I agree with you on hit in the first I thought it was a major but the 2+5+10 made sense (because it’s the OHL) I also agree with the Danford play solid hit. As for the high stick maybe he bites his own lip but he was going crazy showing the refs the blood pretty quickly after it happened so I’m surprised they had to have a conversation first. I saw calls both ways that seemed pretty obvious from the stands that were missed including what looked like a holding the stick penalty that led to the first Gens goal
Even the holding/diving call on Sennecke and Dog player. That was so soft on both parts, most refs probably don't call that at all.

I'm also curious how if a player gets called for diving, how can it also be a penalty. That's always been a weird one to me

Agree I thought that was a nothing play but I’ll be honest refs have made some highly questionable calls against Niagara all year so far so to see some of them going the other way tonight was kinda nice

Almost 20 year old NHL FRP cannot make that turnover, absolutely pathetic. Rough start for Barlow, he’s gonna heat fast and soon. Been a dominant player since he entered the league.

Yeah, IMO Barlow is a good player, no doubt. But, I think he falls in the category of better NHL Prospect than OHL player. The league sees a lot of players that are great NHL prospects. They have the right size and many of the right attributes that make a potential impactful hockey player in the NHL “in time.”

Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily mean they have developed in a way that makes them super elite right now in the OHL. There are a handful of players in the OHL right now that are far more impactful and have demonstrated as such over their career.

So, when I say Colby Barlow is overrated, I don’t mean as an NHL prospect. I mean as an OHL player. He has scored 40 goals twice which is great. No doubt. He uses his size pretty effectively for the purpose of scoring goals and creating opportunities for himself. But, he isn’t and has not been super elite. He hasn’t developed a game where he makes the players around him better. He is a finisher and that is pretty much it. He doesn’t create much offence. He doesn’t have great puck touches that generate that offence. He can use his size to get to the net and he has a great shot. That’s about it. He is not making and setting up plays.

In my opinion, the trade return for him was based so much more on his reputation as an NHL prospect rather than his actual impact as an OHL player. Can he change his game to be more impactful? Sure. Will he? I don’t think so. He will have to at the NHL level though.

Where I think that trade may pay dividends is in the playoffs. He definitely is an elite scorer and with his size, he will be able to battle through the traffic and tighter defence to find his scoring opportunities. So, although I don’t feel he is a super elite player that was worthy of that level of trade return, I do feel that there is a possibility he could earn his keep when the playoffs roll around.

Just because a player embellishes doesn't necessarily mean that the offending player still didn't commit the offense.

In other words, the refs may have always intended to call the original penalty, and then add on the dive after the infraction.

Matt Rempe being sent back to Hartford yesterday causes a log jam up front.. time will tell ... The Gens desperately need that big power forward type centre.

Is Barlow another Oskar Olausson?

He's back and playing tonight in Kingston and no he's not Roobroeck (yet) the player who makes his return is Ritchie.

Torrence with 3 points in the first 14 minutes of play.

Remember when some people thought he should be the OA that gets cut rather than the 3rd line defenceman if Roobroeck returns?

Not to mention dropping to gloves when someone takes a run at our star player.

Asinine.

If anyone had any questions about who stays. I think this game made it pretty clear.

So that Gens team looked pretty damn good.. Dominated possession the majority of the game which is what they were very good at last year when they were good.

PP1, who hasn't even practiced together yet, is going to be so fun to watch. They were snapping it around against a Kingston PK which is one of the best in the league.

Will be interesting to see if they use O'Toole on 4th line F as right now they don't really have a "tough" guy for when they're winning 6-0 in the 2nd period and the other team starts to do dumb shit, which will happen several times this season with this Gens roster. Although Torrance and Sandhu both did handle themselves well tonight

Gens are now alone in 1st place in the division. Other teams have played less games but a testament to the team hanging around until their guys got sent back. Now they can go on a run

Because there tends to be a lot of flaming this is a a genuine question - what "dumb shit" was there tonight? I get the Torrance fight because it was a questionable hit on a star (personally I thought it was ok but I was at the far end of the rink so I didn't have a clear look).

As far as I'm concerned the worst part about the Gens tonight was that they didn't give a stick tap to the girl holding a big Oshawa blanket up against the glass after the game lol.

Imagine how good they will be when Barlow arrives from Owen Sound!

Would love to see Sennecke, Barlow and Ritchie on the same line. I think if they did this Barlow finally takes off.

Has looked out of place in few games I’ve watched this year. Almost like Russell Westbrook when he was on the Lakers

I didn't say there was any tonight, other than the Burns elbow to the head of Sennecke. But it's going to happen. Gens have a very skilled team so guys are going to take runs at Ritchie/Sennecke, etc. to try to throw them off their game. Right now Gens don't really have anyone to respond to that whereas last year you'd have to answer to Roobroeck/Punnett, etc. and that would be a deterrent. Gens 2 guys to make people answer are O'Toole and McDonell who both aren't regulars in the lineup

I guess the question for the Gens is how worth the roster spot is how valuable is that lineup spot/how much you downgrade from. For me it'd depend on team by team and who the real tough/physical guys are. Kingston doesn't really have the old school "out there to take a run at a guy"; the biggest hitter is probably Burns then McGowan and while Burns will fight pretty much anyone (win or lose) I'd hope he'd be smart enough not to go with a bottom pair D, of course depending on the game situation - so you don't really need the toughest lineup against them. Against teams with a tougher team top to bottom I can definitely see O'Toole being a valuable presence against teams that do have those guys that are mostly worthless other than physical play.

Yeah it depends on the team you're playing for sure. You play a team like LDN last year and come in with no "tough" guys and the Boulton, Sim, etc. type guys will try to run you out of the building. Barrie has a couple D like that this year with Eliasson/Aitcheson. Extremely physical

Only 39 more to remain perennial!
I just found out Cal Ritchie has 0 OHL goals this season. BUST!!!
