Oshawa Generals 2024-25 Season Thread, Part 1

What happens if roobroeck doesn’t come back AND they don’t trade for Konnor smith? Is there a chance they’d add a guy like Trent Swick (who is huge) from Kitchener on the wing?

I also wonder if they get a proven backup for oster. From what I’ve seen gravelle probably isn’t ready and what happens if oster gets hurt around playoff time?

So many variables it's hard to predict.
I think Oshawa adds one's more D and another Forward.

They wouldn't add another OA goalie so who is proven that is affordable and worth AFTER address the other 2 positions I mentioned first.

Im told a Gibson from SOO could be an asset Oshawa pursues.

Gotta wait and see on Roobroeck so we may not know until Jan 9th (or whenever OA trade deadline is)

If I am the fronts I would absolutely try and get an upgraded OA like parsons in net and then have Betts who is 16 learn from one of the best in the league. I think Betts is better than vaccari already so that’s why I mentioned vaccari but I could see kingston not wanting to trade their goalie of the past 3 seasons to one of, if not their biggest rival.

If it’s picks they want it would make more sense for him to go to a team like Kingston or Brampton who has no shortage of that. Would griffin be on the table? Yeah will get very hairy if Danford is out and Ritchie, Barlow, Sennecke make Canada (I'd assume 2/3 of them do). I don't think Sinivuori will make Finland until next year. A potential lineup if those 4 are all gone would be:

He's signed to a B card right now which means he's allowed to play up to 10 games. So he's also going to still play with King. Mainly as protection for him so if the Gens go add 2 veteran D-men at the deadline and suddenly he's the 6th/7th D, he's not just sitting out in his draft year. The B card can be upgraded to an A card at any time though. Will depend on how his transition to the OHL is and how he looks. I was told he's playing vs Ottawa tomorrow

If memory serves correct, all rookie players are on an affiliate card until they play their 8th game and then they upgrade to a full card. How the OHL team manages that is up to them (and the player).

If you're signed to a gold contract then your automatically on an A card. They don't usually release which contract you're on when they announce the signings tho. Can only have so many gold contracts on a team at one time

Gens sign 2008 born 4th round pick Anthony Figliomeni. I mean this as a compliment but he plays like such a prick. A very Brady Stonehouse type game that drives the opponent wild. Assume he gets into a handful of games this year then is a bigger piece next year

From what I’ve seen he’s having a great dy +1 not putting up as many points this year but very very reliable in the back end. Dont believe he gets much powerplay time though if any. Leads the PK and captains the team however.

Next year i would expect a big increase in points as he may be the pp quarterback too next year with Marelli probably heading to the AHL after a phenomenal season (so far) and D’amato (OA)I believe is usually the one that subs in for Marelli on the powerplay but could be wrong about that.

Assuming you are a leaf fan asking- his development play should look something like this: finish this season (2024-25 and play next in OHL-2025-26) then AHL for a year (2026-27 then the NHL finally in 2027-28

Lots of room to grow but I definitely think he ends up in the NHL some day and is a very safe pick.

Roobroeck will not be back. Gens need to take him off their roster on the OHL site.
