One last thing on the Rangers. Aside from Shesterkin and their PP, they were very mediocre and fortunate to squeak through the first two rounds. Buuuut...I think anyone who says that they are not set up well going forward is in denial. They have two major pieces needed for a Stanley Cup contender - a legit goalie and a legit Norris caliber #1 d-man. Both aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The potential cap issues are being overblown (as is often the case). They have some good young pieces and they always have the potential to acquire proven talent just because players want to play there (God only knows why, but that's a different conversation).

I'm hoping the Devils catch up and can be a playoff team soon so that we can at least get back to a competitive rivalry.

I got no problems with McNabb, but both their TV PBP guy, as well as their radio PBP guy (he was their TV PBP guy up until about 3 years ago I guess?) are absolutely brutal.

The guy that's now been relegated to the radio is definitely worse. His goal calls for the Avalanche are like so obnoxiously over the top. He sounds like a big adult bully taunting a child after he steals their candy on some of those calls. And when the other team scores it's just ''Shot. Score'' with the least bit of enthusiasm The current TV guy is exactly the same in that regard. He's a bit obnoxious with his goal calls too, but not nearly to the level of the former TV/current radio guy.

But a couple of really annoying things the current guy does is the Naaaattttthhaaaaannnnnnnnn! MEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHKINNON!!!!! and the weird ''Jimothy Timothy!'' stuff when JT Compher scores, like that's really what the JT stands for.

The MeehhhhhKinnon stuff is kind of weird because it almost sounds like he's calling MacKinnon meh with the emphasis on the MEEEEHHHHHHHHH.

“Foligno shot score” is one of my favorite calls ever. I rewatch it every few months. It’s just so funny to me

I hate announcers like that so much. As much I'm not a fan of Sam Rosen, he never does that to the Devils whenever we play them. Not sure how a guy like that has a job especially with how the NHL tv tends to give opposing teams broadcasts for most of their games, just a mood killer lol

Believe me, that's a regular occurrence with that guy (who's now on the radio) and the current TV guy that replaced him a few years back.

That would have been a sweet softy of the night on Giguere.

The elite talent they've got will keep them competitive, I agree, but I do think they have a lot of work to do when it comes to their play at even strength, because they were pretty damn bad there. The great thing about elite talent is that it can get your foot in the door for the playoffs and even carry you through a round or two (which Igor clearly did for them this year), but asking, say, Sheshterkin to replicate what he did this season will be a very tall ask...not to say he can't do it, he might just be this good, but consistent domination is a very, very tough thing to achieve on an annual basis. Plus, you're not likely getting another 50+ goal season from Kreider or what have you.

Basically, I think the Rangers will be competitive over the next few years, but whether they can be more than just a playoff contender that occasionally makes a run when Igor gets rolling like this season will come down to how their front office approaches things now that they've had success "ahead of schedule". Do they mostly stay the course and keep building their depth up from within, or do they pull a 90s-2000s Rangers and start playing the "we're ONE really great talent away from being a Cup winner!" and start throwing away prospects and draft picks for guys who are good, but are over 30, or aren't really a fit for them, or are just a flashy name, all the usual things we used to associate with them.

I guess, to put it shorter: I don't think they're "in trouble", per se, but I also don't see them as a team that's going to reach, say, Tampa's level, not without their young guys and prospects taking some real steps forward over the next couple of years...which they might! I just have to actually see it, first.

Everyone is predicting this series to go 6 or 7. Watch Tampa take out the Avs in 5 games or even a sweep…lol. Shades of 1995.

I think it depends on how sharp Vasilevskiy is. Colorado's strength is clearly in its high powered offense. If Vasilevskiy is standing on his head, Tampa will win, and win quickly. If he is anything less than perfect, Colorado has a reasonable chance at overwhelming the Lightning.

By now, I think most people know not to bet against Vasilevskiy. But you never know.

I think it goes at least 6, no matter who wins.

I'm still having trouble picking a winner here.

I'd love to pick Colorado, I think they SHOULD win, but I don't trust Kuemper being healthy and I certainly don't trust Francouz, who really wasn't even better than Mike Smith last round and I'm pretty sure he wasn't better than Ingram in the first round, but he won because he allowed fewer goals because he faced FAR fewer shots than those other goalies. Francouz looked like he was really trying him damnedest to bring that series back to Colorado in both games 3 and 4 of the WCF.

Colorado is 12-2 with completely pedestrian goaltending. The 2001 Devils weren't able to win the cup that year with Marty having a poor playoffs, even though they went to game 7 of the SCF.

Then the Bolts better hope that Vas doesn't pull a Marty (2001 version) here.

I would say he's been closer to the 2000 Marty these playoffs. Not quite to the level of 95 and 03 playoffs Marty, but not anywhere near as bad as the 2001 playoffs Marty. A strong finals could push him to the 95 and 03 levels of Marty though.

I think the only series Marty played particularly well that playoffs was against Pittsburgh. He was just okay against Carolina, Meh against Toronto, great against Pittsburgh and horrible against Colorado in the SCF.

A bunch of really BAD long clean shots from the point were beating him that series. The most memorable was the Adam Foote goal in game 6 and there was one from Ray Bourque earlier in the series that no one really understood how it got in and beat him.

I distinctly remember one long-range goal from Rob Blake at one point...

Marty turned into Jon Gillies there before Jon Gillies even existed.

Fox as a long term pillar. Absolutely.

Shesterkin? maybe I want to jinx him and maybe I don't, but rare is the goalie who goes on a prolonged streak of high end play. Especially behind a team that gives up a lot of shots against.

And on the flip side, they are very much lacking at the center position.
