Knights don't rely on 1 or 2 players; Lightning don't rely on 1 or 2 players; Bruins don't rely on 1 or 2 players; Leafs have never at any point had two major offensive players out/playing like trash at the same time; Makar played all but 5 of the Avalanche's games in the year they won the cup (and surprise surprise, they didn't win when he was hurt last year).

I could go on. lol
Thats exactly my point. The good organizations in this league dont rely on one or two players lol.

Lol Bruins lost their two best players to retirement and everyone wrote them off. hows that going.

Golden Knights just won the stanley cup with arguable no stars just a really good team. Eichel missing lots of time. Good year after year.

Leafs have stayed afloat without Matthews on many occasions.

Avs won the cup when Makar missed lots of time

Bolts wons 2 cups while losing Kucherov and Stramkos for long stretches.

I mean I could go on lol
Generally I understand your point and agree but:

Makar missed 5 games all season including playoffs they year they won. Last year when out more frequently they were eliminated by an expansion team in its first playoff.

Tampa has the advantage also having a true number 1 dman and true number 1 goalie. Stamkos and Kuch miss regular season, but never playoffs.

I know overall the teams I stated are better. They have many advantages over the Oilers. Im just trying to drill home that good organizations dont rely on one or two players. So hate on Mcdrai all you want. Them carrying this team to success is just not sustainable. I dont think its fair to expect that of them.

Fair enough. But ultimately it just shows the bigger mistakes were locking in on Nurse as a Hedman level dman or never finding a true number 1 goalie. The one thing in common with most of the teams you mention is a number 1 defenseman that actually gets nominated for Norris votes. The one that hasn't won is the other without such a player.

Yep and they don't have guys making $12M on the roster. Which is and always has been my point.

Want to be Vegas? Time to deal McDavid, Drai and start over from the bottom up and hope that nobody we draft commands too big of a salary to ruin the plan.

I tend to agree that ultimately we will have to trade one of the two. Not both. Eichel makes 10m.
Pasta makes 10+, Mckinnon makes 10+. Ovechkin and Kucherov make 9.5. It can be done paying one superstar. We have two plus a middling defenseman making 9

Calvin Pickard's Vezina season begins today.
Yeah I'll call it too
5-1 oil. Calvin almost shutout but Bouchard is nowhere to be found on their lone goal.

Goes on to Plat the next 11 straight, winning 10. Fraud Holland then tries one last power trip and extends him to 4$X4M

Kidding.
Actually I have faith in Picard. Think some people will be surprised

Well Colorado does now as does Toronto and Boston does have someone at $11.25.

Lightning were fortunate to have gotten Hedman and Stamkos locked up at the number they did. I think that helped keep those prices down, and of course the tax situation in Florida certainly helps that a bit as it does in Vegas as well with their $10M Eichel.

Top 3 salaries Edmonton: $30.25M
Top 3 Salaries Toronto: $33.5M (even before Matthews' raise)
Top 3 Salaries Colorado: $30.85M
Top 3 Salaries Boston: $27.75M (top two add up to $20.75M)
Top 3 salaries Tampa: $28.5M
Top 3 salaries in Vegas: $28.35M.

The difference isn't as much you think. The issue is that the third best player in each of these scenarios is better than Edmonton's third best player. Again reinforcing the issue is Nurse being paid as an elite number 1 defensmen instead of an average top pairing dman, not that McDavid gets $12.5M.

Tongue-In-Cheek but it does have the feel like McDavid and Draisaitl run the team in some respects. All they've had is pushover coaches for the most part and this new guy? You think he's going to hold anybody accountable?
Yeah I was a little disappointed they went the soft coach route again. I think they need a yeller.

Those teams with the exception of Toronto also have actual NHL starting goalies.

Rub their little.....
Morris was such a pig. That movie would probably never get made today but having lived those years, it’s exactly what it was like.

Pickard now’s your chance to shine in your often up and down NHL career.

Write the story, man.

Exactly, thus confirming the issue is less McDavid making $12.5M than other issues with the roster makeup.

Also of note, only Tampa and Boston pays more for its goaltending than Edmonton out of this sample group and Boston is only $800K more.
That Campbell contract is just toxic in both it's amount and term. Those are the types of deals that can set teams back for a long time.

The Nurse contract is a problem for sure. No easy fix though.
The Campbell contract adds to the mess.

We're 3-1 in the last 4 if we can do that consistently the team will make the playoff we outplayed the opposition 3 out of those 4 games and in the one we lost we outplayed them until Skinner to a long nap, all teams give up chances in this league there is no flawless defensive system out there,

Goaltending has been the biggest reason for our 10 losses, the team is not losing because of effort. the team has shown they can outplay the opposition majority of the game. Getting rid of Woodcroft would and did not cure the Goaltending nor will it. We built the team from Forwards out that part is fine, we need a capable netminder that makes up for defensive mistakes all teams make
We beat Seattle who has been massively struggling. Beat the Islanders who are also massively struggling and were getting shit on by Seattle until Kane Heroics. You have to start beating playoff teams and this year we are 0-7-1 against teams currently in a playoff spot. Winning against other struggling teams is one thing but if you can't beat the top 16 teams, you aren't making playoffs.

I should have. I’m sorry :(

Listen. I give you a full guarantee that we win tonight!!!

Did you change jobs? You worked for the City of Regina I recall. Congrats on the change!
You bet!!! And thank you. Been with the RCMP for 4 months now. Very different job, but loving it. My boss is a superintendent. I’m under the major crimes Branch. Some of the stuff I have to look at is pretty intense, but I’m loving it so far!
