Russia clinches 5th overall. USA has clinched either 2nd or 3rd (depending on Canada-Finland score). USA cannot face Russia again until Gold medal game.

Canada-Finland better go to OT, otherwise the US has a really good chance of getting beat by Hiller and the Swiss.

I don't think 'really good' is how I would describe the chances of the US losing to the Swiss.

They do need to play better going forward, however.

Yeah Stepan not getting much time and taking short shifts for the most part...not sure why Bylsma keeps running out his top line when up 5-0 and under 10 minutes left...give some of these other guys some time, they're still better than everyone but Kopitar on Slovenia. MIght as well let these guys have some fun

Still don't really like McDonagh on the right but it says something about the coaching staffs trust in him that they keep putting him out there on the right even with partners other than Suter

One thing it says for me is that there is a shortage of guys on the right side that they have any real confidence in.

Actually, Russia could even back their way into a top-4 bye position if Finland beats Canada by 6+ or Canada beats Finland by 7+. Obviously very slim chance of either of those happening but not out of the realm of possibility. Either way they can't go higher than 4th so it still stands that USA-Russia rematch cannot happen until Gold medal game.

Switzerland would be a bad quarterfinal matchup, for sure.

Yeah for anyone, but the US is real good.

But if anything is obvious this tournament it is that the CLUB teams (Latvia, Switzerland and Slovenia) is getting better in relation to the best nations. I call them club teams because they have chemistry like a club team, more or less.

But that is especially obvious against the struggling teams. If you are a bit hesitant in your game, they will expose you. I mean, the Swiss pwned Sweden and Latvia created more than Sweden in that game but their PK did their in.

The US aren't struggling. They are good to get in to the net. I don't think the Swiss will disturb the US.

Teams 5 through 12...

5. Russia
6. Swiss
7. Czech
8. Slovenia
9. Austria
10. Slovakia
11. Latvia
12. Norway

Poor Zuccarello. Only possible upset I see there is #9 Austria over #8 Slovenia. Czech vs Slovakia should be fun.

If Canada wins today in regulation, the US path to GMG goes likely through Switzerland an Sweden. I see Russia beating Finland in a 4-5 matchup.

I think you have Shattenkirk and...that's about it. Actually, Martin has been good, can't complain about him, but Carlson doesn't seem to have the coaches trust and honestly yeah I'm not enamored of him. He has some of the same issues as Del Zotto (to compare 2008 draft picks) in that he makes questionable defensive decisions and doesn't read the play as well as you'd like, but at the same time that's not to say he's a bad player...

That can't be a goal, right?

Considering the puck was ON TOP of the net, isn't that an obvious high-stick?

They're trying to make sure he hit the puck and not the net, dislodging the puck. I think he hit the puck but every angle looks different.

Call me crazy but isn't isn't the netting attached to the middle of the crossbar, with the weight of the puck, mesh, rings and bottle the net is bowed down if he just quickly made contact while the puck was sitting on the mesh his stick blade couldn't have been above the crossbar...

That's my thought process as well.
