Wanting some semblance of a professionally and fairly run league isn't crying. Its just wanting the league to offer even somewhat balanced playing field. This being the same inane league that allowed as much as a 7 game stagger in GP among teams during the regular season.

Next, whatever happened to the league requiring teams to maintain a set of open dates in arena's for potential playoff games? 2 Night show of Pearl Jam? WTF. Schedule that any other time, but not in May during playoffs.

That said the focal point of the day being what some 9yr old said about the Oilers is testament to the series can't start soon enough. Imagine what will be talked about by Wednesday.
Not saying it was you crying but some of the posts in this thread are over the top to say the least.
You and @bone make fair points for sure but this stuff is out of our control. It’s pro sport and the pros can all deal with it just fine

Ehh, there's tons of Matthews hate around here for one and it does feel like HFOil is very harsh to their opponents, lots of f*** you whoever, suck it whoever, get f***ed, making fun of Matthews (to use that example again) appearance etc.
This is a pretty bad fanbase in terms of hating on opponents.

I don't know what it's like out and about in the city of Edmonton but we can be a pretty nasty group here on HF. Not trying to hate as I've participated in it as well, just saying that this is par for the course with passionate fanbases and how they react to rivals so it's not exclusive to the Canucks fanbase.

There is a massive difference between what is typed on a niche forums frequented by thousands (cue the Arrested Development Toby gif) than what has been filmed and posted for distribution on social media (it's not the only video, and the others were more spontaneous).

I don't ever recall seeing this sort of stuff in public here, and since no videos have surfaced with Flames fans doing stuff like that, I can guess even they haven't.

Trashy fanbase, but the two Finals loss riots was indication that this sort of shit could and would happen

Are you really trying to equate what a McD or Drai deserve in respect compared to Austin Matthews? If you think the players are even remotely on similar levels thats your perogative.

I don't recall either McDrai sitting out multiple games of a playoff series because they had tummy upset. I don't recall either disappearing each and every playoffs or going out in first round always.

This is sorted to cumulative playoff production record in playoffs, PTS/game since 16-17 when McDrai first entered playoffs.

So that in playoffs money time Matthews, Marner and pretenders are not even comparables. They are not even PPG, they are not even in conversation of being playoff impactful. McD and Drai are at 1.61PPG LEGEND production. Nobody else is doing that, nobody else close.

Yeah people disparage Matthews. He isn't a great player, he isn't any legend, and even from standpoint of scoring he has as many goals because the leafs funnel everything to him. Even on his club Nylander is probably the better player.

But in anycase show me film on Edmonton streets where people are chanting f*** Petterson, f*** Quinn Hughes. Show me clips where we've done this in Edmonton. Nah, like the team we cheer for we usually keep the focus on our own team, our own generational stars. There is difference. Calgary fans for instance have always been loathing, self loathing.. Jealous of having one SC in history and Oilers having several. Jealous of having 2nd rate clubs while Oilers have had a group of generational superstars multiple times.

Chanting f*** McDavid on street corners is straight up envy. Oilers fans wouldn't be even moved or bother to do something so inane.

Flames fanbase certainly have. They're exhibit A for team envy having had no generational superstars in the history of that franchise. When your most famous player ever is Lanny McDonald and the team up North have had Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey. Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl then heaping doses of jealousy is just going to be in the water.

This series is really writing itself.... the flashbacks to 8-1 loss in game 1, 2nd last in the standings, Woody gets fired - everything is going to hell...

This is one of those series where McDrai will really make their legacy. They can beat this team, especially without Demko.

I think our experience is a distinct advantage here - I know some of the Canucks made it a round or two in the bubble, but this is just a different thing entirely. Let's beat these losers!

Theyre insanely jealous. Fan bases have hated Edmonton for 40 years and I'll be the first to say the hockey God's GAVE us only what they could dream of.

You're right no one is going to waste time scream f Hughes or something. In Vancouver they genuinely don't have much going for them despite all the "deadmonton" jibes. I've noticed a whole lot of "Edmonton as a city bashing" on twitter since its might hard to stay on topic and criticize the oilers.

Makes me wonder why are they so obsessed with trying to insist they live in a "better" city?

I've noticed Surrey is the place that has the most rabid Canuck fans. The rest of Vancouver just doesn't care. I actually credit them for caring about their team.

