From 2008-2012, Girardi was -21 at even strength. Staal was -11.

Oops.

This is Girardi, nothing earth shattering not -21 unless he was on the ice +25 shorthanded.

The people have spoken. I don't make the rules
This is the way.

For half the season the so-called "eye test" crowd was spamming the board with "Fox hasn't scored a goal since April or whatever it was." Statistics. Now the same people are questioning whether mph really gets at the fine details of skating speeds. Ok Socrates.

I'm sure they know what they're talking about.

Great then he puts up 45 points here next year at 13 million per.
Pass give me a decent top 4 dman or a decent young center instead (I know small chance of that happening).
No one asked for your ice cold plunge in reality. We're on a hockey forum, pasture of the fantasical!

Both were + players for their career. What's with the arbitrary 08-12 timeframe?

I always felt like it was shitty to dunk on Girardi and Staal, who were great Rangers and helped this team get the dark ages stink off us. Staal was probably destined for greatness until the concussions and eye injury.

Why did Kreider play over Kyle Connor if he's nursing a serious injury?
P
If only sports were that easy. We would not need scouts or coaches. We could just hire some teenagers living in their moms basements with a computer. :)
Well, every scout said Laf was the best player in his draft, and Kakko was the 2nd best player in his draft. You may have something there, teams should start looking in basements for there front office talent.

Not every scout said that. Detroits didn't. Did the guys in the basement that don't use their eyes say not to draft Laf number 1?

If I went past that, it would have been "but he was old then!"

I'm not here to argue about Girardi and Staal. Just extremely odd to say "why didn't bring that up with Girardi and Staal!!" when neither were particularly plus players and Fox absolutely blows them away in GF%.

And that's not a knock on them. They're just not on that level. It's comparing Stepan to Malkin.

Just an odd thing to bring up, and wrong.

It turns out the Rangers board is not the only crazy board on HF. The main boards asked if Bettman should pull an Adam Silver and trade Brady Tkachuk to a major market. Presumably this tournament turned Brady f***ing Tkachuk into Luka Doncic.

Can people shut the f*** up about Slavin already? His team had a 9.6% higher expected goal % when he was OFF the ice. That's tied for 151st in the league. Fox is 13% higher when he's ON the ice. That's good for 6th in the league. Mind you this is his "bad season". Somehow on a team that's probably the best in the league in the metric Slavin has an xG% that's below 50% and is 7.3% below Adam Fox in arguable his worst season in the NHL since his rookie year, playing with one of the worst defensemen in the league. Fox does get a lot more offensive zone starts but so does Makar, maybe Slavin would get more offensive starts if he was a better offensive player.

Quick analysis, I tried to control for OZone starts by using regression and using OZone starts as the independent (x variable) and the relative expected goals % as the dependent variable (y variable). I know this doesn't take into account quality of competition. But then again, I'm sure Slavin's D partner is better than Lindgren. Plus, Fox is a top pairing guy so he gets his share of tough competition.

As you can see Slavin underperforms his forecast and Fox overperforms his.

Charts, videos, poster opinions, etc are what they are, good, bad and subjective, since everyone can look at them differently, if you really want to.
To me, I saw Fox start the tournament on the top PP unit and first pairing D. After that first game he was off the top pair PP and was on the third pair, where he basically played the least amount compared to the other 5 Dmen. Even Sanderson, a second year player who came in for MacAvoy after his injury played more than Fox in the championship final game...So, the coaches, who have won multiple cups behind the US bench, saw Fox's performance THIS tournament as not very good. Those are facts, not charts, videos, or opinions...

J Hughes had a rough series but he flashed his stick handling and speed often so I think he will be just fine. I would 100% be open to a trade for Hughes.
He likely will be a big factor on the larger Olympic ice with his skills . I think we see many different faces on both clubs come then . I hope Canada does not select their roster on past heroics and really thinks this one through or they will get beat out for the Gold .

The Olympics in Torino will be played on NHL sized rinks...

Coaches have been known to choose eye test over metrics. To their own detriment.
All 4 coaches...??
