When you can bring in a guy who was hated by his players you have to do it.

Mac the snake oil salesman getting the media to believe he should keep his job was amazing.
I’m sure there are plenty of players who despised BB.

Gase has gotten a few extra wins out of a trash Dolphins roster the past few seasons. It’s an intriguing hire at the very least IMO.

He is a weird dude, though. I won’t deny that. Honestly, I’m not really sure what to make of him. When he got fired, I was very interested in who was gonna pick him up next. Nice that I can follow him closely here.

I don't think the Jets were concerned how McCarthy would play without a HOF quarterback, because Gase's only success has come with Peyton Manning. I think this ultimately came down to finding someone who wouldn't threaten Maccagnan's control, which is dumb because Mac is an objectively terrible general manager.

Yes that's exactly it, I said it before and I think I said it this morning, it was going to be a control thing.

What's really disappointing is that I thought Christopher Johnson was smarter than Woody. I didn't want to believe he'd let it go down like this. I could forgive allowing Mac another year (he drafted Darnold, give him one more year to build something around him, whatever), but I thought he'd be smart about the HC shit.

Gase is probably the guy out of everyone mentioned that I least wanted.

I have no doubt it was an issue of control. I don't think it was Mac, though. Reeks of the Johnsons. Again.

Don't let their GM pick a coach. Don't let their coaches fill out their staffs. Pathetic.

I dont want Mac picking anything except maybe his nose.

They actually interviewed some good candidates. Gase was not one of them. The guy just ran his best player, GM, and then himself out of Miami. His only success came with Peyton who called his own plays.

That 100 million in cap space is not gonna be an easy sell after what Gase just did in Miami.

Not trying to be a dick, but how was Rhule people's top pick?

He's not known as an offensive genius, just a tough disciplinarian. He has 1 year of experience in an NFL staff.

The jump for college coaches to the pros never seems to work out. And that's for coaches that dominated at big schools. Not sure why a guy who was 8-17 at Baylor would be seen as someone about to take the NFL by storm.

As much as I have concerns about Gase, he's spent years in the league as an OC and HC. He didn't have really talented rosters in Miami, and Tanehill is always injured (played 50% of the games while Gase was coach). These are the QB starts in his 3 years there.

Tanehill - 24
Cutler - 14
Moore - 5
Osweiler - 5

Oh good, Greg can take the Jets best player on defense and play him 40 yards off the line of scrimmage.

Well, he picked our franchise QB.
We'll see how good Darnold turns out which will depend a lot on the coaching and the talent he gets surrounded with. Mac had the 3rd overall pick after spending 3 2nds to move from 6 to 3. The overall roster is crap and that's completely on him.

Meanwhile Kyler Murray declared for the NFL draft after winning the Heisman and being drafted by the A's in the 1st round and signing for $4.6 million. Will be interesting to see what happens with him. Personlly I don't think he'll be successful in the NFL.
