I guess similar to Vancouver, Calgary ownership seems to want to avoid a rebuild.

And you know I get that, but then you need to make an adjustment with your coach. I said this the other day in the Elks thread, coaches need to stop coaching to the way they want the team to play. They need to coach to the strengths of the roster. Coaching a way the team physically can't play is never going to work.
Sutter's been a dinosaur for years. And Calgary would sooner eat shit than do anything Edmonton does. They thought they were close last year and that's why they pushed for it. But ownership of course doesn't want to rebuild because it would lower profits.

Seems like we always have insane come backs against these guys. Be nice to win a normal way.

Or almost become victim of insane comebacks (New Year's Eve 2019).

3 of the last 4 games featured teams leading by at least 3 goals only to see the other team comeback in the third with the game ending in a 1 goal win (excluding empty nets).

NYE 2019 - Oilers jump to a 6-0 with 21 minutes to go in the game. New York makes it 6-5 before KY salts it with an empty netter
October 2021 - Oilers down 4-1 midway through the game. Score 3 goals in 9 minutes to tie it up, go down a goal again then the McDavid magic leading to OT win.
November 2022 - Oilers down 3-0 after 2 periods, then score 3 goals in 6 minutes to tie it before Leon gets the game winning late.

One things for sure, don't shut it off in the third regardless of the score. In the last 5 games the third period featured

Game 1 - 3 goals in the third by Edmonton, (4-1 win)
Game 2 - 4 goals by New York, five goals total (7-5 win)
Game 3 - 3 goals by Edmonton, four goals total (6-5 OTW)
Game 4 - 2 goals by Rangers (4-1 loss)
Game 5 - 4 goals by Edmonton (4-3 win)

I don't even know how much they would actually lose on profits to be honest.

Taking into account all the money they will have tied into Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar.

Then take into account if they become stuck in this mediocre cycle ticket sales will probably go down anyway. Along with merchandise sales. The biggest issue in Alberta as a whole for tickets really has nothing to do with on play ice either. It's the corporate support due to covid where companies have drastically cut customer entertainment.

I really don't think they'd honestly lose all that much, and a Bedard would drive up sales by quite a lot the same way McDavid did for us. They had the perfect opportunity to restart things like they should've done a while ago but they had to push all their chips to the center. Those three contracts are going to age terribly. Huberdeau's already looks terrible and it hasn't even begun.

I also introduce another famous Texas Ranger, Nolan Ryan.

That was one of the funniest sports moment ever. Robin Ventura goes to teach the old man a lesson and gets folded like a lawn chair instead. Awesome!

Picture book?
Kind of a pop-up book….

I'd even argue the flames fanbase would support a rebuild and come to watch an injection of exciting young talent as opposed to the mediocrity they keep backfilling with. Not to mention the 80+ million spent on Pooberdeau could have bridged the gap in the arena cost that caused it to get cancelled

No VD tonight. I think Holloway has been bad and also good, perfect time to go light up the AHL and come back with more confidence

Without VD tonight against the Rangers, I think we get lit up physically. Just keep your heads up and out score these bastards

Holloway has been good, just hasn't been given any leash by our dinosaur coach. VD has been better than any of the other right D's on our team.

Pretty stupid that this had to happen just to activate Yams who has been awful for a calendar year.

Walsh really is a prick though. He's going to end up screwing Calgary over at some point. With a NMC for Huberdeau they are going to end up having to retain on the guy and trade him to a hand picked team for nothing.

Hate NMC to begin with especially when it's a guy that the team has no history with, but then you add Walsh to the mix and it's a death wish.
Although the guy as an agent clearly has his clients backs, his scorched earth approach wouldn’t be something as a player i would want. the venom Walsh spits ends up in the player as well. Cant be productive for then relationship with the team overall.

The best is the contract extension hasn't even kicked in and there is already a shit show. It was always thought that the contract would have some issues at some point, but who had money on it being this soon?

They'll be back up guys.

In the meantime, let me guess the lines.

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Kane - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Foegele - McLeod - Janmark
Kostin - Ryan - Puljujarvi

Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Barrie
Broberg - Bouchard

Skinner

I’m sure JP and Yamamoto will help with that more than Desharnais (yes I know he couldn’t play tonight either way) …oh wait

Head scratcher for me, Vinny has been great and no coincidence their record with him in the lineup. I get the waivers issue but how is JP playing ahead of Vinny with an 11/7 that has worked well. I think the Rangers will thrive tonight, hope I'm wrong but this is a dumb move.

There's been plenty of time for Holland to move on from JP, worst case you waive him and keep Vinny. This team needs a guy like Vinny a lot more than JP right now. Holloway absolutely needs some AHL time so that I agree with.

So glad Yamamoto is healthy ...

Losing Vinny and Holloway for Yamamoto for Cap.. JP on team still...wtf is this shit

Edit didn't know he's still sick... Hopefully Yamamoto can impact the game more than Holloway
