Sergachev put a couple of beautiful hits on Mackinnon to separate him from the puck in center ice areas (not along the boards) on his blazing rushes last night. Bravo. Mackinnon is so elusive that it’s very hard to get a good body check on him when he’s maneuvering between the dots.

Avs fans crapping on MacKinnon.

If you are in the Stanley Cup final and the star player isn’t performing up to their usual standards it is probably because they are secretly seriously injured.
Two thoughts on this.

1)In the playoffs we know teams will gameplan to stop certain guys. Tampa is without a doubt keeping an eye on him.

2)Is he really playing poorly? 4 points in 5 games. Averaging over 5 shots per game. I know he had his pocket picked earlier in the series and that will stand out, but if he was shooting against Kuemper people might be thinking differently about his play.

Copy and pasted from a post I made after game 5 in a thread on the main board, with a few new add on's. Regarding Kuemper/Colorado's goalie play these playoffs.

Fuhr’s .883% in the 1988 playoffs was actually better than the average save percentage for goalies in the 1988 playoffs.

Fuhr had a +6.6 goals saved against average for the 88 playoffs. Fuhr had a + in goals saved against average in all of his cup winning playoffs.

Between Kuemper and Francouz Colorado has a -5.7 in goals saved against average and that was before tonight’s game. Kuemper’s -4.7 probably drops even more tonight, though his save percentage for this playoffs does not.

So really you have to go back way before 88 to find a cup winner with goaltending this poor adjusted for era.

Fuhr had a positive in goals saved against average for all of his cup wins. Without looking up Roy’s 1986 I’m gonna say his way heavily in the plus category as the Conn Smythe winner that year.

Skimming over Billy Smith he had a positive in goals saved against average in his 4 straight cup winning playoffs.

Let’s go to Ken Dryden, who I’m SURE was also in the plus category. Yeah that was an easy bet. Never had a negative GSAA in the playoffs.

Bernie Parent a positive in both his cup win playoffs.

I’m giving up going past then. That’s 50 years worth right there.

For what It’s worth, Fleury had a -4.7 GSAA for the 09 playoffs when he won the cup, but he played 24 games to Kuemper/Francouz’s 19 to this point. So a -4.7 in 24 games isn’t as bad as a -5.7 in 19 games. It gets a little better with Garon not allowing any goals in his relief appearances that playoffs.

Jonathan Quick had a -0.6 for the 2014 playoffs when he won the cup. Between Quick's -0.6 and Jones not allowing any goals in his relief stints that year, LA's goals saved against average between the two goalies is a dead even and average 0.00 GSAA.

Niemi gets some heat for the 2010 playoffs, but even he had a +1.3 GSAA during the 2010 cup winning playoffs.

2022 Colorado as it currently stands after game 5 of the SCF and with a 15-4 record these playoffs might legit have the worst goaltending for a cup winner all time. I wonder how much it would help better that stat if Kuemper had a 40 save shutout in game 6?

This is pretty easily the most poorly goaltended team to potentially win a cup. Even when a cup team had a bad goalie they were at least able to masquerade as a good goalie during the playoffs in which they won the cup and if they weren't, they were still much better than the Kuemper/Francouz combo.

I said this back in round two of the playoffs when they were hitting a bit of very brief adversity against St. Louis, but it's very hard to win the cup with sub-.900% goaltending. Just ask the 2001 New Jersey Devils.

I did count out the lightning after game 5, just thought they looked too gassed to win 3 straight.

And I still don't think they can pull this off.

But win tonight........
I gave up on them already twice in TOR series, once against NYR and once this series but they keep winning.

What a good series this has been though. Probably my favorite series to watch since 2019.

Tampa's power play might cost them a game. I'm sure it has already in these playoffs.

Kuemper is trash too. What's he doing there? I get feeling like you need to push across, but that was just so awkward.

Kucherov looks like he cares in this game. Not great for the Avs.

It drives me nuts that this guy says "Bo" Byram instead of Bowan. He doesn't shorten any other names.

One of the biggest strengths of Tampa these past few years has been their ability to always get better within the series. They truly are like a machine that takes a game or two to get rolling.
