as the #3, the road would have gone thru hank and sweden so that wouldn't have been much easier...

the big change in a negative way for usa is that they now get the winner of czech republic/slovakia instead of switzerland/latvia...of course the czechs and slovaks weren't very good in the opening round.
 
Winner of Canada/Finland would meet United States in the semi's. Loser of Canada/Finland would meet Sweden in the semi's. Both assume no upsets along the way. Gotta root for Finland here.

Even with Hank, Sweden without Zetterberg and H Sedin would be preferable to Canada.

At the end of the day if you want to win, you gotta beat great teams.
 
Canada has to deal with the Swiss before we get a Canada/United States semi-final. United States will also get last change against everyone but Sweden (in the finals, if they get there).

1. Sweden
2. USA
3. Canada
4. Finland
5. Russia
6. Switzerland
7. Czech Republic
8. Slovenia
9. Austria
10. Slovakia
11. Latvia
12. Norway

Knock Out Round:
Slovenia/Austria vs Sweden
Russia/Norway vs Finland
------------------------------------
Switzerland/Latvia vs Canada
Czech Republic/Slovakia vs United States
 
Canada isn't playing any better than the US, Russia, or Sweden. They can toss names around all they like, what matters is the performance.

Well, the way it shook up today was it was going to be either Canada or Sweden in the semis (assuming no upset). Not a great scenario any way you slice it.

Shouldn't look past any games though. The Swiss could certainly upset the Canadians. I like the US's chances against either Slovakia or the Czech Republic though.
 
The top four teams are pretty much guaranteed to have two hard games. Some have three. Canada will likely have to deal with the Swiss. Finland will likely have to deal with Russia. I love the idea of potentially meeting Russia in the GMG.
 
I think Russia will be in trouble if they don't break up their top-6. I mean they have Ovi, Malkin, Kovy, Radulov and Semin in there. Talk about overkill. Those players are individualists. Put one of them with Datsyuk, leave one with Malkin and put the other wingers with Anisimov or Tereshenko.
Same goes for the PP. Datsyuk, Kovy, Ovy, Malkin and Markov on their #1 unit. Break it up. Spread the scoring to try to capitalize on the oppositions 3rd defensive pairings.

Just fyi, I'm plenty happy if Bilyaletdinov won't try this. I'd chuckle if Russia went out in the quarters. I don't want a bunch of egomaniacs to win an Olympic team competition.
