It’s unprofessional to leave mid season over a difference in opinion about team philosophy. And the Reign had a great regular season, so it’s hard to point to an on ice issue for quitting with no notice.

I’m inclined to shit on BLuc because Wrobo bouncing points to their inability to incorporate outsiders into their good old boys club. But there isn’t much to say the Kings did wrong other than letting Stothers go for no real reason other than wishful thinking.
LOL. That's pure genius right there.

Probably was a lot of different things.

My guess is the Kings were probably not very happy with the results of the 20-21 season, both in the standings but especially in the lack of development of some key players. My guess is Wrobo was not happy either and it was a mutual thing. Usually in situations where people take leaves with a lack of any kind of comment or clarity of the situation means there was some kind of mental health issue.

I still think Blake made a huge blunder having Byfield and Turcotte in the AHL as teenagers but Blake probably wanted to place more of the blame on the coach.

Either way, happy that he is back in coaching after whatever it was that caused him to take a leave.

I highly doubt Blake's decisions on where to play prospects are based on who takes the blame if they don't perform. Turned out it wasn't a great move for sure, but it was done because they thought it was best for their development at the time. I think all of us know how the Kings operate by now, and that input from multiple people would have been involved with that decision.

If it was a blame thing they just would have said it was a mutual parting and both would have moved on, that happens a lot in pro sports. Something major probably happened in his life to put things in perspective, it happens to all of us. There were definitely some differences of philosophy between the Kings & Wrobo, if it was a better situation he probably would have stuck it out. It just wasn't worth it to him anymore, it's always easier to quit a job you don't love.

Coaching a tournament team will be a good way to get back in, not a lot of time commitment. Good for him, I always thought he was a solid coach. I did prefer Stothers though, I think his tell it like it is approach worked well with the youth.

Outsider.. curious for your guys opinion. What's the deal on Akil Thomas? At quick glance on paper you look at that Reign roster and you say to yourself Jesus where the hell does the kid fit? He was always a talented player. You look at the numbers, is that more a reflection of the amount of depth there and it just being a numbers game? Not seeing much ice time with all those guys? Is it more that he's having trouble adjusting to the pro league?

He's recovering from double shoulder surgery, so he was a bit out of sorts.

I still think he could be a solid contributor on the third line at the NHL level.

He was one of the Reign's best players at the end, just started getting comfortable again

the double shoulder surgery was a pretty clear setback but I bet he'll push for a depth spot at NHL camp and be one of the Reign's top 3 scorers next year.
I agree completely.

He was definitely back at it by the play offs and was a leader also. They will give him every chance to develop and make the team over the next couple of years as he will be an important piece for us in terms of defining team culture. He is also one of our most underrated prospects, if not the most under rated guy. He played the whole of 20/21 with those shoulder issues which were basically chronic and had affected him for a few years. Given how good he’d gotten in 20/21 once he’d adjusted to pro he’s going to surprise a lot of people.

I remember him saying that the issues affected his physicality he could play and meant he couldn’t fight. I’m paraphrasing but he said he was looking forward to being able to drop the gloves, which he did.

Experts differ where exactly in the top 5 the Kings rank in terms of overall prospect pool. But no one disagrees the Kings by far lead the league in injuries to their prospects. It is hard to think of a top prospect who has not had a significant injury that has interfered with their development time on ice...maybe not Fagemo. But otherwise the list is long and significant (and nausea inducing). Byfield, Turcotte, Vilardi, Clarke, Thomas, Madden.
Unbelievable...and feels a bit haunted or jinxed.
Hopefully the Hockey Gods will have mercy on them and the other prospects going forward,

Well, then we should definitely draft Miroshnichenko. We already know about his 'injury' - he'll fit right in.

don't say that

Oh shit

The best thing I've ever heard about Villalta is that he's a nice guy

Makes the highlight reel once in a while too by making an insane save because he's out of position and reaction time is so slow it looks amazing when he gets there
