Post-Game Talk: Oilers play like an expansion team and lose.

The point is having 2 stud dman signed years before you draft two stud forwards......

Well, the Oilers had two top pairing D men until Klefbom’s body gave out, so there is that. Chiarelli pissed away so many picks and prospects so they didn’t have any others and Grandpa Ken is holding onto the minimal picks and prospects he has instead of trading some for even a second pairing f***ing guy.

They are probably better off just trading one of McDrai for a ransom and going from there. If the other walks in free agency, so be it.

Too many board migrations to do that lol
4 things put off of Holland

1) The Broberg draft--there were too many good forwards available at the time--the only way I think we can defend that pick is if he knew Klefbom was that fragile--even then--Broberg would have been available up to 10 picks later--trade down and get more assets and the player you want
2) Trading the pick of Wallstedt for the picks of Bourgault and Munzenberger. Yes, I know I am in the minority on this. I love SKinner but having goaltending depth is a good thing. I know he is off to a rough start but it is his first year in NA.
3) Holland does not know how to trade. Too many GMS are playing 3d chess and Holland is playing chequers
4) The wastage of the cap. Oilers just do not know how to spend their money wisely

600k less expensive & has more games missed to injury = McCabe but Chychrun something something injury prone something something Broberg as good one day.

Yeah well, I unfortunately got her and her family into the oilers so I guess they’ll suffer with all of us too
Her dad is probably like “I told you he’s a bad influence!” ;)

What I heard from a person with some informal association with the team was that Chiarelli and McLellan's relationship had become increasingly frayed during their time working together. There were differences over personnel which don't take a rocket scientist to figure out. And that the deteriorating relationship was worse than what it appeared. Not earth shattering stuff.

Chiarelli punted McLellan as Stage 1 of Operation Job Save; which sadly devolved into Stage 2 Panic Trades which ultimately hollowed out critical team depth.

I don't perceive Woodcroft to be over compensating. I actually think it is his nature to have a positive mindset and is not going to throw anyone under the bus publicly or be hyper critical or negative in a public forum with media. Any coach who does this in a hyper intense one horse town becomes dead man walking. He is weaned on modern process talk and his talking points are to fallback on banality that team breakdowns being bad decisions or getting away from their structure.

It was a huge leap of faith to lockdown a rookie coach tied to a Final Four playoff run after a Lazarus rise from the dead stretch drive to get into the playoff. Harsh reality is there were significant variables that all contributed to the team resetting from its prolonged slump. But there was no way Woodcroft could be bypassed for the HC job. He got it and now is riding the demon of every other Oilers coach that has endured systemic issues we see reoccur reoccur reoccur.

There are significant roster issues for this team. Defense is nowhere near NHL Cup contender level. Support scoring depth is suspect with RW an absolute graveyard and overpayment on ineffective support players. This is largely a GM issue but Woodcroft really hasn't done enough to win games. Tough assignment for a rookie coach...
Sounds like you’re moving towards 50/50 at least… ;)

It's the chicken or the egg at this point, it's dragged on so long. My recollection is the team initially indicated it would like to move Chychrun way way back. Regardless, the player is obviously onboard to be moved with the way in which it is being operated. But the plan under a GM who made his bones as an amateur scout in a solid organization is to stockpile volumes of high picks and build a quality pipeline timed for a new building.

Parayko doesn't have to put players through the boards. Just bring a solid, goal suppression game that can stabilize the wild pony in Nurse. Ideally help Nurse to get back more to the harder, physical game that first defined him as a solid NHL defender.
I’d trade for Parayko. But I’d probably trade Nurse for him instead lol.

Arizona could always flip Bouchard for picks later if they wanted.

I think my friend you have moved to 50/50 with the great Coaches Bump of 2022 (Woodcroft and Bruce There It Goes) just a ghost of a memory which both teams official helmet sponsor this year proudly supported by Centoco | Toilet Seat Manufacturer

Come join me at 80/20 players responsible for on-ice results, success or failure. The systemic issues of which there are many that have crossed over all Oiler coaches surely has your belief shaken now that Coach Woodrow is 'in the shit' with those that have boldly gone before! ;)

Nurse is immovable. I believe his game will be better with a stabilizing true 1D partner but also building up a more veteran, goal suppression capable support d-group around him. Oilers green bananas are too inexperienced to be part of a backbone on a legitimate Cup level contender.

