USA lost because Canada deserved to win. No doubt. Just as there is no doubt that the ref gave Canada a huge break after a stupid, choke style penalty but for some reason didnt feel the same bizarre generosity towards the US after a honest penalty.

The loss would be bad enough without the wave of animosity towards the US from Canadian fans on the main boards.

Studies have shown, 93% of US citizens like Canada, a feeling which is reciprocated by only 53% of Canadians. Not exactly fitting the stereotype of friendliness, modesty and hospitality.

It just irks me. The countries are on amazing terms. Why be a jerk about sports?

Agreed Fitzy..

This game should have never made it to overtime. Up 2-0 with 4 mins left to go, you got to shut it down man...

93% of US citizens like Canada like a Pejorative Slured younger brother, though. There's a difference.

As far as the animosity in sports goes, how often do teams that play as many high-leverage games as Canada and USA without being animosity between the fans?

I think a lot of it also comes from the arrogance some fans show towards the game and it being "their" sport

Never.

Canada won when they tied it up. There was no way USA was going to regroup after that choke job. They had it, they had complete control and let Canada will themselves back in to it. Unacceptable and weak.

I'm sure that can be frustrating. But no matter if it's Rangers/Islanders, Canada/Russia, Yankees/Red Sox, the dumbest fans are always the most vocal.

Canada has to feel good about something. Hockey is really all they have.

It is their sport, there is nothing wrong with that. Their country lives and dies by hockey. It's not their fault the USA is obsessed with football and baseball. Puke.

Let's not get political here. Canada does have a lot going for it as a country. A lot. This isn't Columbia where if their soccer team fails they have nothing to go home to.

its not political at all. He said that Canada is far ahead of the US in so many areas. I asked which areas he/she thinks that is true. Canada is a nice country but I really don't see anything they are doing north of the border as superior to the US. Except hockey

such as ?

For what it's worth...

The Pierson report had Canada ranked 10th in education. United States 17th.

The OECD Better Life Index has Canada ranked 3rd. United States 5th.

The "all Canada has to proud of is hockey" nonsense is just that, nonsense.

To each his own, I suppose. With the exception of this time of the year ever 4 years, I feel more at home in Canada than I do in the US (notably, I grew up an hour from Ottawa, just inside the US border)

I learned around the 2007 WJC to just avoid the International board at all costs. Nothing good comes from it, win or lose. I don't really get it either.

The most obvious is their healthcare. I didn't mean to derail this thread though.
