lol Imagine your skater group being THIS bad that you waste a performance like this. Igor is in fact "better"

Yep, you flip the goalies and the result is worse for the Rags. Dude's gonna be a problem for us for the next decade, hopefully they don't do well the next 3 years when they have the biggest bargain contract in the league.

Losing Kadri is tough for Colorado, their center depth is iffy.

It’s Compher and nothing in the bottom six (well, Helm). Rantanen as the 2C is not the best solution.

The loss of Point hurts too. At least Colorado has dudes to play the position, even if they don’t score goals while doing it. (Which would be helpful tho.)

Cirelli plays a ton, he’s 2nd among forwards in ATOI, and he has 1 goal (5 points) in 17 games. Killorn has no goals (4 points) and Hagel has two goals (5 points).

With the way their young guys up front have developed too they might not be able to really elongate their window once their top guys start to heavily decline. They'll always be at least good because of Igor but if they don't improve their 5v5 play substantially or their young guys don't break out then they're going to struggle to really be contenders

Could be a situation like us with Schneider from 2013-2016, their roster is way better so yeah agreed that they won't be bad but they gotta win before Shesty gets like a 10-11M payday.

And he'll deserve that $10M contract, and then some. If he has any seasons during that contract that are even close to the level of the one he just had, he'll still be underpaid.

I'm jealous as hell that the goddam Rangers have manged to succeed Lundqvist with yet another elite goalie in Shesterkin. Mad respect.

you know, I hadn't looked at any stats or anything from this playoff run. You'd think from the way that people were shoving "the kid line" down our throats that these guys were putting up some tremendous stats.

They COMBINED for 23 points in 20 games between the three of them, and one was a healthy scratch in an elimination game lmao

get the hell out of here

Laf and Chytil actually looked like somewhat useful NHL players on occasion so they were the new Lemieux and Jagr if you ask Ferraro. Kakko made a few nice plays on the boards and wound up getting scratched anyway lol. Same thing with K’Andre Miller, he had some good moments but he’s still a ways away from being a top pairing player and you’d have thought he was Lidstrom 2.0 listening to ESPN.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly but it's tough to win those big contracts considering the Rangers will have Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, Trouba making 34M when Shesty is up. It's the same stuff with McDavid, they're 100% worth their deals but if your team doesn't have the right GM, which I don't think Drury is personally, that's an uphill climb to build a winning roster.

Also the Rangers drafted both Lundqvist and Igor, can't say they got lucky there, well earned.

Fox on the other hand..... :D

Nah it’s still incredibly lucky. If they knew Lundqvist was a first ballot HHoFer or Igor would be capable of putting up like a top 2 goaltending season ever then they wouldn’t have been taken in the 7th and 4th rounds

Even we got somewhat lucky way back when Brodeur was drafted. If anybody had known how good Marty would be, no way we trade down with Calgary, or that Trevor Kidd is the first goalie off the board that year, or that Marty slides to the end of the first round.

The Colorado hate is weird. Like I get that the whole Bourque thing was incredibly lame and stupid, and they denied the devils back to back cups…but that was 21 friggin years ago. If I was making a list of most hated teams/players, they wouldn’t even crack my top 10.
Let me clarify :

THAT is the only reason I dislike that Organization.

Not because they denied us back-to-back Cups but that MANAGEMENT pulled that s--t and we had to be subjected to that nonsense.

I give the Avs all the credit in the world for beating the Devils in 2001 and credit for being an offensive dynamo this season.

But that particular moment (even 2 decades later) still pisses me off.

BTW, someone said that the Avs are a machine...

Me : "And the Bolts AREN'T??"

Bourque was one of the stupidest and most questionable jersey retirements ever (from the Avalanche, not from the Bruins), but I'm way over that.

If we were mature enough to root for the Kings in the 2014 finals, just two years after we lost to them, I think we can get over Colorado 21 years later. Now, if it weren't the Rangers, Devils fans probably wouldn't have been rooting for the Kings in the 2014 SCF, but my point still stands.

Yeah, the Bourque number retirement was really dumb, but I don't have any kind of disliking for them anymore.

They were actually kind of my second favorite team in the late 90's, only because of Claude Lemieux. When Claude Lemieux left, I didn't really root for them anymore and of course it was here that he came back to. I then adopted the Sharks as my second favorite team in 99-00, who I've always been a much bigger fan of than I ever was of Colorado.

I picked Colorado because Claude Lemieux was there and we missed the playoffs in 96, so that was my bandwagon team and I would root for them in the playoffs the next 4 years when we were out. They luckily won the cup the year after us and that was their first year in Colorado. My step brother is from Denver and I went to visit back in 96 and got to see the Devils play the Avalanche (1-0 win where Steve Thomas scored the only goal with about a minute left in regulation) at the old arena a few years before the Pepsi/Ball Arena/whatever was built. That was their first year in Denver and maybe a month after Patrick Roy was traded there.

I loved watching Roy's meltdown in the last 2 games of the 02 WCF, when they were up 3 games to 2 and looked like they were going back to the SCF, but they got Hasek'd in the last two games of the series. Roy had the AWFUL ''Look what I got'' in game 6 where he dropped the puck out of his glove and it was a Red Wings goal after he was showing off. And then he got destroyed in game 7.

It also felt good to see that, it also felt a little good to see them lose to Minnesota in 2003, after having what I think was a 3-1 lead in that series in the first round. After that they didn't really have much success in the playoffs for a VERRRYYYYYYY long time. And Roy retired after that series.

Their best non-goalie player and captain from that team is now their GM (and holy shit he looks so f***in old and decrepit already in his early 50's), but other than that, there's not too many people left that had anything to do with 2001 still left there.

Patrick Roy - I don't know where the hell he is since his brief head coaching stint there not too many years ago. He's probably still a juniors coach in Quebec

Bourque - Probably went back to wherever the hell he was before his very brief stay there

Forsberg - Probably somewhere over in Sweden. He didn't play a game that finals and he may even been out that entire playoffs. I forget?

Hejduk - Probably somewhere over in the Czech

Rob Blake - Current GM for the Kings

Chris Drury - Current GM for the Rags lol

Adam Foote - Apparently he does work there in some kind of role. They were interviewing him on TNT during one of the games in the WCF. His son plays for Tampa, for what it's worth.
Then I guess this is where we differ.

F them(or rather their management for subjecting us to that absolute sham of a Jersey retirement).

I will shed absolutely zero tears if (when?) they fail to win the Cup.

Mad respect?

I'm Mad with Jealousy and I'm pissed off that THEY found a successor and meanwhile we have yet to find a successor to Marty.

It's nice we can enjoy the Cup finals without having to worry about the Rangers potentially winning it all this year. I think they will be competitive for a while but winning the whole thing won't be easy. Of Shesterkin we're to get injured than I wonder how far they would of made it this playoff. He was shaky in the 1st round but he was their best player all playoffs , I think the Rangers were a prime example of needing depth to win those meaningful games. They had moments where Copp , Laff , Chytyll all chipped in but you can't win cups with having just 3 good forwards (Panarin , Zinbinejad & Kreider). I'm looking at this Devils team seeing Hughes , Hischier , Bratt as our top 3 forwards with Mercer , Holtz and possibly Salfkovsky in the near future. That is a deep top 6 if they pan out, not to mention the supporting players like Sharangovich , Zetterlund , Foote , Thompson in the mix.
