Oh my god. There’s the stoppable goal hat trick for Petersen.

Jim Fox is even going into all the goals and what he’s doing wrong on them. I think he’s seen enough.

Cal Petersen getting $5 million a year might be enough to cause a lockout. Holy shit that salary is a joke.

5 mil coming off less than 55 career games and a 35 game season with only a .911. To make matters worse it was an extension signed when he still had a year left on his contract. I mean did they f***ing expect a Vezina caliber guy where 5 mil would be an underpay?? Even if Petersen had the realistic best season possible 5 mil would've been the absolute max. Instead he had a .895 and you're on the hook for 5 mil over 3 years. Just a complete what the f***

Just peeped the scoreboard, 8-6 at the end of the 2nd? Sounds like a must see recap later.

Of course 16 goals wasn't enough to figure out which team was better tonight. Lets give them one more go at scoring in OT!

Maybe they were afraid that a break out season would mean he would need a longer, bigger deal so they wanted to lock Peterson up early?

Some things in life are not meant to be understood and that contract may be one of them.

Yeah, a bit of a chintzy call. A lot of them this year, NJ aside. Sort of feels like striving for precision where there is none.

But something about this Seattle team is very likable. Not just Lars, of course.

And not to mention, Petersen was already almost 27 years old when he was extended. I know goalies usually come in a little later, but still 55 games at 27 years old is really not a whole lot. What I’m saying is that’s kind of old to have only played 55 games in the NHL and to give that extension. I could understand if he were particularly young (under 25) but he wasn’t.

I’ve said it before but this would be like us giving Blackwood $5 million when we re-signed him in 2020. Maybe slightly less, say $4.5 million, with inflation and cap going up just a little bit.

And even Blackwood was only just turning 24 when he got that contract.

I will never understand this Petersen contract. Guy is one of the most overpaid nobody players in the entire league.

They're likeable because unlike Vegas, they are a true expansion team that didn't find instant success but started out building itself up.

Also, it helps that the team doesn't have unlikeable players (even though I only know a few)

So you're saying that after going to the finals in their first year Vegas should blown up the team so they could build from scratch like a real expansion team?

No.

I am just giving a reason why Seattle is more likeable.

Some people like the journey of an expansion team to go from zero to success (moderately at this point) as opposed to one that gained instant success from Day 1.

Calm down. :help:

They were given the exact same rules as Vegas. Only they weren’t as smart with asset accumulation (in fairness other teams got smarter as well) and decision making. Last year probably goes better if they keep VV instead of signing Grubauher and trading VV back to the Caps.

Holy shit, that Kraken-Kings game ended up 9-8? I was curious to see where that ranked among highest scoring NHL games, so I looked it up. I would say it has essentially tied the modern record.

17 total goals has only happened one other time under the current CBA, a Leafs-Red Wings game from last season: Toronto Maple Leafs - Detroit Red Wings - February 26th, 2022

Almost all of the other games with more total goals all happened in the 80s or way back in the 1920s, which were very different eras of hockey.

That's why I qualified with "under the current CBA", which was adopted in 2013 after the lockout that season. The game you're referring to was in 2011.

In any case, last night's game still tied that one. No game has had a higher goal total than 17 since 1996, when the Sharks beat the Penguins 10-8.
