Yea, that's when the team was injured and dealing with a new defensive system that got Woody fired.
Pretty dishonest to compare that teams dynamics to the current one.

And you're just moving the goalposts anyway, you were talking about the Flames and Kraken then shifted to the Canucks.

So yea, I see your agenda loud and clear.
Nice try.

I was talking about teams that Edmonton are chasing….Calgary and Seattle being 2 of them.

“agenda”….lol…this is a public hockey discussion board.

That is not how this works son….you don’t get to pick and choose wins to make some kind of argument that your team is really good…just have to be healthy and have the system down first!

The Canucks beat you 3x in regulation. Those are 3 L’s any way you want to whine about it. That‘s it. 3 games with zero points and the team ahead got 6 points.

See how that works? Now you have to beat LA/Calgary 3x just to even out a loss from October/November.
You're really making fights out of nothing. Nowhere did I whine or complain about anything.
I'm still an Oiler fan saying on the forums that they still may not make the playoffs.
And nobody is picking or choosing wins, but you gotta be pretty dense to not see the difference in the way they are playing now compared to the first 10 games. Even a Canuck fan could see it. Son.

The Oilers offence is a juggernaut, clearly. IF Skinner can give them average to above average goaltending, they are making the playoffs and going all the way. The D will be fine. Or they trade for an average to above average starter. The difficult matchup is Vegas, and they might face them in round 1. Gotta be ready.

You get what I'm saying though, right Sun?
It's pretty dumb to compare the current status of the team to the one that started the season?

I will retract and apologize for the “whine” dig….I can assure you fighting is not my thing.

Regardless of why the first 10 games were a disaster…they are still lost points. I agree they are a much different (improved) team but I was simply looking at the numbers.

It’s not that they are not capable (they very well could be) it is just extremely difficult to win back games within the division. The teams I have mentioned earlier are not easy teams to beat and the Oilers now have to beat them outright and can’t afford any OT wins/losses against them.

Then we agree on everything.

Teams in the West will need around 95 points to make the playoffs.

Edmonton sits at 21 pts through 23 games.

There are 59 games left which represents 118 points and the oilers would likely need 74 of those points just to make it in the playoffs…which is a .627 winning percentage.

They literally have to play like this the rest of the season to make up for a bad 6 weeks of hockey.

We're not trying to catch Vancouver though, so what does that have to do with anything? We aren't trying to catch LA either.

The only teams ahead of us that matter are the WC teams. What do you mean you have to beat LA/CGY 3x to even out losses from Oct? Lmfao, LA/CGY don't get additional points from us losing to VAN.

Honestly, we could win every remaining game this season and it wouldn't matter. The team has been playing great lately. Still is not good enough to go into a deep playoff run though.

While Coffey's defensive systems have really helped things, they need a top 4 shutdown D and a reliable goalie in order for them to have much of a chance. That's assuming they actually make the playoffs which is totally possible but at the same time, may not happen.

It means because the Oilers lost 6 points to a division rival, they have to now beat 3 other team within their division to even out those points.

A different way to say they have ZERO room for error.

Current projections have the West playoff cutoff at 92 points.

A record of 34-22-3 would do it for them, or any combination of wins and overtime losses that sees them earn 71 points or more.

Edmonton has been the best second half team in the league the last couple years. It won't be easy by any stretch, but the team is certainly capable of it.

A record of 44-32-4 puts heavy emphasis on winning games in OT. That could leave too many points on the table for teams the Oilers are chasing, depending on who they are playing it would have an impact to WC standings.

The math skepticts are always funny to me, because again, the only thing new about the Oilers pooping themselves for 15-20 games is that is happened from Game 1 this year and not Game 10.

They'll legitimately win like 40 of their last 60 games like they won 43 of their other 60 games after having 3-7 and 4-8 runs last November and December. Like they won 47 of the other 67 when they were 2-11-2 in 15 the year before that. The Oilers can go 60 games at a ~.700 win percentage pretty easily because THEY'VE DONE IT IN BOTH OF THE LAST TWO YEARS. The short memories of people who only remember the spring run and not the winter collapse are why so many had the Oilers as the cup favorite. It took two months for them to a drop single game in regulation, and it was to the 96 million dollar cup-winning roster.

Business as usual in the Alberta capital. Haters gonna have to hope for injuries.
