For what it's worth...

The Pierson report had Canada ranked 10th in education. United States 17th.

The OECD Better Life Index has Canada ranked 3rd. United States 5th.

The "all Canada has to proud of is hockey" nonsense is just that, nonsense.

I actually watched a talk show how these "studies" that purport on the U.S. being behind on "education" doesn't tell the fullest picture, and the show had one of the smartest individuals defending the U.S.:

He actually pointed how the most successful and innovative people on the planet..were either high school or college drop-outs, if anything, it just shows that people are more apt to taking exams and regurgitating what has been either said or done as opposed to thinking outside the norm.

Also, what's considered "failure" here would be classified as passing elsewhere.

The problem with US education is the the public sector that sets the curriculum and agendas values memorization over independent thinking. Governments don't want people to be able to think on their own.

(Look at the ex-mod violating board rules and helping derail a thread )

#Isles GM Garth Snow spitting mad over Tavares' Olympic injury: "Are the IIHF or IOC going to reimburse our season ticket holders now?"

Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday 10m
More Snow: "It's a joke. They want all the benefits from NHL players in Olympics and don't want to pay when our best player gets hurt."

Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday 8m
Snow: "It wouldn't matter if we were 10 points up on a playoff spot or 10 points out. We lost our best player and he wasn't playing for us."

Is he vetted?

SNow was a hothead when he was a player, but I understand his irritation.

The number of key injuries in this tournament is really bad news for people who want to see NHL in 2018.

Is he vetted?

No, but he did make good points. He didn't say that more money shouldn't be allotted towards education, just that exam failures aren't the be all, end all as everyone would like to believe.

35 million people vs. 314 million. 75% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border.

And I didnt say proud of. The poster said they were way ahead of the US in so many areas.

When your entire country is the population of a few states they probably should be even higher rank globally compared to the US just saying.

Can we please bring this back to Olympic Talk? Other matters can be discussed in the OT thread.

Injuries are a part of the game, unfortunately. These players love representing their countries in the Olympics, and it's great exposure for the NHL's players in my opinion. Every four years it's the sports worlds biggest stage and these are the worlds best athletes representing the sport. It's a huge event within the Olympics and the players should be there in 2018. I hope they are.

Not just a part of the game, but a part of life. Its a risk of being a pro athlete and depending on your body for your livelihood. Would it make a difference if Tavares or Zuccarello had injured themselves at home, or say getting into a cab?

You can't keep the players protected in a bubble while they're not on the ice. Risks are risks.

I think there was an athlete who got injured getting out of one.

Question for the stream. The dumbass ****ing NBC feed keeps getting delayed because of all of the buffering. Then they idiotically put twitter updates on the right of it that are real time. Is there any way to turn those off? Are these idiots an NBC that ****ing stupid?

Just cover that part of your monitor in duct tape. Boom problem solved.

Are Detroit livid over losing Zetterberg for the rest of the season, basically making sure that they will miss the playoffs for the first time in 20+ years? No.

Put a sock in it Snow. You were never making the playoffs and will only end up with a better draft pick anyway. As long as it doesn't affect Tavares in the future it won't hurt your team in the long run one bit, it will likely help you.

Though break for Tavares though.

If he would have made this point before Tavares got hurt I wouldn't consider this similar to a toddler throwing a fit, but he didn't...

Why would the season ticket holders need reimbursing? Are the isles unable to ice a team without JT? And even if they did need it, wouldn't it make more sense for team canada to pay? The IOC just organised the event, team canada picked him and he chose to go.

Not much makes me smile more than stupid rants, especially from an org who had many of its employees and fans up in arms because another of their players was overlooked for the same event!

Dumb logic is dumb. The IOC and IIHF didn't force Taveres to participate. If anyone should be obliged to reimburse the fans, its Tavares.

BREAKING: The IOC has agreed to reimburse the Islanders season ticket holders for home games missed by Tavares at a total cost to them of $145.

If anyone should reimburse the STH it should be Snow for icing that awful team.

He said STH, what he meant was; are you going to reimburse our team the rest of his salary for this season?

This comes off more fan friendly, but he did just unintentionally pack the teams backs before the season is done.

Snow is smarter than I thought. Now they can suck without being forced to pay Tavares.

Zetterberg was hurt before the Olympics.

What is the worst injury besides Tavares, Zuccs finger injury? Nobody is mentioning all the lingering injuries that players have been able to take care of during these two weeks. Hank Sedin for example, instead of missing some 8-9 games with his ribs and putting a nail in Vancouvers POs aspiration, he will be perfectly healthy when play resumes. Detroit will get Franzen back.
