This game right here for me is why Vasilevskiy deserves the hype and praise he gets.

Yeah, Kuemper helped out, but Vasilevskiy stood on his head, especially in this period. He gave them a chance last game too, although Tampa blocking shots also probably prevented him from seeing about 10 more shots. On attempted shots and not just shots on goal Colorado really blew them up last game.

I still think they're out of gas and it's showing once again in this game, especially the later the game goes.

They're really gonna need to try and blow up Kuemper again like they did in game 3 if they want another win. When the score is close going into the 3rd period they keep looking really bad and just don't have much left to really generate many chances.

For me 1st and 3rd goal was terrible. 2nd goal is probably gunna happen on most goalies.
I don't think the third was terrible, but it wasn't good.

Second wasn't bad, I didn't really think he had a chance.

First goal has gotta be up there with softies of the playoffs. I don't think it's coming anywhere near beating out the goal on Domingue that won game 6 of the first round for the Rangers. It's probably not beating out the really long range goal on Mike Smith, though that one was flukier than this one tonight.

I remember Francouz letting in some weak ones against Edmonton.

The game winner on Georgiev in game 3 of the first round was really bad and Raanta and Kochetkov each had some horrible ones against the Rangers.

Vanecek had a hilariously bad one against the Panthers in a game the Caps won.

I do because of the situation. It's the finals and your team is up 3-1 and the game is tied. You can't be giving up a goal like that. Especially when your team has just been dominating and managed to get the game tied after you singlehandedly forced the team to work so hard cuz you suck as a goalie (talking about Kuemper here).

If that theoretically happened to the devils, exactly how it played out, I would be really angry right about now.

Really loved Tampa's third period, really their whole game. But in the third, they were very physical with Colorado on the forecheck and had a big territorial edge from about the thirteen minute mark until they scored the go ahead goal. This was the first time this series I saw this from them, they hit every Tampa player they could line up all game long and finished those checks. It made a difference.

Tampa was the better team tonight. Yeah Kuemper let in a softie, but Tampa had a lot of other great looks, those sequences at the end of the second period for instance when Stamkos had the puck practically alone in front of the Colorado net on two occasions and nobody even got a shot away, lol.

I just have to admire Tampa so much. This was a gut check game and really I also think they made a key adjustment in how they played Colorado by hitting them continuously. Isn't that what you are supposed to do with a faster team?

Riley Nash and Bellmare and Maroon were superb.

Now there's some pressure on Colorado for the first time. We'll see how they respond. And we have some more hockey, hey, before going cold turkey at the end of the series.

Also edit to add - the Tampa PK was better tonight and they got a power play goal. They won the special teams battle for the first time. What?

Yeah, make no mistake about it. Goaltending has been historically bad for how good of a team this is. They're 15-4 in these playoffs while not even having the better goalie in many of their wins these playoffs. It's almost unheard of.

Francouz wasn't all that good either. He looked like he wanted to play some more games in Colorado during the WCF. He was no better than Mike Smith in those games in Edmonton, but Mike Smith allowed one more goal in each of those games than Francouz did because he faced about 20 more shots (over those two games combined) than Francouz did.

If you take out David Rittich's 20 minutes of terror in game 1 of the playoffs, I don't even think Nashville had the inferior goaltending in the first round against Colorado. At least not by much.

win or lose this is in all likelihood the first and last year of the Kuemper era in Colorado.

They’re either gonna win and let someone else sign him (Kenny Holland is waiting for him in Edmonton) or they’re gonna lose and let someone else sign him (still Kenny Holland but imagine if it were Lou? “We need a good veteran mentor for Sorokin! Especially a Stanley Cup winner!”) and that’ll be that.

I’ve said all along when they made that trade it was to win the cup THIS year. It wasn’t to hopefully or maybe win the cup this year, but if not definitely win it in the next 2-3 years.

How funny would it be if the last year of Varlamov’s deal gets sent back to Colorado and they end up with him again and Lou signs Kuemper? Don’t tell me about Sorokin or how Lou won’t do it, as if Lou actually knows what the f*** he’s doing anymore.

The Makar shot on the Nichushkin goal that looked like a bad rebound on Vasilevskiy definitely hit something and that’s what it fluttered off of him.

Colorado better hope that the shots that Tampa's been ringing off the posts (like Kucherov with 4 minutes left in game 4 and Sergechev with about 8 minutes left in this one) don't start going in and also that the puck doesn't start bouncing for Tampa more. Three of Colorado's last five goals - both of their regulation goals in game 4 and the tying goal in the third period tonight - have been nothing but favorable bounces. If that starts to even out, Tampa can win this series.

Especially as they figured out the penalty kill a bit tonight.

Not to mention it's been a massive battle to get anything in on Vasilevsky while any sort of pressure on their team's goalie could be easily be a goal. It's gotta be really draining.

Avs fans crapping on MacKinnon.
In fairness, he's not playing up to expectations. While Makar is blowing everyone out of the water, MacKinnon is doing his best Jonny Gaudearu impersonation while Landeskog, Nichushkin and Lehkonen does most of the heavy lifting at forward. He sure is coasting a lot of shifts for a guy that speaks as loudly as he is about winning and competing.

In a pure fantasy world, we'd be happy to take MacKinnon off of the Avs hands and bring him here to NJ, though. :naughty:
