OK so what's the next thing?

We need forwards as well. I get nobody liked Engvall here but he is a solid 15-20 goal guy who could play PK, PP, 5v5 and was defensively responsible. We need someone that can put up that sort of production. And no you can't just automatically slot in Knies and assume he's gonna excel right away.
Engvall 17 playoff games: 0 goals. Might as well play Carleton ffs.

Marner has 2goals in 3playoffs. But a lot more assist with 16 vs 3.

Id like a player who are just ok(therefor cheep) in the regular season but steps up in the playoffs.

Hard to score in the playoffs if you're not either: (1) highly skilled; or (2) physically aggressive and willing to drive the net.

Engvall is big, but he's soft, and he has some skill, but not enough to overcome the lack of time/space in the playoffs. This applies to Kerfoot as well who has struggled to produce in the playoffs.

Could we be after Chychrun? We have those two firsts for that trade and depth pieces to play around. Trade away Gustafsson and Kerfoot for picks, then trade for Chychrun. We could almost fit Chychrun and McCabe inside Muzzins contract, which goes to LTIR for next season.

This TDL has been wild. Almost too wild for my liking.

That would be almost funny!

I think Chychrun would be the final piece to put us over the top. Would make the PP so much better and instantly become our best D.

Robertson + 2x 1sts for Konecny
Holl for a mid-round pick
Kerfoot for a mid-round pick
Gustafsson for a mid-round pick
Knies signs for the playoffs
Konecny, who would be a good addition, has 2 yrs remaining at $5.5 million. Might be difficult to fit him in with his cap hit. Also, I think 2 first round picks plus Robertson (probably only worth a 3rd round pick at best now) might be a little high, and we would obviously have to use the 1st we just got in the Sandin trade, and then use our 2025 first. Having no first round picks until 2026 (but we might pick up one or two over the next off season or two) will hurt us down the road, but where we are in our window of winning the Cup, it’s what we have to do. Also, I agree with the rest of what you said, with the possible exception of keeping Holl to play on the 3rd pairing and help PK, but wondering if Schenn can help on the PK?
Boy, am I ever going around in circles on this one.

Personally, I think the last move (or set of moves) is to try to pull off another Engvall for Schenn type of deal (I realize we didn't trade Engvall for Schenn, but Engvall out for a 3rd, and then a 3rd for Schenn, essentially works out to be that).

I don't see us big game hunting for Wilson, Chychrun, etc. Essentially add some secondary scoring, preferably with some size, and do it by using excess value on the current roster we don't plan on actually using in the playoffs rather than dipping further into the futures. Winnipeg added Nino Nidoreitter for a 2nd, and that's about the calibre of player I'd be looking for.

One of Gustafson or Holl + maybe Kerfoot out for pick(s), and then those pick(s) to another team for a serviceable middle 6 LW. Maybe pay a slight premium to get a guy like Henrique with some retention.

Agreed. I think the big game hunting ideas at this point are fantasy/excitement from all that's happened up to now. The bolded is what I think happens. Maybe some Marlies moves as well late on deadline day.

I think it really depends on what Dubas/Keefe plan on doing with ROR. If they are looking to keep him centering the 2nd line, then I would think Dubas will look to bring in a very solid 3C.

If they’re planning on having ROR as our 3C, then a 2LW might well be the next move. Konecny or Bertuzzi would be two great options (as long as Bert doesn’t have those visa issues we keep hearing whispers about).

What's next? It's so obvious.

I can't shake the feeling that we're getting Chychrun. 2x 1sts and a prospect not named Knies. I think Dubas has deals lined up to move Kerf and Holl to the west but Arizona is holding out for Knies. The price will have to drop for this to go, we'll see if it happens.

To me, the Leafs didn't want to send Holmberg down and would rather he replace Kerf, and Holl being moved out just makes sense. He's blown big games for us before, has to be one of the guys we send off. Sure we lose an RHD, but I don't think that's a major issue with Lily there and all the veteran LHD that can play on the right side.

I'd be willing to bet good money that Schenn will be a regular.

He might be more impactful than people imagine. We can throw the whole hypothesis that the D was fine and we should stand pat before the deal was made.
