It revisionist history to think how different The Kings would have looked had Byfield not gotten injured in preseason, but it makes the future look a tad brighter with a light at the end of a dark tunnel.

The kid might not have lit the lamp much but he was deadly in every game he played in. You could see the chances coming, the confidence in taking the puck hard to the net, and having him anchor a line to go along with the other 3 centers really help to balance out all 4 lines.

Kopitar
Danault
Byfield
Lizotte
Kopitar's all but done. Within the next two years it'll be:

Byfield
Turcotte/Vilardi
Danault
Lizzotte

At least that's what I'm hoping. If Kopi picks up his play, I could see him sticking around til '24, but at this rate, the guy is done. Should be traded when Byfield's ready for the top line.

Vilardi's got a bit of angry face going lately

"Yay, I scored"
Kempe level excitement.

Yeah but Vilardi has some sick hands. He can make plays that a lot of other players can't. He is a special player.
Josh Ho-Sang has some sick hands too, and it didn’t amount to shit.

Hands quite possibly could be the least important skill an NHL level player has.

I’m far from writing off Gabe, but anointing him a success based on one tier of skill is misguided at best.
