Agreed. That's another reason I'd say "go for it" in regards to a 4th OF. Or even someone who is better than a 4th like Pederson or Duvall.
I’d be happy with Peterson as a fourth outfielder to platoon against righties. Would also help to have Carlson hit to his talent level. He’s too talented to be as terrible as he hit this year.

Apparently Carlson had a messed up wrist and thumb. Which would explain the massive drop off of his batting as well.

I think it was you who posted this, but maybe we are hyping up our prospects too much.

The hype is coming from all sides; org, journos, us etc.

There have been a good handful of pitchers who have not panned out (skill, injuries or otherwise) and our outfield prospects mostly seem to be one-trick ponies, i.e., they have an imbalanced skill set.

We've a had succession of catchers who can handle pitchers, but can't hit. Or maybe we never had enough time to figure out if they could handle a pitching staff?? hmmmm

Are the scouts being disproportionately praised for their work? I mean, there has been a shit ton of hype for a bunch of our prospects for a while now and they, mostly, have not worked out.

idk

The scouts have probably changed over time as have the coaches. What hasn't changed over a good chunk of time? MO and DeWitt.

ok rant over

There's a reason I haven't paid much attention to the Cardinals in the last few seasons.

I'm not sure what you are saying I posted.

What is so hard to follow?

Prospects have been hyped. Whoever posted that is right.
Ahhhhh. Ok. Sorry. Haven't been sleeping much with my pops in the hospital. But we've definitely had some over hyped prospects in the Cards farm. But, then again that's MLB wide. Was definitely someone else who posted that tho.

All good, Bubba! Hope your Pops gets better.

Sending positive waves!!!

Arenado agrees to stay with the Cards until 2027. But, tells ownership they need to start spending money. Cards will be heavy in the Catcher and SS Market this offseason. Contreras most likely being the Cards Main target behind the plate.
damn i was looking forward to dejong getting 500 ABs and breakign the single season K record and hitting .025

@ChicagoBlues I made that comment when talking about Albert and Maddux leaving. Especially when it comes to the two areas you mentioned, OF and pitching. It always seems like we've got these prospects that everyone is told to be excited about, that then come up and underperform.

Hence why I'm sick of us always banking on our prospects. Go pay for some real talent, there's no way we should be this mediocre with our fan-base and revenue. The blueprint of - Beat the crappy teams, maybe sometimes win against decent/good teams, sneak into a wildcard or possibly once in awhile win the division if everything breaks right (Such as this year when Milwaukee inexplicably decided to trade their best reliever and possibly one of their best players for nothing, thus gutting team morale and sending the Brewers into a tailspin.)

I much prefer the DA method of handling prospects. His MO over the years is - We don't just hand him a roster spot. We sign a guy that we think is a good vet and if our young guy can't beat the more established guy, then to the minors the young guy goes. If you can't beat out an established bottom 6 NHLer, then you're not good enough for this league yet.

The Cardinals always do that thing where they're like, oh ya, we could totally use a LH DH, but we don't want to block Gorman, so we won't sign Schwarber......then Gorman comes up and isn't the performer that you expected.

DH is the least of my worries with this team. Gorman or Yepez both can fill that role and are ideally great fits for that role. I think Gorman will be just fine, he had a tough second half but he also was one of the few people who hit in the playoffs surprisingly. They need a legit consistent power bat either at SS or OF. Cant rely on Oneill or Carlson to stay healthy and produce and Dejong needs to go sell used cars.

They also need a top of the rotation starter and a quality LHP in the bullpen who is not a headcase and is reliable. And ofcourse a starting catcher. If the Cardinals are honestly interested in improving the club, they should trade for Sean Murphy from the A's and sign Trea Turner.

But they will dumpster dive, sign some overpriced FA like did did with Fowler and Leake who will not fit in or perform well at all and then watch as 3million more sheep pad their bank accounts.

What a great night. On plane back to Houston tonight and virtually everyone was watching Astros game. We all erupted when it was over. Flight attendants served whole plane complimentary shots.

Schwarber was the literal perfect fit for this club coming into this past year. We NEED a LH bat that isn't Corey Dickerson level. Our lineup struggles so hard against right handed pitching and we see more of it than literally every single club in the MLB. There is an easy blueprint to stop the Cards offense. The NL average of PA vs RHP was 71.7%. STL as a team was at 77.9%. Goldy and Nolan were at 79% and 80%. Get them more AB's vs left handed pitching by having a more balanced lineup and it will positively affect the rest of the offense.

More than focusing on a specific position this offseason, we just need to get a legitimate everyday LH bat. I really wish we would have went all in for Corey Seager as that was a perfect match too but that ship has sailed.

Carlson will bounce back. Sounds like his wrist was pretty jacked up. O’Neill, I’m not counting on him to be an everyday player any more.

All we need is Trea Turner SS, Willson Contreras C, and Shohei Ohtani for the rotation and DH.

Something light for Mo.

Ohtani isn't being traded.
I know the Angels said they wouldn't trade him but they wouldn't turn down a Walker, Winn, Hence, Gorman, Graceffo, Carlson trade. We would never offer that but technically anyone is available for an outrageous overpay

I honestly think any off Swanson, Bogaerts, or Turner would be fantastic pickups for SS. Murphy from the As or Contreras would be good for the C position.

The nice thing about some players we have like Edman and Donovan is their ability to play the middle infield and the OF corners. Then we have nice young power hitters like Yepez and Gorman for the DH as long as they don't hit a wall and continue to hit like last year.

Definitely need Carlson and O'Neill (if they don't trade him) to be healthy this year tho.
