quick thoughts...
Vilalta my least favorite prospect. Was the least impressive goalie at the rookie tournie a couple of years ago and my opinion hasnt changed.
Spence- True AHL rookie getting massive ice time and working the point on PP1. Kid is the real deal...not the ceiling of Clarke- but no less than a top 4 dman. Kid plays smart, has good shot, not a liability at D....looking to be absolute 4th rd steal. In redraft any doubt he goes 1st rd?
Vilardi- Kings brass has to be elated. He was legit NHLer as center and now over a PPG in the AHL as a wing. Size, skill, smarts...think the team would be foolish not to call him up for the final playoff run. Trade AA for a pick and give Vilardi that time with Byfield. Size and skill between those two hard to matchup against. As they grow together and get accustomed- once again a brutal matchup for opposing teams with that size and skill. Reminds me a bit of the Legion of Doom with Leclair and Lindros.
Turcotte- his playmaking and smarts is comparable to Vilardis....only difference is size and weight. Think he will be a solid and upper end 3rd/2nd liner but he has got to put on some weight and muscle. He makes sneaky, smart passes and set up a couple of linemates for high quality chances. We know he has the motor and drive- only question mark is the size/weight IMO. Really starting to think the Stoll comparisons accurate.
Moverare- once again Kings brass has to be elated. Was solid enough in NHL callup and now logging massive time in Ontario. Think hes a legit NHL dman just a matter of improving enough to be maybe a top end 3 or 4 dman at ceiling. Surely a lock to be a bottom pairing guy at worst. Given we now have Matta on bottom pairing this is great news.
JAD/Fagemo- stats and youth at AHL level on the higher end. Hard to think JAD isnt going to be NHLer next season and probably is NHLer now on bottom level teams. Fagemo with 16 goals now in 35 games as European prospect and improving on last seasons abbreviated totals- forward depth just absolutely sick. Arguably the strongest forward depth in franchise history. Seriously- I dont remember a time when we had this many legit prospects in the pool with NHL caliber pedigree.
Watching the Kings current play and the depth in the AHL and seeing the most recent drafts...have to give Blake some props. After a brutal start bordering on the Hindenburg-over all franchise depth and momentum clearly on the upswing. Im quite pleased with the development. Brown probably retires this season which opens the door for someone, Going to be some mega interesting camp battles next season, if you can get 1 or 2 solid seasons from Kopi & Doughty- hard to not be positive moving forward the next 2-3 seasons and be in solid shape with Kopis retirement looming. A see Doughty probably being able to be a contributor for at least 3-4 more seasons. Guy has the natural gift and loves the game.
