Hynes' seat has got to be scorching hot
Poile needs to go too. 40 years as a GM in the league (like 40 years straight), no cups and one measly cup finals the entire time and two conference finals.

Anybody who thought that team was still a contender (yes, I’ve seen people claim they were) before this season started were f***ed. They’ve merely been coasting on the tail end of their contending/presidents trophy/cup finals years for the last 2-3 years now. I actually didn’t realize Josi and Ekholm were already 32.

Hynes might get fired to try and salvage the season, but Poile needs to choose to retire or be fired after this season.

I never did understand why people said Poile was some mastermind hockey genius . I remember when they had a couple of decent runs years back where the Canadiam media / CBC woild go on and on about how he built this amazing team . They had multiple in depth stories and pieces on Poile and the Preds on how Amazig and exciting the team was and how Nashville was one of the best cities in the league to watch hockey and how their fans were awesome….
Ya it is a fun city / party town and would be cool to watch a game there but let’s not get too crazy here.
That was years ago and ever since , for some unknown reason , they are seen as “contenders” every year.
To me , they are the very definition of mediocre and will be stuck there for a long time . I’d say they are way closer to needing to rebuild than pretend they can compete. They need Saros to be Vezina Saros or they won’t sniff even a WC spot. They need that AND everyone to have career years in order to be close to a WC

Them and Calgary…. The flames are sooo screwed if they don’t do anything in the next 2/3 years.
They have next to nothing for prospects and their core are all on the wrong side of 30 - Huberdeau Kadri Markstrom Tanev all habe maybe 3 years of peak hockey left.

He was a good GM, but his hockey hall of fame induction should be for the same reason Patrick Marleau will be in the HOF.

Marleau was a very good player, but he’s not HOF caliber outside of breaking the all time games played record.

And I’m a huge fan of Marleau, but better players than him won’t get into the hall.

I think part of it is the short shelf life of most coaches and GMs in the league. The thinking is that a guy who's able to keep his job for that long must be doing something right.

Nashville doesn’t even hardly fire coaches, let alone GM’s.

Poile has already been through ownership changes, but I wonder how long he would last if the Predators were sold right now. Would they do away with him fairly quickly like we did with Lou? Still took two more seasons of new ownership before Lou was gone.

I just watched the Lightning not able to score on a 5 minute major and not only that, but they were out chanced on the 5 minute major and the guy serving the penalty came out of the box on a breakaway and scored.

The Lightning are very meh this year. Im trying to think of who they’re missing or who is injured over there.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them win a round this year, but I think they’re probably a first round out.

I don’t know if I’d be more surprised to them not make the playoffs this year or to make the finals for a fourth straight year.

By the way, that 5 minute Lightning power play was worse than any Devils power play I’ve seen since probably last March. Maybe even February.

I still think they will make the playoffs. I don't think they will go far. They have had 4 years of long run playoff hockey. That has to take a toll on the players. However, with all their success, their window to win another cup is starting to close.

I think they could challenge again next year, but this will be a down year for them and I’m pretty confident of that.

A down year could mean just being eliminated in the first round.

Looking at all the underlying numbers, they’re clearly playing nothing special this year and are not really getting unlucky to have the record they do. Their shooting percentage is even above average at both overall and even strength. Their strength of schedule is apparently 30th (ours is 31st) And yet they’re still only gonna be one game above NHL .500 if they win tonight.

Vasilevskiy has been just okay, not great.

It doesn't matter. They've accomplished their goal.

Now it's all about making money on their contracts and winning the cup had become secondary.

Cirelli is out for them but yeah they're not very good right now.

That isn’t even the worse Tampa 5 minute PP this year. Against the Ottawa they had a 5 minute PP where the Sens took another penalty to make it a 5-on-3. The Sens got two break always short handed and scored on one. Ended up killing off the 5-on-3 and full major. Tampa still won the game though.

Though it doesn’t look like they will win tonight.

Cirelli and Bogosian.

Bogosian is a bigger deal then you think it would be because their defensive depth sucks, particularly on the right, which sort of helps explain how the Nicklaus Perbix/Sergachev became their most used defensive pair, but not really.

When the 24 year old rando Perbix being a nice surprise is one of the more notable things about a Tampa season you realize they might have jumped the shark a bit in terms of regular season entertainment, even though they’ll win a good number of games and should make the playoffs.

Ahh, yes. I actually remember watching that live a little over a week ago.

Is Blashill their power play coach now? I know he took over the vacant spot Lalonde left behind when he went and took the Detroit head coaching job. I’m just not sure what he coached.

One of these veteran teams getting Bedard is not a very good outcome...One of PIT, TB, BOS or WAS getting that level of player in an off year was always a nightmare scenario to me.
I think those teams will finish in the sports where they can’t get #1 even if they win the lottery (and obviously Boston won’t be in it at all).
