Who is better as a dman? Hronek or Nurse?

Nurse is not as bad as fans think. He’s between a 3 and a 4. Bad advanced stats and all, but that’s not all there is to hockey. He puts up 30+ points every year, 40+ some years. He skates well and is big and takes on pretty tough minutes. Plays on a team that has historically been bad defensively, so it’s not like he’s dealing with great help to him that can insulate his faults.

But Hronek is better because he’s a legit 2.

Hronek I guess but he was pretty brutal in the playoffs and I think he gets overrated playing with Hughes who is so damn good.

It shouldn't be close with contracts

Nurse has $24 Million in backloaded SB's coming up which makes him impossible to move.

Hronek SB's are easier to stomach and still less over 8 years than Nurses coming up

Problem with a poll like this is people will never and I mean NEVER be able to discard a players salary. In fact most people won't even read the OP, they'll see Nurse vs Hronek and vote with contracts being a factor, just look at the post directly above.

That being said, I think Hronek is the better player even without salaries being considered.

I agree with Hronek as a 2-3, but Nurse would be a solid 5D IMO

One of the glaring iussues with Nurse is he plays too much and tries to do too much. Having him as your 5th best Dman that plays way less would solve a lot of the non-salary problems he causes.

Either way - Hronek is the answer quite easily.

Maybe with another team but I think he's not able to do the things he is good at.

Ironically, I think Vancouver could be a good spot for him in theory, the Canucks defensive expectations are much higher, Desharnais spoke about the difference between the two teams and that it was hard to adjust, I think Nurse could excel in that structure.

Hronek at 9.25 AAV is still better than Nurse at 9.25 AAV by quite a margin. Add in the fact he's RHS RD vs LHS LD, it's not really close.

Now, if you asked who I'd want my team to get PAID to take on at 9.25 AAV... I'm definitely giving consideration to Darnell the lucky lotto ball ATM.
