As expected, the NHL has their fingers on the scale looking to give the teams they want to win an advantage.

I dont like listening to Simpson. Maybe they can trade up to his ex?

The m
They are overly aggressive for nothing... It's like they are trying to make this bigger than the battle of alberta. It just comes across as desperate.
Calgary is the little brother
Vancouver is the cousin you're forced to hang out withthe

Vancouver is an obnoxious uncle you

So, you're telling me I don't have to put up with Gene anymore...

Oakes isn't great but Gene, uggghh
Scott Oake isn’t fit for figure skating. He always has his little digs about the Oilers. He’s terrible.

At first it was end of season is too condensed then it was we better get some rest before playoffs, and now it’s too much rest.
Some here need to quit complaining.
McD himself said rest is a weapon, I don’t see a problem here.
You;re not thinking this through at all. We don't need all that rest to be facing Vancouver. We need rest when we will be facing a Conference final opponent or SC opponent and starting this series so late means that we're going to be behind in GP, once again, and with us then having less of a break when we have to face the elite clubs.

Think about how this impacts the longhaul, not just this series. The NHL now thinks its OK for the East series to have a two games in advance stagger over the WC teams. What this ultimately likely means is the East playoffs will finish before the west, or its headed that way. That gives an eastern team potential advantage in final.

During the next series, what is the over/under how many times EF talks about 97 possibly coming to play in TO?

I say 14.

What happened to Elliotte? He seemed to be working his way to become like a Bob MacKenzie for HNIC. Just a neutral voice of reason with good insider connections. But he's turned into a weird emotional tabloid quality reporter. That disaster call at the olympics maybe broke his brain. Or maybe how this leafs rebuild has progressed did it. He just can't contain his true self anymore.

Eh, we do that all the time here. We're not chanting it in public but, still, there's a lot of profanity and then some directed at the opponent on a regular basis not just here but any passionate fanbase really.

Now....rioting and burning down cities is another story.
Is it directed at best players in sports? Back in the day I don't recall chanting Bobby Orr sucks, Bobby Orr Sucks because I didn't do it and I appreciate superstar players for what they are, magnificent.

Conversely if theres pretenders like Pettersson that get constantly overrated by media agenda I do jeer that. I had critiqued Mackinnon in the past but that changed when he figured out how to be more composed in playoffs.

Friedman became a brain-broken Flames supporter/Oiler hater around 2014-2015. I think his hate for the Oilers stems from the DOD and the Oilers terrible management collecting 1st overalls; the culmination being the Oilers winning the McDavid lottery, which likely destroyed him as a Toronto born Leafs fan. He was one of the biggest Flames cheerleaders during their 'doing it right era'. The name was derived from his comments on HNIC that the Flames were building the right way by making Johnny Gaudreau their focal piece, and the ongoing constant brown-nosing of Brad Treliving and the Flames management.

I missed the stage where he was any kind of quality. From the start saw him as self aggrandizing. Labeling yourself as "NHL insider" always seems crass to me. Like somebody calling themselves an expert. Like just self promotion and even false at that. We've had posters on this board seemingly more connected.

Heres something to look for in a charlatan thats going to sell you a rustbucket with the odometer doctored. They've watched themselves so much in a mirror they do weird eye inflections and glances whenever they say certain things. Like they've rehearsed everything in front of a mirror. Countless times. On the Oilers side I always thought Woodcroft was like that. But with Friedman its so severe his eyes are rolling around in his head. He actually believes what he has to say is so important and that whatever falls out of his mouth is sacred truth.

Nah, I don’t buy the crying. We could sweep, there could be more delays due to arena bookings. I’ll side with the captain on the rest issue. I sure don’t hear the players complaining, just fans.

To me this isn't so much a big deal that someone is saying those things, but it's pretty lame to be encouraging a 9 year old kid to say stuff like this.

You can pretty much tell I don't have a twitter account and never will. None of this random kind of crap even gets to me and I'm glad of that. That said I miss almost every meme but thats fair trade off.

Thanks anyway.

lol, I'm starting to think I wasn't analyzing Elliotte that well back in the day. Or maybe HNIC's standard was just so low that he just stood out as the only guy even close to seeing reasonable to listen to. A 3/10 in a swamp of 1/10's.. This must have been back when Kypreos was one of the top tier guys on the panel.

Where I agree with Drivesaitl is that this could be an issue if the series goes 7 games deep as we'd already be guaranteed to be the last game of Round 2. Since the East starting early was just to get a weekend game on the calendar, the same could happen again if Florida makes quick work of Boston and New York/Carolina get decided in 6 or less.

All that said, I'd be pretty confident that the matchups this year likely push everyone to at least 6 games.

This must be the first time in ages where all the number 1 and number 2 seeds (except 1) managed to win the first round, and the sole number 3 seed was a team that won the cup two years ago and still had 107 points.

Also 8 of the top 9 records overall in the league advanced. The only that didn't was the 4th highest at the expense of the 9th highest and Edmonton is the team with the least points left in the playoffs this year.

Really there wasn't any upsets in Round 1 for the first time in what feels like forever.

Wanting some semblance of a professionally and fairly run league isn't crying. Its just wanting the league to offer even somewhat balanced playing field. This being the same inane league that allowed as much as a 7 game stagger in GP among teams during the regular season.

Next, whatever happened to the league requiring teams to maintain a set of open dates in arena's for potential playoff games? 2 Night show of Pearl Jam? WTF. Schedule that any other time, but not in May during playoffs.

That said the focal point of the day being what some 9yr old said about the Oilers is testament to the series can't start soon enough. Imagine what will be talked about by Wednesday.

Ehh, there's tons of Matthews hate around here for one and it does feel like HFOil is very harsh to their opponents, lots of f*** you whoever, suck it whoever, get f***ed, making fun of Matthews (to use that example again) appearance etc.
This is a pretty bad fanbase in terms of hating on opponents.

I don't know what it's like out and about in the city of Edmonton but we can be a pretty nasty group here on HF. Not trying to hate as I've participated in it as well, just saying that this is par for the course with passionate fanbases and how they react to rivals so it's not exclusive to the Canucks fanbase.
