But the same Detroit club preferred Kostin over Yama, hardly anybody mentions that.
Yeah. It’s true. Btw - you been seeing Kailer in Seattle? You should check the Monday highlights against Tampa Bay. Specifically the pass Yamamoto made to Gourde on the second Kraken goal. That was a pass that would have had Draisaitl tipping his hat. First star on the night too. Maybe the kid learned something. Still short though.

Didn't watch but it is interesting. Would it be possible that Kailor on the Oilers just see's himself as such a bit part that he wasn't that creative here whereas on an expansion club that gives him different expectation that he brings some of what he had in Junior? That he brings some more creativity. This sometimes occurs with players. What occurs too is a sense of urgency when the drafting club gives up on the player and another team didn't even want him. Probably Yama panicked to find quickly that their few suitors and is bringing more game now because he knows he has to.

When I see players playing better on other clubs it kind of irks me. Hello Larsson. heh The Kraken just piss me off so I avoid watching much while hoping for almost any team to beat them. Nothing against Eberle though. Good he's found a place where he can be a marquee.

Am I the only one who thinks Brown is the perverbial turd that gets buffed to shine as bright as possible?

"Oh, it's too bad Brown got injured he was really coming on"...

What!?!?

Conner Brown has looked injured the whole time and was obviously more than just a step or two behind. I felt he has played like ass in damn near every game this year.

I don't wish ill to anyone but if he is done for the year this would be a major blessing for the Oilers.

Bang. Yep. This whole thing was hyped. Oh he's coming, anybody thats ever watched hockey can see it they said. lol. He had somewhat more jump. he tries a hard first stride today and gets injured. Flush, won't flush, flush, plunger...Brown go down..

Don’t get why we’d dump Brown, he’s getting his feet after missing a year.

Also this:

Just because a guy isn’t lighting up the scoreboard or shot counter doesn’t mean he’s useless.
He played a wrapping 6 minutes tonight.

He has GOOSE EGGS across the board.

And as someone who uses analytical stats every day at work explain how his analytical stars are good.

Just posting them means nothing. You need to beable to explain them and break them down

He played 6 minutes cause he got hurt.
And I’ll bite, when Brown is on the ice he spends over 60% of the time in the opposing zone and gets over 60% of the chances and shots as well. Which leads the team.

However, to kind of agree with your point he is getting a heavy easy minutes push against bottom players and defence pairings and still cannot score. Not entirely his fault cause neither Holloway or McLeod know what a shot is for but that’s besides the point.

If brown was only making his 700k then his strong possession numbers and lack of production wouldn’t be all that bad. But the fact that next years team is going to hurt for a guy who can’t get anything done offensively….which even if his defensive game is good…he is getting outscored.

Bison King had good analytics as well.

No matter how good a players analytics may look. The starting point is always offence.

One stat I always start with not goals or assists. It is shots on net.

Brown has 13. Why I do I start with shots? Because shots leads to goals and assists.

FYI. You need to also post who Briwn plays with when post his analytics. Not just for him but in general.

The hickey analytical people are using baseball theory when it comes to hickey. Baseball stats are more individual based and hockey is more team based.

Has brown been the driver on the lines he played on or a passanger.

Next game brown becomes a 4mill a year player and that is the problem.

Like most I had no problem with the contract until I realize the bonus was based purely on games played and that number was 10.

I have watched 6 out of the 9 games Nd brown has been a constant step behind, out played and out muscled every games

2-6-1

0 0 0 -5

Now injured.

You send him down after he heals and do not let him play that 10th game until the Oilers are comfortably in a playoff spot and he is producing at an appropriate rate. If someone picks him up, so be it.

It sounds hard, but anything less is extremely poor management. This is a business, not a friendship. The guy has made 5 million dollars in the past two years while contributing nothing. He is not hard done by.

Example of why some posters hate analytics. Brown has done nothing on the score board. Zero and that for me is the most important thing. Those are the key stats. We have a long list of players who had "good" analytics and nothing else.

The Oilers are one of the top analytic teams in the NHL this season in nearly every category outside of shooting percentage and save percentage. Unfortunately while I think those last 2 stats will improve a bit, they might not improve enough; Oilers are dressing a lot of forwards who historically don't finish well, and a pair of goalies who don't make many saves.

Curiously, do the playoffs count towards the 10 games?

I do think a healthy Brown is a valuable middle 6er. Hell even right now, where he clearly isn't 100%, his defensive play has still been strong. I wouldn't be opposed to giving him the same treatment as Kucherov or Stone.

Considering he literally just say I'm feeling way better than I thought I ever would at this point, I have no idea how you even LTIR him.

I also don't know how that even helps him as a player. He needs to play to continue to get back into his game shape, not sit out another season.

Analytics have a time and a place but they need perspective and a good eye test. I still think plus minus is a good stat if you watch the games and understand both the game and the inherent faults of that Stat.

Brown was shit. Visually bad. He wasn't snake bitten or due to break out. He was just bad.

Bouchard has been more bad than good... and imagine him with zero points. Or Nurse.

Brown to my eye has looked like he was nursing an injury the whole time.

You don't have to use 4 or 5 firsts in one deal. And you definitely don't have to do that out of panic right now. You use assets when opportunities arise. Last year Ekholm cost the team the equivalent of 2 very late firsts. In fact Schaefer was a 32nd pick. A couple of years ago that was a very ealry 2nd rounder. At this point last season Ekholm was not an option.

The best option for the Oilers re: Campbell is to be patient and see if he can resurrect his value. Despite his numbers he has played decent to good in 3 of 4 games he has been in this year. It is unlikely that you are getting a better goalie on a cheap deal right now so you either do not gain much cap space or you take a hit in net for what you are saying would be 2-3 first round picks. If Campbell has a decent year his value may still be negative but a lot less that 2-3 first round picks. A team like Chicago is paying Mrazek $3.8M this year. They may well see Jack Campbell at $3.5M as having some value since their plan seems to be just exist for 2-3 years and collect draft picks.

Worst case scenario you buy him out next off season. The cap hit next year would be $1.1M and $2.3M the year after that. Beyond those years a rapidly increasing cap mitigates the buyout penalty. But if you are worried about that second year contact Columbus about a Campbell/Elvis deal. Elvis has a worse contract than Campbell but a better buyout scenario for the Oilers.
This is a fair and good point. Nobody else on here has said anything of value like this.

That said these next two years are your window to win so do as you will. There better be a push for an upgrade

he has lost a step, been out worked and out muscled. About 1/2 this board will lose their shit the moment he hits ten games, the other 1/2 will lost their shit come next off season when it is on out cap and he is not on the team

if we are lucky he's done for the year
I hate wishing for injuries but he stinks and we need the cap space next year
Was thinking the same.

Since mgt has no balls to sit him… that is the best thing that could have happened to the oilers… especially, if we have to flush the season… we need the money for a proper reset.

Sorry to say all that, as ai know, we should never whish injury and i hope he is alright,

But that contract would be a desaster… and i don‘t know what the mgt was thinking when they signed him. That guy was never worth 4mn
