Paul Coffey is the single biggest reason for this turnaround.

He basically came in, saw a defense core which had a lot more potential than what was happening. Basically told Nurse, Bouchard and Co to have fun, use there skating and shooting abilities to make plays. Bouchards skillset is one of the best amongst defenseman 25 and under. His vision, passing, shooting etc is frightening. Coffey has instilled confidence into these guys.

They are also playing with layers now. Yes this team is back to being a juggernaut.

The only thing holding them back now is Skinners continued inconsistency.
Bouchard is an NHLer from the neck down. He's still a complete liability and belongs in the ECHL.

Lollllllll this take is generationally bad now. But just wait till Bouch hits top 3 in NHL scoring and it’ll be even worse.

Oh wait he just hit top 3 in nhl defenceman scoring.

The Oilers six game winning streak...

1. @caps against Lindgren
2. vsDucks against a team that lost like 5-7 prior games
3. vsVegas against Thompson
4. @Jets against Hellebuyck (credit here)
5. vsHurricanes against AHL level goaltending
6. vsWild against Fleury

Wake me when they actually face against good competition, but more notably, against a good goaler.
Lindgren is pretty good this year, actually.

Didn’t know you could just look at the starting goalies and know everything you need to know about how a win happened.

Damn you should sell this secret to those Analytics companies, they’d pay a pretty dime for this game changing scouting technique.

Didn't you win a cup with dogwater in net?

Wake me up when you post something informative, but more notably, not useless.

No oilers expert but watched a few games. McDavid needs to be a bit more selfish on those 2 on 1s imo. Passing every time makes it too predictable.

It's not about being selfish, it's about the goalies positioning. How far they're out of their crease, how high their glove/blocker is up and how much they're cheating to 1 side. If the goalie is lined up to make a save and a player can find an open lane, there's no reason not to pass.

Lindgren and Thompson are both good players. Hurricanes have AHL goaltending but it doesn't change the fact they're still one of the top teams in the league and the entire team was annihiliated from top to bottom considering Rod's comments. Swap Fleury and Skinner, and Oilers win 8-1. Yeah Ducks win is more whatever, they aren't that good, even then though Oilers blew out the Caps, Ducks, and Hurricanes, and had much better advanced metrics in their close wins against the other teams.

Canes are not a top team this year lol. Theyre right in the middle league wide atm. Theyre doing worse than the Flyers.

They’re not regressing to the mean, so they’re progressing to the mean? They were viewed as a flawed team but few really thought they’d finish around the cellar dwellers.

Something of note on the season for many teams is that there’s a lot of yo-yo-ing, even among the so called contenders. The Oilers could be experiencing a more pronounced version of this so far.

Im happy that the Oilers are winning some games because when they lose in Round 1 it's funnier than if they miss the playoffs. I'm just worried once they lose another game if McDavid and Draisaitl starting whining and pouting again they might tailspin

I hope you're still able to enjoy your holiday season despite the recent turnaround from the oilers

Teams in the West will need around 95 points to make the playoffs.
Usually (like last season), but right now the 2 wild card teams play for only .560 and .538 in the west, maybe it is one of those season that a .550 put you in (91pts)

In 2019 Colorado was .549/90 pts after all.

Damn, if we knew only 1 of the last 6 games counted, we definitely wouldn’t have celebrated.

Also, thanks for your intelligent and extensive breakdown of absolutely nothing.

MAF was vintage MAF last night, Lindgren has been really good this year too at .924.
