Opinion: Jonas Siegel and James Mirtle are a couple of Jellyfish.

What the holy hell did shanny block?

There's been reports that delays caused by the board and Shanahan kept them from getting a top pair defenceman at the TDL.

That would be either Ekholm or Chychrun. Well, the Ekholm deal happened after the McCabe deal. And Chychrun was available for more than a year.

Ah another Pro/Anti Dubas thread.

TBH feels like people here are grieving the fact when the new GM is here can't start these anymore

The new GM is a fool.
The new GM can't even land a player already under contract.
The new GM's coach is a joke.

This is like a post dated cheque ... maybe you can cash it maybe you can't.

True but I feel like this is going back to the division in the boards of tanks vs no tanks levels tbh just a lot louder and argumentative/spinning

As you pointed out I think social media has made it a lot louder that's for sure.

That doesn’t make sense.

I personally would have taken ekholm over o rielly. But 6.25 is tough.

I think it's definitely fair to say someone like Jonas has a pro Dubas bias - and he's far from the only Toronto media type that has a sympathetic view of him.

It's also not someone like Jonas: job to prop up Shanny/MLSE's version of events either.

In relation, people have been throwing a lot of hate towards Chris Johnson here the past few days because he reported some news they didn't want to hear about Shanny's reluctance to move any of the core four. They're not just here to make fans feel good with their reports

The neutral take is 'what has Dubas done?'

Not for overall accomplishments but taking apart every move. TBH, as much as we'd hate to admit the Kadri trade set the team back years. He expected a borderline top pair D and 3C and in return we got a guy who wilted against 3rd lines and guy who couldn't stick as 3C even though he was a coaching and management favorite. Kadri went on to score more than a PPG and win a Cup.

He traded Marchment and Barabanov even when this team lack serious depth at LW. Instead going with Malgin and Galchenyuk?

The process may be great. The logic may be sound. But in the end, every move is a gamble and Dubas lost a bunch.

O'Reilly was approximately $1.8M.

If Dubas was willing to dump Kerfoot, he could have easily had Ekholm over McCabe. I believe he had the choice, wasn't hindered by anyone, and chose McCabe because of cap flexibility. Which is fair, but I think it's still a bad choice.

Shanny's press conference was not a great look. He relayed too much that should've been kept private, sewering Dubas.

And in his own words, he had decided that Dubas was the right guy for the job. He then, a day later after negotiations, scrambled and made an emotional decision to change course with no backup plan in sight ahead of a very important couple of months for the future of the franchise.

He answers to the board and their preferences, but it was a move made without any foresight.

Shanahan's press conference was a breath of fresh air. After all the theatrics Kyle displayed at his presser it was absolutely necessary to expose him as the grifting fraud he is.

Honestly, stepping back in to the fray here, it feels more acrimonious then tank/anti-tank days.

I generally feel that the love or hate people have for this scribe/ talking head or another really depends on the flavour of the day. If people agree with them, they are geniuses, if not, they are the worst of the worst. The only exemption is Simmons - he sucks always.

Not really though. The reaction of the Athletic has been partisan and kind of weird. They are sort of the viewpoint of the cultured fan, who wants to pay a subscription and say the right thing in social settings, this obvious biased journalism is fun to illuminate.

No. You never do anything at that level without a contingency plan.

Uh, someone is pro Dubas, let's make another thread to bash him.
This place has become worse than Twitter & Co.
No. Mirtle/Siegel had no problem with Shanny 2 weeks ago (as far as I can tell). Now they are saying on their podcast "how can we trust him now?" Shanny was asked about trading the "core 4". Shanny said that there was nothing in the works (paraphrasing). Mirtle/Siegel believe that he's only saying that to "calm the fanbase," Yeah Jonas. It's his job to keep the fans calm. Why would he want the fans to believe that it's all crumbling down? Moving the "core 4" or not should be up to the next GM. Shouldn't it?

Must be a very important report Siegel wrote because he put it up on twitter yesterday and then reposted the very same report with the in case you missed it ICYMI heading today.

Then he joined James Mirtle on his pod cast to cover it all again.,
Then he walked to the Soo in his bare feet, without food or drink, to light a candle. It was then he was complete and healed.
