If we hadn't been kicking ass against everybody else, I wouldn't really be so enthusiastic with the win over Colorado.

This is their fourth game in a row against a Metro division team and so far they're 1-2-0, with the lone win being in the shootout and it looks like Columbus might get a point or potentially more out of this one.

Oh, and they've blow 3-0 leads in the last two games to both the Islanders and now Columbus.

They've been super unimpressive since the road trip began and haven't really looked that dominant at any other point like another team we've been watching a lot of.

I know they're handicapped with guys out, but I can't see them winning the cup this year without a HUGE get at the deadline.

And with Georgiev? HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! They're clearly not as deep as last year's team where they can cruise to a cup with Francouz/Kuemper playing like nobodies.

And now they've just taken their second double minor penalty of the day, although I think they killed both of the first one.

Call me crazy, but I could see them missing the playoffs with the roster they've been icing the last little bit.

I don't THINK they WILL miss the playoffs, but I could clearly see them just barely missing the playoffs 1996 Devils style with this current lineup. I think they had a pretty meh record to start last year, but you just look at their roster and compare the one last year. Much deeper last year from goal on out.

The Blues and Predators both being complete duds to this point might really be a much needed favor for them.

I'm glad we "missed out" on Johnny Gaudreau.

Every time I realized I got insanely mad by a UFA decision, I'm always saying it was for the best in hindsight. Kovy, we were a year away from cap recapture being 6.66M. Parise got bought out which probably would've happened here. And Gaudreau is self explanatory, no Palat + Marino in all likelihood.

I look at the Colorado lineup and I see about 3 ELITE players (they're very easy to spot when looking at the game log). That's Makar, MacKinnon, Rantanen. And then I see a couple other players that are good like I think Toews is a good defenseman. Then I see a whole lot of guys that almost every team has better players than. There's a couple of has-been's or at least older guys that have seen better days like Erik Johnson, Manson and Cogliano. Add Darren Helm to the mix, although not dressed today.

And there's a couple of underwhelming prospects like Newhook and bust Martin Kaut.

I'm not gonna touch the goaltending here.

DD favorite and former Devils property Jacob MacDonald is even dressed for this game and has now appeared in 3 this season.

Obviously those first 3 names I mentioned can win you a whole lot games with an otherwise mediocre lineup. Getting Landeskog back will be a ton of help, but losing Kadri is a huge blow. Burakovsky is also better than at least 8 or 9 of the forwards they have dressed tonight and he's gone too.

Hasn't helped Newhook looks over his head at 2C, that's probably one thing they were probably banking on.

I think he was seriously overrated.

People talked like he was a can't miss prospect and that they really needed to be absolutely careful of who they traded him for in their pursuit to win the cup.

Although, I think that was kind of true. They did need to be careful, as they might have had a lot more trouble icing a decent lineup with the cap if they lost him and didn't even win the cup while doing it, but from the standpoint that he's gonna be a GREAT player? I don't think so.

And he wasn't bad last year, he scored 36 points, but this year he's got 1 goal and 1 assist in 10 games. Both points have come in the last two games though.

So......

Brad Larsen gonna be the first head coach to be fired this year?

I didn't really think so, as it's only his second season there and there didn't seem to be many expectations last year.

In fact, I thought they were accepting they were in somewhat of a rebuild/retool after firing Torts and starting over again with Larsen? Especially after losing Bobrovsky and Panarin the year before. The expanded playoffs was probably why they even got into the playoffs in 2020.

Obviously any plans of a rebuild went out the window after signing Gaudreau, as well as really good, elite veteran defenseman Erik Gudbranson. Not to mention picking up Laine, which I've been told is Finnish for Ovechkin.

Nichushkin? They have almost suddenly become a very shallow team though, especially up the middle.

I did enjoy running into a Calgary buddy last week. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, but he quickly went from "Gaudreau for Hart" to "Columbus was dumb for signing Gaudreau." Other gems from the past:

"Calgary has the best defense in the NHL: Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Regehr..." (Phaneuf was traded a few months later)
"Calgary has one of the top prospect pools in the league: Gaudreau, Sam Bennett, Morgan Klimchuk, Mark Jankowski, Patrick Sieloff...."

and non-hockey: "Brady Quinn will be better than Tom Brady."

He’s another one they were supposed to have back, but I don’t think he played today? I certainly didn’t see him on the game log or on the ice, nor did I hear his name. A few days ago he was supposedly “Probable” for today.

Columbus scored it’s first PP goal in their 11th game of the season. So it went from to 0% to 3.1%.

They’ve given up two SH goals this season so their PP Goal Differential is -1 (-3.1%).

That’s something.

Pretty cool that you know Brady Quinn irl

Don't think he's played since the Rangers game before they played us, he's been awesome since he went there.

Same . I know he is a very good player and would make us a better team ( probably ) but …. I think there are , or will be , better options out there to make us as good or better then if we added him . Plus hopefully add whatever style player we need . Be that a stud goalie like Hellebuyck when he’s a UFA or trade , or a scoring shoot first winger or ?

Mute is a great invention, I hate him too. Guy talks like he's a 14 year old hockey player with this slang lol.
Way better than Hextal . Her call of the Ducks shootout the other night was pure gold . But gold as in the best job of doing a pathetic calling of a game ever .
She didn’t even know the game was over and was like oh .. ? “ Well .. there you have it “
Ducks player makes an usable deadly move on his shootout , she’s like “ That is a goal “
in a monotone voice .

I know, but I kind of want to half watch and you can’t do that on mute.

Lol that's fair, I wish there was an option to just to have a full game of that ESPN Rush segment where it's just the crowd reactions + players talking on ice

That was really bad, I thought the hockey in Sharks v Ducks was bad but the commentary made it WOAT caliber game.

@Bleedred going to have a stroke after seeing that VO softie in Carolina.
Oh, it was on young looking Raanta. I should have expected that. He's good for a goal like that probably every other game he plays. He allowed two like that (probably even worse) at MSG in the 1st period of game 6 of that series last year.

Did that go off Aho in front? ESPN's goal highlights are WORTHLESS sometimes. Like they don't give you a long enough replay and cut it off. I can't even tell if that first goal on Raanta went off his glove and bounced off somebody and in or if it hit another player and bounced in.
