2) ...rough start... ?
I think you only looking at stats, or have you seen his games? The team infront of him (or Zane) really sucks in defence. This is what coach says about him so far:
‘No rush’ with Wallstedt
The Wild hoped to “overbake” their prized goalie prospect Jesper Wallstedt, who is in his first year with AHL Iowa.
And with
Marc-Andre Fleury and
Filip Gustavsson playing well at the NHL level, there’s definitely no need to rush the 20th pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
But Wallstedt has gone through a few growing pains with Iowa, entering Monday with a 6-7-3 record, 3.11 goals-against average and .899 save percentage. Army said the numbers are a little misleading after one bad game against Rockford when he allowed seven goals, and he’s overall given them a chance to win most games. “He’s played really well,” he said.
But there are still things to work on.
“I think he’s been a little susceptible to a leaky one and he’s very well aware of it,” Army said. “I’m not pointing fingers because both he and (Zane McIntyre) have given us a chance. But he wants to tighten things up. His attention to detail in practice and his conditioning base have improved tremendously since September. His recognition of how important practice is is a lot greater than it was. It’s practice where you develop these details, your fundamentals, the foundation to your game. Maybe some of those leaky ones you want to have back, the practice will have you prepared not to give those up. He completely understands that.”
What Army appreciates is that Wallstedt is coachable, and he’s got all the tools to be special.
“He’s a great kid, very perceptive, very mature for a 20-year-old,” Army said. “He’s learning what it takes to be a pro at this level. We talked a few different times and he’s like, ‘This is good. I need to hear this.’ He’s a really good goalie for us and he’ll be a really good goalie as he moves forward.”
