Big fan of this player going back to his days in Anaheim. He brings something sorely needed on our defense, and having him is going to create trickle down that help other guys like Soucy who will flourish again in a lesser role.

he is rangy always in the right position can move the puck... boxes out guys. if van can resign him to a reasonable contract. the 2nd left side spot is set. the third could either be dpetey for next year if soucy moves.

The be fair, Tanev was older, had trouble staying healthy, and analytically was in decline. Turns out that like Hamhuis there is a fountain of youth waiting for the player after leaving Vancouver.

I am hesitant to comment and jinx things. It seems management don't care about value in acquiring players but care about value in signing players to contracts. I hope we sign M-Petey to a good contract but I can see management holding firm and M-Petey not re-signing.

Yep and if they do get him re-signed (which I think they will) they will have completely remade the blueline. Acquired 2 top 4 guys on the correct side of 30 to compliment the best in the game (one just barely but still plenty of hockey left in MPs legs I think) .

Drafted EP2 and Willander..at this point it looks like both will be regular NHL players next season. That is a hell of a lot of heavy lifting in a reasonable amount of time. Some blips along the way but those can be forgiven with a new MP contract.

I think people forget how there was very, very little in the system when they took over. Benning and his unintentional tanking stripped the farm bare.

His fight card has some pretty tough customers on it. Not that he's a great fighter by any means but if he can provide a little bit of second thought before other teams take runs that's an added bonus.

His fight card has him getting 3% favorable against 97% unfavorable results in his fighting escapades, except against a much smaller domi, that was a draw at best, so I'm not sure who is going to have second thoughts.but hey that's just me.

MP3 will allow us to stop or minimize the 26+ minute nights out of Hughes. Refreshing/exciting to know that if we can sign him long term, 45/60 minutes of the game we have 43 or 29 on the ice.

I was totally getting Swedish Chris Tanev vibes. Maybe not as much devil-may-care shot blocking, but the same sort of no-foot-wrong, cerebral defensive game.

Mathieu Olivier would be such a great fit here and is exactly what we need for our 4th line but he's going to get paid out the wazoo as a young UFA this summer.
