I mean, if Teemue Selanne goes out of his way to tell you to stay on your feet, you stay on your feet. How many players have done that to Crosby in his career. One day a ref needs to grow some balls and call that ****.

Jagr called him out on his bs when we played em in the playoffs

on Jarkko Immonen.. its a shame he never gave the NHL another chance... he did have good stats in the AHL... maybe he could have been a solid 3rd liner. always liked him as a prospect...

can someone explain how the standings work in the olympics? USA has a bye now? how many teams make the "playoffs"?

After the preliminary round, the teams are ranked 1-12.

Teams 1-4 get automatic berths to the quarterfinals. Teams 5-12 play a qualification round game.

Winner of 8/9 plays 1

Winner of 5/12 plays 4

Winner of 6/11 plays 3

Winner of 7/10 plays 2

He is a bit on the slow side, and while not weak defensively, he just is not a bottom two line winger.

He is a good hockey player for sure, but not ideal for the NHL and it's not unusual that players like him retire with "only" and all star career in Europe behind him.

all 12 teams advance...the top 4 teams get a bye.

#8 slovenia vs #9 austria

#2 faces the winner of 7/10
#3 faces winner of 6/11
#4 faces winner of 5/12

they already got extra credit by getting 3 points for winning in regulation, its not a tie breaker which would give them credit for it again

tie breakers
1)# of points
2)head to head record
3)goal differential

tied in points and they didn't play each other, so it goes to goal differential.

So even though the Swiss have more regulation wins they are behind Russia? It goes points then goal differential?

1. Higher position in their group
2. Higher number of points
3. Better goal differential
4. Higher number goals scored
5. Better 2013 IIHF Ranking

Applied:

1. Swiss (2nd pos) = Russia (2nd pos)
2. Swiss (6 pts) = Russia (6 pts)
3. Swiss (+1 GD) < Russia (+3 GD)

Minor nit because it doesn't affect the answer but the above tie-breakers are for determining position within group play, not position for playoffs.

Got it, thank you both.
