a moot point with the cardinals and him.

I think it's good that the Cardinals are struggling because for too long they have been on cruise control without having to change how they approach the game/how they run their team

With one year left until UFA, I’d move him now while his value is still high. He’ll be 37 when his contract expires. We suck, move him while we can.

Flaherty, sure.

Montgomery, no. In fact, they should try extending him. Pitchers of his caliber or better are apart of the solution.

Goldschmidt- 0 chance he's moved nor should he be.

I should have said if they can’t re-sign Monty by the TDL, then I’d move him.

What good is holding on to Goldy for another year? Are we looking to resign a 37 yr old to a long term contract? I’d hope not

You’re highly underrating Goldschmidt here, IMO. Yes, we should resign him after next season.

The cardinals aren’t going to rebuild, and nothing we would realistically get for Goldy would be worth it.

Sign a 37 yr old to a multi year contract?

Because he brings positive value to the team and is still one of the best hitters in the world.

With the universal DH, they can probably extend him for 3 years and have no concern on getting positive value from his contract.

I'd look to move him if someone offered us a King's ransom - otherwise I'd keep him and extend him. We are just in such dire need of pitching throughout this organization, you have to keep everything open. But I wouldn't trade him for a bunch of pitching prospects, I'd want guys at the MLB level with 3+ years of control who look close to becoming front-end starters.

Aside from Winn, most of our better prospects are pitchers. And I believe at least two of Hence, Hjerpe, Mcgreevy, and Graceffo will become serviceable or better starters.

With the lack of hitting the last couple weeks I’m not so sure pitching is as big of an issue both currently with the major league squad and in the minor league pipeline. I’d argue that there isn’t a single team that would offer a frontline potential starter for Goldy.

Interesting - not familiar with him. If he has a HBP, then that’s not perfect, right? Still stellar, but if he finishes the game with 0 hits, 0 walks, but a HBP, that’s not a perfect game, that’s just a no-hitter?

True. Not sure why the Twitter guy is saying perfecto. But my point is that the dude looks pretty nasty. Thoughts?

Wonder how long his arm lasts. He seems like really puts a lot of effort behind his pitches.

Eh he is pitching in Low A. If he was doing this at Double A I'd be paying more attention. Plenty of college pitchers dominate at Low/High A but fail to translate it to Double A
