Carolina or the Pens will smoke them round 1

Deadline is huge for the Rangers. If they add some depth so they can be a competent 5v5 team I wouldn't doubt them against any team. Even now I don't because they have best player in the world and he plays the one position that can easily steal games

Yeah, they arguably need a top 6 winger and Kakko to come back and not miss a beat from his wrist injury. I still can't see them competing down the middle with PIT and CAR and the Rangers bottom 6 is pretty atrocious.

I Hope so, but I could see them winning a round just due to the fact that they have a superior goalie.

Jarry has played great this season and would even be one of my Vezina finalists if the voting was today, but I don't think he's on the same level as Shesterkin and Andersen probably isn't either, not at this point in his career.

At some point I expect Shesterkin to drop below .940%, but it's possible he breaks the save percentage record this year, which is only 10 years old. And considering the guy who owns that record (a career mediocre goalie that's only still in the league today because of that record), I can't see that being a record that stands an extremely long time. Igor would need a .941% to break it, but with tonight's game he's only played one fewer game so far than Elliott did that year and with tonight's start he's tied Elliott in starts that year.

Brian Elliott having the best single season save percentage is an extremely weird stat. It's only 10 years old, but when you see other goalie stats that didn't stand a long time, it's pretty hilarious when taking into consideration that he wasn't a very good goalie in his career and never played well anywhere other than St. Louis. He hasn't had a single good season in the NHL that wasn't in St. Louis. Not even one measly average year anywhere that wasn't St. Louis.

Patrick Roy's wins record only lasted not even 5 seasons before Marty broke it. And less than 20 years later Fleury actually has a chance to pass Roy for second all time, although it seems unlikely he would do it by next year which is 20 years, but he can still do it in maybe 2 years if he plays 2 more years.

Terry Sawchuk's wins record did last about 30 years before Roy broke it in 2000. And his shutout record lasted about 40 years before Marty broke it in 2009.

While goaltending is the ultimate equalizer, the Rangers are too top heavy right now and their reliance on special teams might come back to bite them. They 100% need to go out and get a forward since you don't magically become good 5v5 overnight once the playoffs start. If they get a RW2, I'd be more willingly to accept their chances to go far this spring. Shesterkin can also pull a 2012 Quick or 2003 JSG so who knows.

The difference between Shesterkin this year and Quick in 2012 is that the Kings were a better team than the current Rangers, at least when Sutter took over they were.

Maybe on 2003 Giguere though. Looking back on it.... That wasn't that good of a team. I think I would have been incredibly pissed if we had lost to them.

Igor is also substantially better than even Quick was. This is very 99 Hasek and the Sabres except the Rangers actually have star skaters as well.

Another ~3 GSAx for Igor. He's such a f***ing freak. He's now over a 1 GSAx/60 at 1.018.

Outside the Calgary games it's a 1.165. They really dominated him. Those are his 2 worst SV% games of the year and 2 of the only 5 he's had total.

I feel like he probably won't get the Hart Trophy, but he absolutely should.

It would also be quite hilarious if McDrai can't win the Hart because they missed the playoffs because of their own shitty goalies.

That would really be a shit stain on Kenny Holland, if his guys missed out on the Hart to a goalie because they missed the playoffs because their own goalies suck ass.

I think the narrative has really started heating up in the last couple weeks and is starting to match his level of play. Even if the Oilers make the playoffs I don't see either of them finishing top 2. As of now it seems to be a 2 horse race between Matthews and Igor but I really think it should be Igor in a runaway then Matthews at 2 with a gap over the rest

As much as I hate the Rags and every player that has or is playing for them, , Sheshterkin is playing umreal. I put $50 on him to win the Vezina durig the off-season. Needless to say , I am feeling very good about my bet. Easy money lol.

Only way that doesn’t cash if he gets hurt which would be terrible for the sport since he’s been amazing to watch even on the Rags.

It’s either him or Matthews for the Hart imo.

Early spoiler alert

I just got done reviewing the Kraken/Maple Leafs game.

What another dazzling performance by Philipp “I’m only bad now because I play for an expansion team and not the Avs or Caps anymore” Grubauer.

3 stoppable goals. Including a really really really really bad game winner in a one goal (empty net not included) game.

I love when Ray Ferraro is doing one of his games. Because he has been calling him out and laughing at his goals every game he does for them.

That expansion team is also good defensively so it can't even be used as an excuse. The guy has just outright sucked.

Ray is arguably the best color guy. It's either him or Mike Johnson

Driedger sucks too.

But that was actually to be expected and MUCH MORE PREDICTABLE than Grubauer.

Driedger had only played 38 games in the NHL before this season? He had two really good seasons with Florida, but the first year he only played 12 games and 11 starts. Including his 3 playoff appearances last year he's played 41 games at age almost 28 over the last 7 years. The 3 games he played for Ottawa over 3 different seasons were ALL RELIEF appearances. Driedger's first start in the NHL was November 30th of 2019 when he was 25.5 years old. And he only even played because they had Montembeault backing up and he couldn't cut it at all. Driedger wasn't even expected to play in the NHL that season.

And then something like 18 or 19 months and about 38 games played later he gets picked up by Seattle and I don't know why they were so big on him.

Chris Driedger is like Keith Kinkaid, only with a higher ceiling, a lower floor and a MUCH SHORTER shelf life.

I don't even think it's fair or accurate to say Driedger had a higher ceiling/peak than Kinkaid, considering Kinkaid had to take over as a starter when the team was fighting for their lives to make the playoffs by one point. I don't even think Driedger had an extended run of getting to play over Bobrovsky at any point in Florida, despite heavily outplaying him.

Koskinen does not deserve to win this game.

I can’t tag him on that third goal, it was a one timer. At least I don’t think I can. Need one more look.

But the first two goals were so lousy. He doesn’t even deserve to have a .900% for this game.

If I was on the Oilers I would take the fine and bitch about this reffing.
