I actually wonder how Hrenak ended up in this bush league.

Decent numbers all over his career, even in the few games with Ontario.

That one bad playoff game must have done it.
A friendly reminder that the organization places players based not exclusively on the limited playing time we see.

They are evaluated on practices, camps, meetings, workouts, work with development coaches etc and then on top of that there's stuff like contract status and organizational depth.

Despite the repeated slander against Vilalta by some esteemed goaltending experts on this board... the Reign were going to start this season with Vilalta and Copley in net. Then the Petersen decision was made.

There's an agreement with Greeneville.
Ingham never made it off SOIR, Parik was allowed to sign with the Colorado Eagles and that left Hrenak (who is a delightful human being but turns 25 in May) to play the bulk of the starts in Greeneville.

I don't know who the people that made the goaltending prospect rankings every year were talking to but they appear to have been wrong.

Slander? Esteemed goaltending experts?

Do you just like reminding the board how clueless all us stupid plebs are now that you're working with the Kings?

No. I do like occasionally reminding people that frequently ignore the same factors over and over and over again and never amend their positions in the face of overwhelming evidence that they're ignoring those factors.

EDIT: And while I will completely cop to being a snarky little jerk in that post the underlying point is solid.

EDIT EDIT: and it wasn't even directed at you

Jesse, it really seems that you, with 80% of the evidence, criticize us who are doing our best with maybe 20% of the evidence.
Then you admit you can only give us say 5% of your 80%.
And you're insulted that we don't do better with our 25%.
I think most of us do damn well with our 25%.
Remember where you came from...

Evaluation is nice and well. In the end it’s SV% what counts and not how they perform at a meeting or practice.

That does not mean Hrenak is the solution but neither is either Copley or Villalta so the question still stands. How come a reasonable young goalie with solid stats end up in the ECHL in favor of a veteran and somebody who certainly hasnt been better statswise.

In the end LA got kinda lucky with Copley but that was not the plan.

Watched bit and pieces yesterday...

Turcotte looked solid but didnt get to to see enough of Krygier- anyone watch yesterday enough to give a scouting report?

How did the new kid look on defense?
Marco Sturm on Cole Krygier’s professional début
He was pretty good overall. You can tell that he has a big body and that he can skate. I think he can see the ice very well too. I think he was nervous, you know, he made a few mistakes. It’s almost always like that. It was his first game and I give him credit. We expect him to get better every day. We liked what we saw today and that’s why we put him out there in overtime.

This isn't me being coy and saying "I know something you don't know" and then refusing to tell you what it is.

This is me repeating truths that the organization has publicly stated.

Players are evaluated on more than just in game performance.

Me being snarky is because I just read an article about Parik and mentioned that he may soon bolster the Kings goaltending pipeline without mentioning the Kings lose his NHL rights on June 1st. Also I have a cold.

Because most teams carry 2 goaltenders.

NHL - Quick/Petersen
AHL - Copley/Vilalta
ECHL - Hrenak

NHL - Copley/Korpisalo
AHL - Petersen/Vilalta
ECHL - Hrenak

I think Hrenak being the starter in Greenville was the plan however.

Again that's not me hinting at anything or being coy that's me looking at the rosters, the contracts and the deployment at the start of the year.

I do.

You sound like the usual football trainer who gives a player a starting spot because he did so well at training. :)

True that but Villalta sucks to a certain point.

It wasn't luck it was yet another very skillful acquisition.
You have to plan on your third guy and even your fourth guy coming up if needed.
Sure you don't plan on it for poor performance by #1,2.
But Blake accounts heavily for injuries as evidenced by him hoarding players until the last possible moment.

Get well Jesse.
You are more than fair.
I appreciate your insight and the thoughtful ways you respond

I'm not the biggest fan of Sturm, but I do wonder how much of this drop off can be attributed to the change in roster. Kupari's no longer down there, Petersen has replaced Copley, Turcotte wasn't injured as much, Spence and Bjornfot were called up and down at various stretches.

So, I'm willing to give him some more time.

I think he looks good, very good for just a few games with the team.
He looks strong, skates well , uses his size to protect the puck, while maneuvering, makes himself available for passes and gets shots off.
Krygier looked good to me as well but didn't stand out as much.
I have high hopes for Laf. Could he be our Killorn ?
