Like 70% of the roster isn’t playing upto their expectations or the salary they are paid. There are so many guys having bad years. Its hard to believe all the players are bad.

Here's how I would run the Oilers: Do some actual f***ing due diligence in hires instead of just hiring brainless yesmen friends of people in the org. I mean hell, why is Bobby Burgers still employed amidst this whole Hockey Canada scandal? A smart org would've distanced themselves from him as soon as all those allegations popped up.

True, but every time the kid gets a little extra responsibility, he sh*ts the bed and does something supremely stupid. Like that dreaded give-away in the first game of the season and today. He's one of the few that didn't look like molasses out there tonight, so coach is giving him some extra playing time... and takes a stupid 4-minute penalty at the most crucial time, for nothing.

F***king five games in we all knew this defense was trash and not one thing has been done. And the seasons slipping away and our best hope is Kane comes back early and the defense miraculously appears? What is the the plan here??? I said it at the start of the season several times since and I'll say it again. Keith even at 39 or however old he is now would at least know how to defend the front of the net. I'd rather watch Keith get walked every 3rd game then watch that pathetic defense stand making half assed attempts at clearing the puck. If Keith drove in from Kelowna today 1 day removed from an epic 7 day Xmas/New Years bender 30 pounds overweight I bet you dollars to donuts he clears that pathetic 3rd goal they got. I can't believe we used that cap room for Campbell instead of a defensemen

What's even worse is that almost the entire prospect pool has flatlined or regressed. Last year there was a lot of prospects having good years so at least there was something to hang our hat on when the team was in its usual early winter hibernation but this season, I can't think of any prospects/young players on the Oilers or in the minors/juniors that are having a really good year outside of, I guess, Schaefer and Kesselring I suppose? Bleh

Rodrigue I think has improved but yeah, you’re right. To be fair to guys like Borgault, Tullio, Lavoie, Savoie etc they are playing with centers like Malone, McKegg etc.

I just don't see a playoff team here, either to qualify nor built to go a long way. Far too much complacency in that lineup and very passive D zone defending, unflattering goaltending in a $5 million bet and a rookie on the other hand, useless unproductive work from the wings, poor defensive work by the two top players (they produce like crazy but you are not going to outscore your horrendous defending and goaltending) and a farm system with very few evident NHL level players to push the current motley crew of losers out of the lineup.

Another $5 million for a clown set to retire until that moron who owns the team swooped in and floated in another old boys' club manager whom the game has long passed by. Congratulations, Katz, on further f***ing up the franchise and wasting nearly a decade of the two best players this sorry, sad sack outfit has managed to fumble upon in spite of its own monumental incompetence.

Real nice play by the bush league assholes in the front office and wherever the pricks on the scouting staff have hidden themselves.

Due to the NHL waiver rules, roster rules and the salary cap you simply cannot at all hold players to account in this day and age. You basically can't sit guys out, you cant send the the minors, you cant do shit.

I think you have to look at it logically, once you get past McD and Drai there isn't a ton of first class talent on the Oilers.

But give the Seattle franchise some credit too. Look at how far they have come without any superstar help.

Okay then followup question... Do the Oilers understand how anything works? Why do they consistently draft disappointments? Why do they fail to address team needs year after year when other teams do it just fine? Was Ken Holland hired based on actual recent merit or because he was buddies with the Hockey Canada Boys Club?

There's no doubt in my mind that if the Oilers had ever been serious about winning a Cup when McDavid was drafted they could've. The West isn't that deep at all. But year after year we experience the same problems that have yet to be resolved.

Simply stated: Whatever the Oilers have been doing in the past 16 years hasn't worked. And unless they clean house they will not win a Cup. Period.