But they I do wonder why there so angry intense and this such a big deal to them. I suspect if you're paying 2.5 million dollars to live in some 1200sq ft house in Surrey, send your 9 year old to be part of the Surrey education system all you have going for you is praying the Canucks win.

To me this isn't so much a big deal that someone is saying those things, but it's pretty lame to be encouraging a 9 year old kid to say stuff like this in a public place.

Sounds familiar.

Kid probably learned from this other annoying screaming kid. ;)

Dude, HFOil hates on ALL opposing players especially on rival teams. It's part of being a rival. If McDavid played for the Flames, we'd be saying f*** McDavid at least on HFOil, don't know about the streets of Edmonton. Obviously Matthews isn't on McDavid's level but that's not my point. My point is that all fanbases do this, including the Oilers fanbase.

In terms of what happens on the streets, I can't speak on that because you guys live it I don't but in terms of online hating, we're up there with all of them.

Yeah, as I said to Drive, I'll defer to you guys on that one but I'm just talking about hating on the best player of a rival team in general. It happens with the Oilers fanbase as well, at least online. If it doesn't happen in the streets of Edmonton I'll take your guys word for it. The Canucks fans we see screaming on the streets do come across as scummy, no arugment there.

Yup, and the bolded is an odd argument with a lot of the loudest ones likely being the ones struggling the most with even affording to live there. The appeal of the city really loses its luster at the cost of living required. There are so many there that got in early enough (when homes were affordable) that wouldn't be able to buy that same home today.

I'm starting to think it possible that Boston poisoned a few Leafs.

Accidently of course.

Weren't we one of the least penalized teams all season ? Even with our skill and forecheck ? Oh well, they already looking for excuses
Totally and you can see it in the way the team plays. The nucks are just concerned from what the Oilers did to the best pk in the Western Conference in round one and kinda assume the Kings weren't just crying each time.

Don't say we'd because I wouldn't be.

I completely dispelled your post and that Matthews is not even a generational comparable to McD or Drai. He has HALF the Pts/game in playoffs. He's an also ran. History won't be all that kind to Matthews either.

The topical point wasn't online comments. The discussion emanated from multiple instances where people in Surrey are chanting "f*** McDavid on the streets, and in corroborating videos doing that. Again show me video where anything like this is happening in Edmonton.

In anycase you fail to understand the greatest player(s) in any sport probably deserves some respect. Did opponents of the Chicago Bulls frequently chant "f*** Jordan" seems silly to do that. Especially given that the Jordans and the McD's and Messi's of the sporting world is why more people should watch in that they are better to watch than any other mortal, They transcend their sports and could be argued they represent the highest ideals and aspirations of humanity and testament to what people could become.

Would a Russian chant f*** Neil Armstrong during the moon race? Not comparing endeavor but that greats are universally revered, or tend to be.

I have a 9 year old son and I can't imagine sending him to school with kids like this the same age. The amount of gangs and crime in Vancouver and its suburbs - bacon brothers, independent soilders, United Nations, brothers keepers.

All of them recruit and radicalized young kids like this. Really pathetic stuff.

Worst part of that video isn't the poor kid screaming and swearing. It's the 50 MEN cheering him on and encouraging it.

Vancouver is a wonderful place to take a vacation and visit for a few days. But to actually live there with the down right punitive cost of living? Absolutely not.

I have plenty of professional friends here in Edmonton 3000sqft homes already paid off and 20-30 minute commutes downtown.

Just checked the temp it's 13 in Vancouver and 12 here so there is that "better weather" they got going I guess.

Every fan base has good fans and shit fans. I used to care now all I care about is my team competing hard and winning. Every teams fans also think the NHL is out to get them, I guess it's just a natural thought process. Watching the other games you hear the reff you suck chant every game.

I could honestly care less what any other fans of any other team thinks of the Oilers. It's completely irrelevant. Here's hoping the Oilers play a good first game in Vancouver and really stifle them defensivley.

Yes, all the time lol. It's been happening with Lebron as well for a looong time, Brady also received a lot of hate from opponents. This is what rivalries are all about. It's been happening in sports for forever.

Again, as I said in my previous post, I'm talking about hate directed towards a rival in general not necessarily screaming it out in the streets.

In any event, f*** the Canucks ;)
