I am late to the party, but the U.S. Russia game is why I love hockey. Way better than an NHL game.

I wish the NHL played on that size surface. It accentuates the skill and beauty of the game.

Bet no one can name many defensemen they would take over McDonagh.

Karlsson. With a K

Remarkable how far the US program has come in the past 10-15 years. From beating legitimate contenders on a wing and a prayer, to becoming legitimate contenders themselves. Part of it has to do with Czech Republic and Finland not producing as much talent as they used to. But, the US has really done a fantastic job. The amount of talent coming out of NCAA is noteworthy.

The Swedish brass is always raving about everything the US is doing.

The Swedes have a joke about defenseman Erik Karlsson: He has one speed, and that's wrecking ball.

They are on him about slowing down in practice, though, because Monday morning at Bolshoy Training Rink, Karlsson knocked down star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist giving chase to Loui Eriksson, and wiped out star scorer Daniel Alfredsson.

"That's a tough thing," Alfredsson said, "because he really wanted to catch Loui on the breakaway and threw himself down, and Henrik was trying to make the save, and they just pummeled each other. We can laugh at it now because it wasn't too serious, but it gave everybody a big scare."

The incident happened near the end of practice. Lundqvist was crouched on the ice for a few minutes after the hit, then skated off to watch from the boards. Lundqvist declined to talk to reporters, but coach Par Marts said Lundqvist is fine.

"Such things happen all the time," Marts said. "No problem."

The Rangers will be thrilled when they read this in a few hours.

I'm sure its been mentioned but Sandis Ozolinsh still playing too, Captain of Latvia, he's 65 years old

It's been reported in Norwegian media that Zucc is sitting out todays practice with a swelling on his left hand after yesterdays game. It's apparently still more likely that he will play against Russia than not, so the injury can't be that serious. Hopefully they will not gamble with him if there is a chance of further injury by playing.

Hehe this is a reach.

Hockey players face a risk when they get up in the morning, even on off-days ask Leetch. Its the same for everyone.

The NHL can opt to get the publicity from the OG in 2018 or they can opt to not get it and play the All-star game in Calgary. The NHL can't let Daly make this decision, they need to get professional advisors in and advice them on the call. Is it best for them to get the publicity or not?

The NHL has potential to grow abroad. The NHL has potential to grow in NA. If you don't go, you look 6 month ahead. If you go you look 10-20 years ahead. And you never know what is going to happen. Who knows how events could play out, all of a sudden the US are playing Russia infront of Putin in 6 days. Look what miricle on ice did for the game in the US. We don't know how things will play out, maybe the US and Russia are irrelevant. People are watching Netflix right now, not national TV. When you strike a TV-deal in 12 years, what audience will matter? Citizens in Buffalo? Or will the scene be international? 250k live in Buffalo and 9m in Switzerland. How will the world look in 12 years? 12 years ago you could listen to NHL games on radio on the web, now you can watch it in HD on demand whenever you want where you want. I watch the games on the way to work. I ride the train for 40 minutes to the office in Stockholm. A month ago Thomas Sandström was on the same train as me, I was watching the Rangers play and he saw my computer and smiled and nodded. 12 years ago people read newspapers, now the avg people reading a newspaper is like 67 years old and some papers that sold 4 million copys has hit 500k. Nobody believes that we will see paper newspapers in 10 years even remotely to the extent we still see today. Will there be TV-channels?

The countries in the OG has built for this for 4 years. The hockey tournament is large in everyone one of them 'cept Austria. The schools are off in Slovenia so the people can watch hockey, factories shut down. Slovenia is 10x as big as Buffalo. Zucc is the most popular athleet in Norway, to put things in relation their top skier can be compared to Michael Jordan. They will mention him in 100 years when people put together lists of best athleets ever, Northug, but Zucc is more popular.

Bill Daly can look at hard numbers. This year and next years. Would it have been better to go or stay at home when they shut the books this summer? The same will apply in 2018. There will however be a NHL in 2015 too, in 2019, in 2030. 2050. What is best for the NHL, to get the publicity or to not get it? 2 weeks in February. When you sit there in 2025 and ask yourself why the NHL stopped acting on the world stage, how strong will your arguments sound RB? Yiii, Hank had to catch his breath on the bench in 2014. Don't you remember? Duh.

These are the kid of things to happen in a short intense tournament.

Kesler, Kopitar, Barkov, Zetterberg, Kopecky also banged up. Maata has taken a beating.

Zuc's almost done so he'll have about a week to recover.

Henrik that happens to him every once in a blue moon. He's tough, he'll be fine. I wish he had a little more Billy Smith in him and just started taking out ankles.

Hagelin might have to wear a cage for a bit. We'll see.

I don't know what is wrong with Hagelin. Is it really the mouth? It seemed like people were checking out his skates, then he leaves the game and don't come back. Could it be a cut?

Zucc has a classic swollen hand after a slash. No broken bone. Maintainance day for him. Hardly noteworthy. Hank lost his breath.

But...but...Katey Stone said anyone could win this tourney RT @cotsonika: U.S. women up, 3-0. Shots, 26-0. In first. Really. Poor Swedes.

Jeeeebuz.

Finally a confirmation about Zucc´s hand:

The puck hit Zucc´s hand during the game, and he got treatment during the game. He finished the game without any trouble.

The hand swelled during the night, and sat out the norwegian practice. He, amongst a few other players, did bicycle training in stead.

The national team´s doctor Ole Fosse describes the injury as not serious.

- There is no fracture. A puck hit his hand and we are resting him today to make him ready for tommorow.
- But he was not able to practice today?
- There is no use provoking it today.
- How are the chances for him playing against Russia?
- They are good. It hurts a little and it swelled during the night, and he has trouble getting a good grip, but we think he´ll be fine.

IMO he should not play against Russia, a game team Norway will lose, so there is no point sacrificing players in a pointless game.

He should be fit for playing against Chicago the 27th.

Karlsson. With a K

He said "many" not "any". Obviously even the most diehard NYR fan would be silly to argue McD is the absolute best D man in the world but there aren't many who are above him. His offense would certainly hold him behind guys who are roughly just as good as he is defensively. But it's not a massive gap anymore and that's kind of nice.

It's being widely reported that after EK crased Henrik he got in Henrik's face and said "Tell Boyle I said 'Hi'." It's even on espn and yahoo.com's main page. Big stuff and all these big sites are redirecting to HFboards too.

Personally it wouldn't bother me at all if the NHL pulled out of the Olympics after this year. I'm sure the players wouldn't be happy about it but even so…You want your players in--they want in then be prepared to pay the price if one or more come back hurt and not 100%. A major injury to Lundqvist would be catastrophic to the Rangers this year. Zuccarello, Stepan, Nash, McDonagh would have a huge effect as well--Callahan and Hagelin less so. The IIHF is not paying the players a dime--in the case of those players playing for NHL teams--their NHL teams are paying the players and taking all the risk for a championship that has nothing to do with the NHL. It's a little bizarre to me.
