A win is a win. Got tickets for tomorrow vs Hungary. Want to see more goals and less dumb penalties by Kristián Pospisil. Also a bit more in game coaching by Ramsey. IMHO he's great at picking the team, not so good at the actual coaching at this point. Frankly, he's too old for this. Pushing 74.

Such a disappointing first two periods. Simply not enough rhythm and too sloppy. Not using our skill advantage

Slovenia gave up 5 out of 6 penalties in the offensive zone in the game against Latvia.... so far.

Score Latvia 4:2 Slovenia - 10min to go

Wikipedia still lists Russia as conditionally qualified (if the IIHF unbans them), but lists no plans for if they aren't allowed in. At this point it seems very unlikely they will be in it. Has there been any plans announced for qualification for the last spot? Are they just going to give it to the highest ranked team that didn't qualify?

I really hope they let them play for it.

54 SOG for Team Latvia

Tells you everything you need to know about that game.

The Ukraine game should be an easy one as well. Get some chemistry going and avoid injuries before the match up with France.

Yes, the best second-placed team gets it (based on points, then goal dif, and goals scored - if necessary).

Source in Latvian, with some use of GoogleTranslate should be clear.

Competitively, obviously Russia playing would be the best outcome, but this isn't too bad. I think in all three groups there is one likely second place team that could be deserving of a place and they may now have their chance (Austria, France, Norway/Denmark)

For 2nd day in a row it's hard to call Kazakhstan the better team yet they are winning and had one more excellent chance.

We don’t have possession oriented forwards, it’s always been a huge issue. Thomas and Michael Raffl was the closest thing back in the day but Thomas has regressed and Michael retired. So even though we have the puck a lot we don’t do anything with it, and it’s annoying but also a very frequent occurrence when we are the “better” team and how we lost to GBR for example. We really struggle when not counterattacking.

This is why I felt Bischofberger wasn't a great addition. He is just more of the same. No pressure in front of the net, just skate in circles and shoot from the perimeter. We've had most of the shots and most of the possession but they've had the better chances.

France leading 2-0 after first period. Both goals by Texier. Slovenia looking tired after giving it all yesterday.

At last a clear look at the net for Austria and a goal, lovely finish by Herburger back across the goalie. Still onus on them to win in regulation of course.

Bigger picture aside, Austria's problem today is nothing else but execution. Ever so often they get Kazakh defense running around but just can't put that dagger in.

Aaaand it goes back the other way.
