Kempe/Mersch continue their goal scoring troubles, Brodzinski now is tied for lead in points on the team. Mersch only has one goal in his last 13 games, but has 8 assists in that time frame. Kempe has been scoreless in his last 7 games.

Brodzinski is having a fine season so far, looks like a gamer, night in, night out.

They finally changed the scoring on the Hensick goal from Friday night and rightfully gave it to Mersch. It was clearly his goal. Mersch had a good game last night also. Kempe still struggling. Only 5 points all season. Brodzinski is a gamer with a great shot, would fit in nicely in the top six, and should rightfully be ahead of Kempe on the NHL bandwagon, along with LaDue for next year. Kempe has a ways to go.

Good for Mersch then, he is still picking up assists, so that is good.

The Reign need Mersch to get going, goal wise.

I agree on Kempe, the guy is still lacking some fundamentals with his game.

Hopefully this year, Kempe irons them out.

Hey, Ted Purcell's on the way.

Hopefully, he can wipe the tears away and
get playing and scoring again.

He could still be damn good down there, if he wants to.

Every cheap shot, charge, and elbow he's got, and more, he sure does.

I agree that he is super-dirty.

He needs to clean-up his game, IMO, because he does have potential
as a shutdown D-Man.

He needs to use Willie Mitchell as a role-model---A very tough player, but one who generally resisted bad penalties because of his discipline.

MacDermid, with added discipline, could be damn good someday.
Hope he grows up.

Ted Purcell scores the unassisted goal in OT to win it for The Reign tonight.

"Big Ted" is already a real factor for Ontario.

IMO, Ted can be a difference-maker down there.

It's kind of like that famous Milton quote from "Paradise Lost"-----

Perhaps it is better to "Rule in Hell" (i.e. AHL) than to
"serve in Heaven" (NHL).

Haven't seen him this year but he'll never reach Willie Mitchell level. His skating is not anywhere close to Mitchell level. If he reachs Greene's level I would be happy, but I don't see the same poise with the puck or positioning. I really don't think he will be an NHL player.

Fair point, especially considering his hit last season on the Gulls' Matt Bailey. I'll qualify my previous post. If Kurtis MacDermid can take that recklessness toward other players out, he would be a favorite player of mine. I keep seeing the words "driven" and "hard worker" when reading articles about him. I respect most unselfishness, a strong work ethic, and the ability to adapt, so players like Trevor Lewis are my kind of players.

Justin Auger also has flown under the radar somewhat.

Before the next game starts, I wanted to reference this interview, since Stothers is always good for a chuckle:

Stothers: Given the importance of the position, I would definitely agree that having a proven AHL goalie at your disposal night, after night, is beneficial to the entire team. Not many teams rotate their goalies like they rotate their tires. For far too long we were trying to win Daytona on a spare. Not recommended for long distance driving or a 68-game hockey season.

Also,

I can't emphasize enough how badly I want Stothers to be the next head coach in LA. Hahaha!

It worked. Reign lost in OT but came back from a 4 goal hole to get the extra point.

Mike Amadio is showing how much of a hard worker he is on the ice. The Kid just never stops working hard.

Amadio is the real deal, Kid reminds you so much of Mike Richards.

LoL, are you suggesting Amadio's NHL career will be over by the time he reaches age 30? :naughty:

Some quick updates.

Amadio is on fire, 5g 6a in his last 12 games.

Kempe finally scored a goal, and got off that 9 game skid.

Mersch has 3 goals in his last 4 games.

That's good for the reign to get some guys out of slumps. Stothers is one hell of a coach, an NHL team is going to try and pluck him at some point.

Mike Amadio, Jonny Brodzinski, keep the title of best players in the AHL so far.

You never know, that could happen. But couple things Amadio has over Richards.

One is size, Amadio is quite bigger, other is Amadio is not going to throw his body around reckless like Richards did for so many years.

I would accept a Mike Richards career trajectory for one of our 20 year old prospects in a heartbeat.

I get the hype on Kempe, he's got mad skills. But Amadio, I think, fits the mold of a typical King - size, smarts, and defensive acumen. He's got some good skills of his own as well.

If Amadio continues to improve the Kings could have Kopitar/Carter/Amadio/Dowd down the middle. It would be a solid group for the last push with this core a couple years down the road. If one of Kempe/Brodzinski/Watson pans out as a scorer, then they would really be in business.

I think the Kings system is really underrated, but it's understandable because it's filled with under the radar types of guys rather than big names.

Purcell is clearly making a difference so far.

He gives the team a crucial extra measure o scoring depth, IMO.

Hope he keeps it up.

If Stothers gets hired by another team, I will be bigtime pissed.
He's ours, damnit!

Mike Amadio stays red hot.

6G 6A 12p in his last 14 games played.

The Reign's comeback after a poor start last night fell short. lost 5-4

Puck luck was the Reign's friend in their Tuesday night victory over the Gulls (two broken sticks and a weird carom of a puck that looked to be headed out of play but stayed in), but that's what happens when you have such a massive edge in possession and SOG. It was a typical Reign victory over the Gulls - tight in the score, but less so in the game play. Also typical was the bulge they got in penalty calling (four PP to the Gulls' one). To be clear, that wasn't the reason they won, but I'll tell you, it's very frustrating as a fan of the opposing team (even through the orange-colored glasses, admittedly) to see the inequities in the severity of foul that it takes to get a call against the Reign, versus the tick-tack that got the Reign many of their power plays.

Campbell didn't have to be Budaj, as in the 2nd and 3rd the Reign just suffocated the Gulls' chances.

It was nice to see Scuderi being the calming veteran presence on the blue line, as compared to the behind-the-play shenanigans that MacDermid couldn't help but engaging in (though less so than in other games I've seen him play).

LaDue (I think I've got the right player there) has a cannon of a shot from the blue-line -- at the AHL level, I wouldn't be surprised to see several assists manufactured from that. I'm not sure his play would translate to the NHL level, but he appears to be a good asset at the AHL level.

Auger wasn't a giant factor on the scoresheet, but his size is an undeniable asset whenever he's on the ice. As I've said a couple of times, I can't help but yell "HODOR!" every time he makes a play.

ETA: I'm a little disappointed in my fellow Gulls fans who booed a guy on the Jumbotron for wearing a Kings hat, despite the fact that he was also wearing a Gulls' sweater.