Arizona want picks which they can shape into the pipeline they want to create. Not going to waste time with Bouchard who still has development work to do and price tag that will increase as a RFA.

I think you only looking at stats, or have you seen his games? The team infront of him (or Zane) really sucks in defence. This is what coach says about him so far:

‘No rush’ with Wallstedt

The Wild hoped to “overbake” their prized goalie prospect Jesper Wallstedt, who is in his first year with AHL Iowa.

And with Marc-Andre Fleury and Filip Gustavsson playing well at the NHL level, there’s definitely no need to rush the 20th pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

But Wallstedt has gone through a few growing pains with Iowa, entering Monday with a 6-7-3 record, 3.11 goals-against average and .899 save percentage. Army said the numbers are a little misleading after one bad game against Rockford when he allowed seven goals, and he’s overall given them a chance to win most games. “He’s played really well,” he said.

But there are still things to work on.

“I think he’s been a little susceptible to a leaky one and he’s very well aware of it,” Army said. “I’m not pointing fingers because both he and (Zane McIntyre) have given us a chance. But he wants to tighten things up. His attention to detail in practice and his conditioning base have improved tremendously since September. His recognition of how important practice is is a lot greater than it was. It’s practice where you develop these details, your fundamentals, the foundation to your game. Maybe some of those leaky ones you want to have back, the practice will have you prepared not to give those up. He completely understands that.”

What Army appreciates is that Wallstedt is coachable, and he’s got all the tools to be special.

“He’s a great kid, very perceptive, very mature for a 20-year-old,” Army said. “He’s learning what it takes to be a pro at this level. We talked a few different times and he’s like, ‘This is good. I need to hear this.’ He’s a really good goalie for us and he’ll be a really good goalie as he moves forward.”

What the f*** is up with other fanbases feeling the need to chime in all the time? Wallstedt can go f*** a cactus. Buzz off

Bouchard was a trainwreck tonight. He started the game totally lost and got progressively worse as the game continued

Also Woodcroft said tonight was uncharacteristic for the oilers but they stopped skating with the lead twice in the last three game. It's happened all season and we consistently play soft against weaker teams.

I’ve just stopped caring at this point. Total apathy has set in as I’ve come to the realization that this team will never win f*** all for a very long time.

I mean a bunch of those players pretty much have no value now (Puljujarvi and Yamamoto). Bouchard, Broberg, Holloway you could trade but really you could've gotten a much better haul for all of them if you just moved them straight away.
Yamamoto retained has a value. He may have problems with producing, he has a bad shot. But he forechecks and draw penalties, and can skate some. Drawing penalties makes PPs.
If oilers retains 1 million, he has value. Ok, it sound like it sucks, but acutally , a 2 million yamamoto should have value in a cap world, for a team that want a stronger depth. If oilers get sometjing out of that - its great.

Pulju could be traded with retention as well, its only 1 year.

If oilers get valuenof him, why not trade him?

Only good thing on Bouchard's play this season has been the damage he is doing to the figures of his next contract.

What concerns me are the teams behind us with games in hand
There is just so much wrong with this team that is concerning, starting right from Nicholson, Holland, Woodcroft, Manson, lack of organizational depth, the water dispensers, JP, Yamamoto, Nurse, Bouchard, Broberg, Campbell, the pro scouting department, the shitty concession burgers, the players parking lot valet, Cindy in Accounting (actually Cindy does an acceptable job, my apologies to Cindy), that it’s difficult to have the energy to be concerned about other teams…:)

It's almost impressive how quick this team is able to collapse..
And when you say impressive you’re meaning sad and frustrating, right? 😶

Too many times they do this, it’s a common trait for this group for too many years now. Team will be fortunate to reach a WC spot as they are currently configured. They probably don‘t see a second round if they do make it to the post season.

when you have one of the management boot lickers saying you need to do your f***ing job, then do your actual f***ing job.

That's two in one night. Stauffer also said during the second intermission something to the effect of "Oilers fans want a move for a d-man and that's Ken Holland's job..." then went on about the current defense.
