The only player more amazing than Quick in that shoot out was Oshie....and that is saying something.

Wow....just wow.

What's with the #Free Miller stuff? Quick is awesome.

Quick plays so far out of his net it's scary at times. He can make that first save but he's in no position to do anything else if the rebound doesn't go to a harmless area of the ice. He also has so much ice to cover if he has to move laterally that he can't stay in position since he needs such a strong push off and slides so far across the ice. See how many times he went sliding out of position while moving across and turned his head to watch the puck go wide, it's nerve wracking.

Now part of that is being used to Lundqvist's style of always looking in control and in position and minimal movement, but obviously Lundqvist sometimes gets beat over the shoulder move often since he plays deeper.

The other part is that this generally works for Quick because he plays for a very good defensive team that clears away rebounds and helps him out a lot with that aggressive style.

So...it generally works btu it's nerve wracking especially after being used to Lundqvist's style.

I generally like Miller's style more

Bylsma constantly mixing up his pairings is annoying though I get the whole "short tournament gotta try to find something that works"

I'm not sure McDonagh struggled, he just didn't look as comfortable as normal. I think the US woudl be much better served keeping him on the left and with someone like Shattenkirk.

The angles are different. He missed on a couple of his passes that would not have been a problem on the left side. He also got caught flat footed on at least one dump in that he booted back into the neutral zone instead of handled with his stick which led to a pretty good scoring chance by the Russians.

Basically though he did really really well considering the calibre of players he was facing and this was the first time I remember him ever playing the right. One might call it a baptism under fire and say he held his ground.

First time I remember seeing McDonagh playing right side in a game. Struggled a bit with it. Callahan played pretty well. Kesler probably with a broken finger. Canucks fans are probably not too happy about that. Quick played really well. Oshie the shootout specialist.

I thought McD was great outside of that one PK where he let the Russian (Radulov?) just stand in front of the net. I don't know how you thought he struggled. I thought he was the best US D-man, until that second goal.

They need to change the shootout rule.

the 18 best American skaters in the world, and only one can be counted on to score in a shootout.

I could understand if you want to use one player again after the 3 shooters, but this?!

I'm excited and I thought it was funny, but had we lost, I'd be pissed..but still would have found it funny.

Somebody post Oshie's Wikipedia page, lmao it says Oshie is an American hero, Vladimir Putin has challenged him to a hell in a cell match at the next WrestleMania

I hope so. Callahan and McDonagh were terrific representatives of America and the Rangers today.

Callahan saved a goal with his backchecking. I thought he was better than a fair number of players including Parise who has been very quiet.

Parise has been a total non factor so far. Disappointing. JvR, Kessel, Kane, and Pavelski have been our best forwards.

Kane and Kessel's arrogance helps them in a short tourney with new teammates. They have the decisiveness to take the puck and do something with it.
